Dr. Jefferson Vaughan - My Experience
yacht4u replied to Florida Pete's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I was banded on Sept 30th by Dr. Vaughan..I had complications and also caught pnemonia so had to be held in the hospital until all of the super strong antibiotics to knock out the pnemenia were finished. I was released from the hospital oct 11. Doctor Vaughan has done over 5,000 of these and I am so thankful I had him. My problem was I had so much fat under my muscle layer that there was very little room for the band. He had to go in a 2nd time. Long story was that he was going to make a slight change in the location and if that did not work he was going to remove it. Out of all of his patients he has only had to remove 2 bands. It was looking like I would be a statistic but his original idea about moving it worked out and the next day after the 2nd operation I felt great and knew it was going to work. He also said to me that I would probably be one of the few patients that would never need an adjustment. Although it was a negative experience and extremely uncomfortable, the result has been very positive. The day of surgery I weighed 244. Today 25 days later I weigh 211 and can already feel the difference. I guess my advice would be to make sure you have an experienced surgeon. I know its generally a fairly easy operation, but if there are complications its nice to have a guy who has "seen it all" and could fix it. I am very happy that Dr. Vaughan was my surgeon.. Another thing to make a note of is that if you have Medicare, this procedure will be covered as long as it is performed at a "Medicare Center of Excellence". Jupiter Medical Center qualifies, therefore, the cost to me was nothing.... -

Looking for September 2010 Bandsters
yacht4u replied to CSinTX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All I am new here and scheduled for surgery on 9/30. I am getting some pre op jitters, but I expect this is normal. My surgeon is in Jupiter Florida and has done thousands of these so Im hoping there will be no complications. I worry about hernias after the surgery because my wife had to have her colon removed last year. All went well except they made her start eating to fast and she had a terrible vommiting spell which resulted in a huge hernia at the incision site requiring 2 more operations to repair it....Im sure it wont happen to me but I still have some fear about it. Anybody have this problem? I have a BMI of 36 (about 90lbs overweight) and have terrible sleep apena. I have always eaten healthy foods but the problem is I eat tons of it. I always clear my plate at every meal and others to if they leave food..Ha Ha...Portion control is my problem. Hoping this helps. Been on the CPAP machine for 5 years now. Do any of you have sleep apena and after banding it went away or at least was not so bad? Would love to sleep without a machine. Sorry to ramble here.. How do I set up one of those BMI meters I see attached to some of your messages?
