I don't think I took the easy way out!
jllybean1982 replied to jllybean1982's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You guys are awesome! Betsy- I never even thought of it that way! While my friends at work are sitting eating their lunch, I go for my second walk of the day (the first one being BEFORE work at 5:15am)! I wish I had that metabolism where I could eat anything and not gain weight, but unfortunately I don't. The band does not get rid of mental hunger, so I still have that to deal with. Plus the frustration of getting things stuck which is not comfortable. LOL Betsy! I too am a nurse and even though I'm normally a quiet person, I do tend to be mouthy at times when it comes to my patients! :smile2: Very true Btrieger! Its funny cuz doctors give orders, but who actually does the work!?!...the nurses!!!! Thanks guys! -
Hi Natalie! Oh my goodness, you broke my heart with your post cuz you sound so much like me! I think that maybe you're not eating enough. You should be eating around 1000 calories per day, especially since your more active. I know exactly what you're saying about being afraid to run into ppl you know from the past or being afraid to go out cuz I'm the exact same way. I've lost 42 pounds, but still have another 40-50 to go to be where I was in high school. I would get so scared to see ppl that hadnt seen me in awhile. I'm starting to get better since I've lost some of the weight. You'll get there too! Don't put your dreams of going back to school off! Try to get out (easier said than done, i know)! Maybe if you start doing more positive things, you'll start to feel better. Keep us posted Natalie! Good luck and take care!

I appreciate that guys! It just irritates me cuz most of my friends see how hard I am working and what I have had to give up having this surgery. Then you have ignorant ppl that come along and crush your self esteem. I keep trying to tell myself that I know how hard I've worked to keep this weight off which means I also know how hard you guys are working! JOHN---OMG! Congratulations on your 143 pounds weight loss! I'm at my computer desk giving you a standing ovation! LOL That is so impressive!!!! You are so right when you say it's the obese ones giving the advice alot of the time! My mom's 300 pound cardiologist is always lecturing my 275 pound mother to lose weight. She does need to lose weight, but it doesn't sound as good coming from someone who cant take their own advice! Thanks for making me feel better guys! Good luck on your weight loss journeys! -

Thanks guys! You're right! It's nice to be able to talk to ppl who are going through what I'm going through! -
Do I need to be unfilled a little?
jllybean1982 replied to jllybean1982's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Bev -I know exactly what you mean about foods going down easier one day then the next! I still can't get bread down, but as long as I eat meat in tiny portions, I do okay. I can't seem to do pork or chicken as they get stuck. I'm kind of terrified about possible getting the band tighter. My NP told me that eating with the band is actually an art and it takes practice to get used to. I'm starting to learn that if I chew my food REALLY good, most of the time I'm okay. Mary- AWESOME job losing 102 pounds! It's ppl like you that keep me motivated! :alien: -
Can you feel your band?
jllybean1982 replied to vega1star's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Brian that is a good point! When I eat, I can feel the band if I don't chew the food well enough....you will definitely know it's there then! You'll get better and better at making sure you chew well enough so this doesnt happen! -
Carbonation!!!!!!!!!!!
jllybean1982 replied to kellyodoran's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL Spoiltmom! Next time you have a dream like that, can you get me a rootbeer!?! My doctor says I can't have pop and honestly, I'm too afraid to try it. haven't had pop since the beginning of May. I don't miss it as much as I thought! -
Frustrated to tears
jllybean1982 replied to kissalvoe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you kissalvoe! I work in healthcare and it always saddens me that healthcare providers are so quick to cancel this or change that, not even thinking about how it affects the patient! It wasnt them on the liquid diet or with the anxiety of worrying about your job! I hope everything ends up working out in the end! -
Can you feel your band?
jllybean1982 replied to vega1star's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vegastar that is such a great question! When I first got banded, I was thinking "how am I not going to feel this thing?" The truth is..I don't feel it at all. The only thing I can feel is the port under my skin when I palpate that area. Good luck on your weight loss journey! -
Just got my date now I'm afraid
jllybean1982 replied to Gerry1958's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Gerry, Believe me when I tell you I was a nervous wreck. The closer to my surgery date, the more nervous I became. I just kept reminding myself that I have tried and failed so many times at losing weight that I needed help. I couldn't handle another failed attempt at losing weight. It took me awhile to get used to the idea of having a foreign object in my body. To be honest..it still freaks me out a little. I am surprised about how I can twist and bend and still not feel the band inside me. It had really helped me with my weight loss, so I would definitely recommend having it done! Good luck to you Gerry! -
Do I need to be unfilled a little?
jllybean1982 replied to jllybean1982's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for your advice everyone! I found if I eat a very small quantity of red meat in very small pieces with no bread, I do okay. I'm thinking that bread is no longer my friend and will stay away from it. Take care everyone! Leeanne -
Old habits.....creeping back in
jllybean1982 replied to ELJB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys! I totally understand the frustration. I was banded May 13 had my first fill July8 and my second fill August 12. It wasn't till my second fill that I started to feel restriction. Everyone is different with how many fills it takes to feel restriction. I am down 37 pounds so far and I think alot of it is from willpower and exercise. The band is only a tool. I knew that getting the surgery, but didn't realize just how true that is. Hang in there everyone!!! -
Hey guys! I was wondering...as you guys are losing your weight, do you find it easier to feel your port? I'm down 33.5 pounds and I notice that my port seems to be a little closer to the surface of my skin. When I lose alot more of my weight, will I be able to see a bump where my port is?

Nice job Dark Angel!!!

I can wear my jeans again!!!
jllybean1982 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! It's a great feeling! Good luck with your surgery today! -
Trust me when I say that this weight loss standstill is totally normal! I went almost three weeks and didn't lose anything a couple of weeks after my surgery. It seemed to happen when I went from a full liquid to a pureed diet. I was so frustrated! I would come to this forum and feel better when I read that it seemed like alot of ppl who had been banded had went through the same thing. The weight loss will come, believe me!

If I would need to get a low profile port in the future, which I 'm thinking I probably will, what's the procedure like?
-
Thanks for the input guys! Christie I'm doing the exact same thing! LOL I'm down 37 pounds and have been getting rid of my bigger clothes! Don't need to get back to that weight ever!!! Keep up the good work guys!
-
I'm glad you guys like them! I love them!!!
-
Hey guys! I tried something new today and it was so good I had to share it! Thomas' makes these new bagel thins. They are only 110 calories for the whole bagel. They have 5 grams of protein. I put thinly sliced ham, lettuce and tomato on it and had it for lunch. It came out to be 170 calories and 14 grams or protein! If you guys are able to tolerate bread, I would definitely try it!
-
Christie...just so you know, you are doing great!!!! I had to tell you that! You have lost more weight than I have! Keep up the good work!
-
thanks jachut. I guess it's going to take some getting used to! LOL It is definitely worth it though. I am definitely not complaining about feeling it due to losing the weight! LOL

What's the deal with Chicken!?
jllybean1982 replied to Byass77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had trouble with chicken myself. I went to cracker barrel yesterday and had their roasted chicken. It was really juicy and went down okay. If it is even slightly on the dry side, it won't go down well at all. -
Thanks for the info guys! It's not visible yet, but it's really easy to find when pushing on my belly. I guess that IS a good thing since the doctor has no trouble finding it. lol I'll have to look into this low profile port thing for the future! I've never heard of that! Thanks again everyone!

I would call your doctor and see if you can get in a little earlier. Sounds like you may need another small fill. Good luck! :cursing:
