Doctor Says its a no-go - Any solutions?
lapbandjen replied to nr-vsg2be's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, Dr Cirangle fixed my hiatel hernia when he revised and replaced my lap-band. Laproscopic Associates in San Francisco. Excellent surgeon, lots of experience with Lap-bands. Jennifer -
Hi Alexandra, I had my band revised the same week you had yours removed. My old band was taken out because of a slip and a new band was put in. I have gained 20 pounds also.....I am living your pain. I have joined weight watchers, but I am having a hard time. Everytime I step on the scale it is a biger number. I have no restriction, I am trying to use this as a lesson. I have an appointment to get a fill, don't give up. My insurance paid for the new band even though they would not pay for the original one? go figure? Just don't give up, we creating more than skinny bodies. We are in the process of tranforming our lives. It is a process and there is bound to be a few lessons along the way. Jennifer

I also love this thread. Here I sit one week after having my band replaced. It seems to me that a lot of bands slip. What have I learned? In three years of having the band I have learned a lot. I am profoundly different than I was three years ago. I have learned that it is the journey that is important not the destination. I can say this because this has been a very complicated and enlightening journey. Having the band allowed me the courage to accomplish many goals in my life that I never thought possible. Yet, I was unsatisfied by my accomplishments. Even the significant weight loss that I had accomplished seemed hollow in terms of what I expected it to be. I found that I had lived my entire adult live in terms of what some future accomplishments or goals would bring me. When these goals were met, I was left with the reality of living each day in the moment and finding acceptance in myself in the moment. I feel that my band slipping was a blessing in disguise. It made me look at things from a new perspective and realize every moment is a blessing. Today is a perfect and beautiful moment. I am the perfect person in this moment. Please enjoy every day in the moment and focus on your daily journey. Love yourselves; we are all brave and worthy. Jennifer

I had my band replaced 6 days ago due to a slip. My insurance paid even though I am close to my goal weight. The replacement surgery was longer but less painfull than my original surgery. I feel a lot better getting it fixed. Good luck with yours, don't give up on getting a replacement band.Jen

Thank You!!!! Thank You!! This is not to much information. I have a slipped band and i have been waiting over a month for surgery. My surgeon's staff does not seen to understand that my repair is not elective surgery. I tell them I AM SICK. I need help. My surgeon would not let them schedule my surgery until I paid 5500.00 upfront even though I have full coverage from Blue Cross. I am not giving my surgeon's name because I am going to let him have the opportunity to make it right. I believe he is a good surgeon. My repair surgery is costing me 9000.00 with insurance coverage. I have had aspiration pnemonia twice. I am a very sick puppy waiting for surgery.....one more month to go...Jennifer

Nighttime aspiration - too tight ?
lapbandjen replied to finallyonmyway's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't ignor reflux at night. I have had aspiration pnemonia twice because of a slipped band. This is a very life threatening condition, resulting in loss of work and health. I have been banded for three years and have slipped my band three months ago. It has been the nightmare that no one will talk about. My surgeon is jerking me around, charging me 5500.00 dollars over and above my insurance, because revisions are harder. I am spending 9000.00 on a lapBand repair with full insurance coverage.....figure that one out. Be aware that your doctor may not support you once things don't work out. I am basically being blackmailed because my surgeon said he won't do the repair unless I pay.......I did not realized that I would be so screwed. jennifer P.S I charged it on a credit card my revision in april 2 2007...new band...I have lost 80 pounds. -
Ok this is the story, I am three years out and I have lost 80lbs.I have had one fill six weeks after surgery and a complete unfill two months ago. My current weight is 155. I have a slipped band and I will require surgery soon. I am a self pay and I have not even paid off my last surgery yet. My husband will probably divorce me because we can’t afford another surgery. My band was completely fool proof until three months ago. I loved it, after four or five ounces of food I felt like I had eaten a thanksgiving dinner. Occasionally, I would overeat, eat to fast or be too hungry, the result was vomiting. People call it purbing, “productive burping.” Perbing is the dirty little secret of having a Lap-band. Perbing is vomiting and ultimately it can cause a prolapsed stomach. After a bout of what I thought was stomach flu, I vomited more than usual. The symptoms were the onset of reflux, stomach pain and more vomiting. The night time reflux became so bad that I aspirated and contracted pneumonia. I have been on anti-biotics, Nexium and Carafate. I now have ulcers and my barium upper GI showed that I am damaging my esophageal sphincter. I had an endoscope under fluoroscope and the bottom line is I have to have surgery and have my band fixed, revised or removed. I have an appointment with my original surgeon on Friday. I am not sure how this will all turn out but I want others to be aware that you can slip your band years later, after no problems and a good weight loss. I you eat until you vomit, you are eating too fast or too much. I have pretty good insurance, but they will not cover the Lap-band. If I have any more complications with my second surgery I will be bankrupt. I never considered these possibilities when I had my initial surgery. Would I have the LAP-BAND surgery knowing what I know now? Yes, absolutely I would have the surgery again. I love the result, losing this much weight has changed my life. I will figure it out, I will figure out how to pay for it, my husband will not divorce me. I will keep you all posted…….Jennifer

I have a slipped band and my insurance (blue Cross of California) will not pay to fix my band. They did not pay to install it. How did you get your insurance to pay? How have you managed to go so long with out correcting the slip? I was told today to borrow money to get it fixed!! I am really disappointed, sad, pissed off and broke from my previous self pay surgery. Any help would be appreciated, Jen

:help: :help: This is my first posing on this site and unfortunately, it is in the complications section. I was banded three years ago. I have only had one fill and with very little effort and much patience I have lost 80 lbs. It has been a very slow process, some exercise, some diet changes, some ice-cream. I have lost a couple of pounds a month. Up until a couple of months ago I have had no problems what so ever from my band. After returning from a trip to Germany</ST1:p, I began having very bad reflux. I went to my local doctor and he prescribed Previcid. Nothing worked and even on liquids, it got worse. I could not sleep at night and eventually I aspirated into my lungs and got pneumonia. Since the Doctor who put the band is eight hours away and my local Doctor, who knows little about the band, found me a closer Doctor who would see me and has experience with lap-bands. After an upper GI it was clear that I have a major slip. My stomach is herniated above my band at about half. The doctor unfilled my band and said we will give it a six week rest and see if it helps the band placement. All of my symptoms have stopped and I feel great. Unfortunately, I am still worried that I may have to have surgery again. The Doctor says that if my stomach does not slip back down through the band on its own, he will use an endoscope and see if he can push the stomach back down through the band. Anyone heard of this procedure? Does it work? Anyone know of other ways to fix a slip with out surgery? I am not eroded and I have no pain. Any advise or information would be appreciated, I don’t want to lose my band. ffice:office" /> Top weight 236 Banded weight 156
