Surgery Tomorrow: JUNE 29th! EEEEEKKKK
jllybean1982 replied to Mommy2Ps's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You guys are going to be fine! I was terrified the night before my surgery. All of you are going to be fine! I got banded May 13 and already it has changed my lifestyle. I think it is the best decision I ever made for myself. I wish all of you getting banded tomorrow lots of luck and good health! :Angel_anim: -
Heavy drinker considering surgery
jllybean1982 replied to bayareanan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Bay, I totally agree with btrieger! I rarely drink, but the other day, I went out with friends and had a few drinks. Before I knew it, I was picking at the cheese fries on the table. With no alcohol in me, I most likely would not have eaten them. I also had a friend who lost a lot of weight with GB. She enjoys her 4 or 5 Miller Lites a night and has gained a little over half her weight back. Not only can drinking hinder your weight loss, but excessive drinking is just plain bad for your health. Getting this surgery is mainly about getting healthier. -

Very true Ron! The weight loss is definitely a motivator! I'm still trying to get adjusted to being banded, but I know I made the right decision! I know we all did!:scared2:

Today is my 10 year high school reunion. We are eating at Red Robin. It's depressing because it seems like so many social get togethers revolve around food. I know I want to be thinner/healthier, but sometimes it's frustrating because I have to eat so differently. I havent had a fill yet, but I'm still watching what I eat. Sometimes it's hard going out and trying really hard to watch what I'm eating and others around me are ordering appetizers, huge dinners, and dessert. My best friend sometimes makes me feel weird cuz she'll say "well what can you eat then?" like I'm some kind of freak. I don't know, I guess I just needed to vent. I can eat less than half what I could eat without the band. I know after my first fill (July 8), I'll be able to eat even less. A little part of me is nervous about this. I am thrilled to death that I have my band. I know it's going to help me, but is it normal to have the negative feelings? Thanks for listening guys! ~Leeanne~

Thank you Amy! It's nice cuz I still let myself enjoy things I like to eat in much smaller portions and I don't feel as guilty! I feel like I have so much more control over my eating! Thank you for the support! Congrats on your incredible weight loss btw!

I am so frustrated!
jllybean1982 replied to momof4busyboys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mom and Carol...Believe me when I say that the weight will start coming off! I experienced that nightmare plateau when I went from Clear Liquids to full liquids. I got so frustrated because I was doing so good on my "diet", yet nothing was coming off. I plateaued for over two weeks. The weight WILL come off! Betsy is right...your body has been through alot! It needs to heal. Trust me, I didn't want to hear this when I was in my plateau, but hearing other ppl tell me this is what got me through it. I knew what was happening was normal and I wasn't alone. Hang in there guys! The weight will come off! Good luck! -
Thanks for posting this Ron! I struggle with the same issues. I'm scared that my brain won't catch up with the weight loss and I'll still see myself as fat. I too, don't want ppl saying I took the easy way out, cuz it hasn't been easy. We have all made a difficult decision to have weight loss surgery..that in itself is not easy! Thanks again Ron!

Btrieger, I'm a fairly new bandster, so I would be of no help to you! You are always there answering my posts when I need help, so I just wanted to wish you luck! :smile2: It does sound like you band may be a little too tight though...maybe mimi is right and it is just swelling!

Monkeymama, Thank you for posting this! I actually thought of this post when I got home from work cuz I didn't feel like taking another walk (did 30 minutes at lunch). Then I thought of you and walked another 20 minutes! I have walked 154 minutes this week and have one more day of my exercise week left! Thank you so much for the motivation! Good job on your week btw! VERY impressive! :smile2:

Young, excited, nervous and paranoid
jllybean1982 replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Luke! I was scared about the same thing! I kept thinking I was going to wake up in the middle of everything and be thinking "hello..should I really be awake right now?" Before they even put me to sleep, a nurse anesthetist came in and had an IV medication. She said after she gave me the med, I probably wouldn't remember anything after that...she was right! She gave me the med and I woke up in my room! wasn't even sure they did the surgery yet, but it was done! You'll be fine Luke! Hang in there and keep us updated on your journey! -
When I had my nutrition consult, the dietician told me that he never understood why ppl dont come back into the office for help/fills before they gain all of their weight back. I think your doctor would rather see you 20 pounds heavier than 50 pounds heavier. I don't blame you for feeling ashamed because I'd be doing the same thing. That's why these doctors are there...things like what you're going through happen. Don't be ashamed. You'll be back on track! Good luck!

Afraid to post this, but I really need advice

Hi guys! I was nervous about posting this, but I really need help. I was banded on May 13, and so far I'm down 17 pounds. I am walking 45 minutes 5-6 days a week. Until a week ago, I had my food under control, but this week, I have kind of fallen off the wagon and it scares me. I notice that I am hungrier (my first fill is July 8). I am also making poor food choices. I haven't gained any of my weight back YET. I'm not eating as much as I used to be able to eat before I got the band, but more than usual since I have had the band. I keep telling myself that nothing tastes better than thin/healthy, but sometimes it's hard. Has this ever happened to anyone? If it has, how did you get back on track? I hope it's okay that I posted this.:smile2: -
Regina it WILL get better! I had my surgery May 13 and for the first five days post op, it felt like someone was blowing a balloon up in my stomach! I was swollen, gassy, in pain, everthing. I started to feel alot better about a week post op. Just hang in there and like Amy said, make sure you stay hydrated! I hope you feel better soon!

You should be so proud of yourself for losing 70 pounds! It's people like you that keep me motivated when things get frustrating. You have done so well! I'm glad to hear your back on track! -

Thanks for all the help guys! I had a better day today. I kept thinking of how bad I was feeling about myself for falling off the wagon and that if I continued I was going to gain the weight I lost back which seemed to help. I cannot wait to get my fill. I am scared to death, but I think it will help alot. LapNYC...fish is EXACTLY what I had for dinner today! I have learned to love it cuz it fills me up faster and keeps me fuller longer! Sassy, I may have to try your protein shake idea because I have been nauseous in the morning and I'm having trouble eating until noon to oneish. Thank you! Palmtreegirl, we'll get there. All of us will! I get so frustrated when I hear that ppl who have weight loss surgery are taking the "easy way out". I"m still waiting for the easy part of this journey! -
The sad part about your "friend" oz girl is that she is probably jealous of your motivation to lose weight. Getting you down is a way to get you discouraged. I have a "friend" like that too. Sure there are ppl that gain the weight back with this surgery, gastric bypass, and any other diet that's out there. That doesnt mean it's going to happen to you. It is a good idea to not pay attention to the negativity. I'd use it as motivation to do better! I wish all of you lots of luck with your weight loss!

Btrieger you couldn't have been more right when you said "The band will help you with the quantity of food but not quality". I'm am definitely going to try to compromise with myself. I know what foods are okay and what foods arent okay. I just have to get myself back into eating the foods that will keep me fuller longer. Slowmover54 and Cocoa..I am DEFINITELY ready for my first fill. It feels like it's going to take forever to get to July 8! I am beating myself up over the couple bad choices I made this week. It IS very self defeating. I keep trying to tell myself that I can't take those choices back. I have to move on and do better from here on out. Cocoa I think head hunger is my problem right now. I am a snacker (especially at night) and I had it under control until this week. I just have to get myself back in gear. Thanks for your posts guys! You have all done so well with your weight loss! Keep up the good work! :smile2: -
Treadmill VS Elliptical
jllybean1982 replied to bandster_1007's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I was working out at the gym, I loved the elliptical much more than the treadmill. I bought an ellipitical from Sears for $500 and it was not the same. It wobbled everywhere and just didn't feel as good. My sister has one that she paid $2500 for and it IS gym quality and it's awesome! Just be careful which one you choose cuz it makes a big difference!
