6 weeks post op and its not going well,, help
daizee replied to pjrugby's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you so much for your post! I was banded in November to the tune of 9000 dollars. I have lost a total of 25 lbs but 10 lbs was pre-op I didn't have a fill until the end of Feb. I felt some restriction right after the fill (probably swelling) but nothing when that went down. second fill late April and here I am again without losing any weight. As before the surgery it's hard to diet without seeing results. I am going in for a fill the end of July and hoping for some restriction. I have had the overeating/not chewing enough pain and I think that would be a good deterent to overeating. Good luck to you. Please don't give up- you've invested too much. I'm rooting for you! -
I totally agree with BandChick! I was banded last Nov and am a slow loser. So glad that I swore my husband to secrecy and everyone isn't watching everything I do or do not eat. I am so glad that I didn't tell anyone but I think it's great if someone feels that they need to. It is a very personal decision.

I was banded Nov 2, 2006. I had little difficulty with the surgery which I had in Mexico because my insurance would not pay even with my other factors (hypertension, sleep apnea) I followed the rules to the minute. I staarted at 235 and am today at 225 - I have been as low as 220 but seem to fluxtuate between the two. I didn't go in for a fill until February - then another in April ( my fill center is hard to get an appointment). The last time the n.p. said I had a very good fill but still very very little restriction. After a while I called the fill center explaining what the NP had said and they checked my records. I have a 10cc band and at present have 31/2 cc in it but for some reason the np thought that was very tight. Am scheduled for another fill 31 July and am hoping that I will finally get the restriction that I need. I am so discouraged. I just cant be in the 1% failure group

I agree with you now here is my problem. I was banded the first of Nov had my first fill in Jan (had lost 10 lbs because of scheduling 2nd fill in Mar and the dr said I had 4cc and should be very restricted. Now I have had that burping up food thing but only with bread type things and once a very dry hamburger w.o anything on it. I have only lost a couple of pounds since and feel like I am really struggling. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need to kick it up a bit. My exercise regimin is mostly walking in water. I'm hoping after I lose more (if I do) I can do more strenous exercise. Everyone I know is losing so much weight and I am just standing still.

Does anyone know of a good tasting protein drink. I am currently using instant breakfast but my Dr has said to use soy milk as regular has too much lactose (sugar) So I am going to try that but I can't take icky tasting shakes. I've tried Curves shakes and I can barely get them down. CalGal once mentioned some she bought online. Any recommendations as Dr also says that I should only eat 1/4 cup per mealso nutrition becomes very important. Help! :phanvan

Did you lose weight before your first fill?
daizee replied to sleepyjean's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am gettin so distressed over this whole thing. I lost a few lbs before the surgery (like 5) I have followed everything exactly and held once I reached 10 lbs minus. I had my first fill the end of Feb which was 4 months out. Still no restriction. I do have difficulty with exercise because both of my knees are bad - however I do walking exercise in the pool 3 x a week. I just keep hovering around the same weight. I put the @#$$%% scale away for a while because I was obsessing. I went down about 7 lbs but put it right back on. I'm not loosing but not gaining either. I am frustrated. I go in for another fill in two weeks. I certainly hope that it helps b ecause I feel just like I did prior to the fill. -
Thanks everyone for your help! I have ordered a variety pack from Bariatric eating and going to give them all a try. I seem to be able to taste that icky protein powder taste no matter what I put in them, but will keep trying. I did try the GNC Pro Complex with 55 g. protein and I couold take it, but as time went on I realized I was skipping my drink because I dreaded the taste. I don't drink coffee because it is so unhealthy. Apparently from this thread I learned that everyone has their own individual taste. so I'll just keep trying Thanks to all for your help.

Sleep Apnea Test??
daizee replied to GoddesPotential's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dear Goddesspotential When I got my Cpap Machine my oxygen was at 30%. I was having brain fog. I had no energy and would fall asleep during phone calls from my children. The Cpap saved my life and my quality of life. The mask isn't the most comfortable but some are better than others. My children just keep saying "Our mom is back." If you ALWAYS use your mask you will get used to it. I am grateful for it - even though I hope at some point I may not have to use it - GOOD LUCK -
My BMI was 33 though I had other things also (hypertension, sleep apen ia,) I was banded 11/2/06 and have only lost about 8 lbs. I just had my first fill so we'll see I too am struggling with exercising because of the cold weather and distance from Gym but am working on my treadmill and rebounder.

Do you get your fills locally? I understand that the Womens service and weight program has a fill suite. The person to contact is Cynthia Rice 239-9355. I haven't gone to her but my daughter who is a nurse has talked to her for me. Good luck

Banded the first of November and am finally ready for a fill. I felt some restriction while Was recovering from the surgery but now I don't have any. It scares me as I loved being able to stop eating and now it takes everything I have to stop after only a little. I think there is a fill center in Pocatello but haven't been able to find it yet. Boise is a little further away. Has anyone gotten a fill in southern Idaho? If so please let me know where and how much they charge - I am a self pay. And had my surgery in Mexico. I enjoy reading your thoughts and problems and your upbeat attitudes. THANX to all Daizee:)

Please, please report this! My goodness where did this man go to med school? How many infections is he starting in unsuspecting patients? I would immediately find another doctor and report him to anyone who will listen. So glad you haven't had complications!

Poll: How many have acid reflux problems?
daizee replied to NJChick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I too had it pre banding but have not had it since. Question: How do you tqake multiple meds? I too have fibromyalgia etc. I take my blood pressure night med then drink a small glass of water to be sure it is through then take the next and drink less water as it is a small pill. However, I have quit some of my meds beause I am afraid of them sticking. -
I agree with the doctor. In my lifetime all fo the above things have been said about every president including John Kennedy - until he was assassinated. I may not always agree with mr Bush but at least we don't have to hear about his perverted sex acts in the oval office that we all pay for. As far as the war, my son just got back in sept from Bagdad. He informed me that our media has totally distorted the things happening there. I'm not sure this was our only course but after 9-11 the country was behind him 89%. Visit the 9-11 site. It might alter your thinking a b it.

I was banded a week ago and am doing very well - except the last two days I have felt so weak and tired. I am on full liq. now and wondering about suggestions for more protein, maybe that is it.

Considering band, but being pushed for the bypass
daizee replied to Momx03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I watched my daughter go through Gastric Bypass earlier this year. The recovery was hard. She has lost alot of weight in fact now they are wondering if she will be able to stop. She suffers all the time from malnutrition. Half of her hair fell out but is coming back. She went from a size 18 to a size 2 in 6 months and is still falling. She is only thirty five but has tons of baggy skin hanging off her stomach because she lost the weight so fast. She told me she wishes that she had known about the band. Please, please, research before you decide on GBP. -
I was banded last week by Dr. Kuri and his team. T They emailed me all the directions and answered all my questions. They provided transportation from the San Diego airport and back and to our hotel as I stayed an extra day. Everything was upfront, costs etc. The hospital was immaculate and the staff were curteous etc. I am a week out and doing great. energy a little low but no pain. I took only one pain pill after the surgery.

I had the surgery last week with Dr Pedro Kuri and his team. The hospital was spotless and beautiful. I didn't tell anyone because of the scoffers. I talked online to a Physicialn whose insurance would pay for the banding but he chose to go to Kuri because he had done the more bandings than anyone in the U.S. I walked the halls of the hosp and walked the airport to go home 2 days after surgery. I admit I was very fatigued but not in pain. Good luck daizee:clap2:

I was banded 11-2-06 and have had trouble with coughing! Can I suck on a cough drop? Also I have a question about taking pills. We are supposed to take liquid a teaspoonb at a time but wash through pills> Also two glasses of milk a day? is that a teaspoon at a time or wash through?

Support Person Expectations
daizee replied to WannaClimbMtns's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi sunshine2 I was banded Nov 2. My husband who is chronically honest went with me. We explained it as a trip. I am telling no one. Four of my five daughters and two sons are all extremely thin (thank heavens) so you know they just don't have a clue about the pain that goes with overweight. I also have a wonderful mother in law that I wouldn't tell for a million. I'd never hear the end of it. I don't know how I would hide it from a husband but I won't have trouble with the rest. Anyway -= Good luck to you Sunshine. -
Considering band, but being pushed for the bypass
daizee replied to Momx03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daughter, who is a nurse, had gastric bypass and when I was researching the lap band she totally encouraged me saying that if she had had the option she would choose banding. She fights malnutrition all the time and worries that if anything major goes wrong it isn't reversable. I was banded Nov 2, The recovery was remarkable. I have had only one pain pill and though I do feel bruised at the port site it is nothing compared to what I watched my daughter go through. By the way is your nutritionist on of those nerver had a weight problem-don't even give it a thought? Could explain her attitude toward you. Good luck
