    Knee Problems

Hi Sombra! I have an issue with only one of my knees also which has made it hard to walk on the treadmill at times. I took my first water aerobics class ever and I loved it!! You still get a great workout but without all the pounding on your joints. Swimming laps is also a great cardio exercise. You may want to think about asking one of the trainers at your gym if they could recommend some strengthening exercises for you as well. Good luck with everything!

    Exercise & Pre-op Diet

Thank you for the info. That was my concern, is I'm only going to be taking in 800 calories so if I'm buring 200 on top of that am I going to keel over and pass out on the treadmill? lol! I think it will be ok though and I really don't want to break this streak I'm on....cause let's face it...if it were easy to work out I wouldn't be in this position! lol! You should definitely try swimming! The first day I was very very sore but it was a great workout and something different.
  6. Hi everyone! I start my pre-op diet on Wednesday. I'm required to use Optifast shakes plus a bar each day for the next two weeks. I've been really good lately about working out and have somewhat of a routine going right now that I really don't want to break. It's not much, just two classes and one day of swimming laps or the eliptical. I was just curious if anyone noticed a loss of energy from their pre-op diet and if they were still able to workout during that time? Should I keep at it or just stop until after surgery?

    Exercise & Pre-op Diet

Thank you for the responses! @NCBandit and Amanda - That's such great news to hear you've both lost so much weight with the pre-op diet! I did hear you can lose up to 20 pounds but wasn't sure if that was true. @Honk - Thanks for the info on the MP3 player! That would be amazing to be able to swim and still listen to my music!! I've loved being back in the pool and swimming has really helped me get back into the the mindset of working out!

    Calling all March Bansters

It's crazy to think 7 months ago I was so sad I had to wait 6 months to get a surgery date. Now that the surgery is two weeks away I'm like "am I ready for this?"!! My surgery date is also March 16th and I'm super excited to start my new life but I'm really nervous too. Just picked up my Optifast shakes and bars for my pre-op diet that I'll be starting on Wednesday!! Yay surgery is right around the corner!

? about process of lap band

Hi Jenny, I had my 6 month diet and exercise program done through my sugeon's office. Each month we met as a group (around 8 people) for a nutrition class. The nutritionist would pick a different topic each month (eating out, reading nutrition lables, importance of physical activity) and we would have an opportunity to ask questions. I was very surprised how much I learned and how quickly the time flew by!! Good luck to you in your journey!

So great to hear you have such a wonderful support system in place!! I had my first support group meeting last night and it was so refreshing to see family members there supporting their loved ones! Have a great workout!

  20. I don't know what got into me this weekend but I seem to have eaten everything in site. I guess I just had a realization that I start my pre-op diet in a week so I just went a little crazy. Oh well, starting fresh tomorrow and trying not to be mad at myself.

LoL! Oh good I'm soooo happy to hear its not too bad!! Do you have the Soup too? I heard from someone else who had her surgery through my surgeon that we will be allowed to have one Optifast soup a day along with the shakes. She said the chicken was awful but the tomato is supposed to be bearable! We shall see; I start mine on the 2nd
  22. I had to do a 6 month nutrition and exercise program for my insurance (Cigna). I lost about 8 pounds during the program. When I started my BMI was at 40.6 and my final weigh in before all my paperwork was submitted my BMI was 39.5. I didn't have any issues with approval and my nutritionist said its always good to lose a little weight to show you are committed. Good luck to you!
  23. Hi Sandy! Good luck with your surgery!! When do you have to start your pre-op diet?

I feel the same way!! You read all the posts about people who've only lost 30 pounds in a year and it can get a little scary!! As my surgery date gets closer I'm definitely starting to get nervous about it all!! Good luck to you!!

I'm right there with ya! My surgery date is March 16th and I have to use Optifast 5x a day for two weeks. I can't even imagine having to do that for FOUR weeks!! But I am looking forward to dropping some weight before surgery
