  1. Applying moist heat helped me. Fill a sock with rice and tie a knot at the top. Put it in the microwave a few minutes until warm and apply to the site. It seemed to help ease the paint a bit. That port removal site is the worst, felt like shooting pains every time I moved.
  2. I feel your pain! I had Lap Bad revision to RNY surgery November 11 and have only lost 12 pounds. I am very careful about what I eat and try to get my water in. I was a slow loser with the band and even slower with RNY. I try not to dwell on it at least I am not gaining!
  3. I had lap band surgery 3/2/10 and did well with it. Lost about 80 pounds and from that point on was unable to get additional fills because of acid reflux. I had RNY on 11/11/14 and I am really happy with it so far. No problem with the surgery and the recovery, was a bit longer than the lap band, but then I am four years older. I agree with you, I am getting to old and need to lose the remaining weight and keep it off. Having had the lap band, we know most of the diet rules except now we have to watch our sugar intake. If feel that made the RNY surgery a bit easier, I already knew the ropes so to speak. Best of luck with your revision!
  4. After having Lap Band surgery in March 2010, I lost 75 pounds, but started to get horrible acid reflex as the band was tightened. I still need to lose at least 50 pounds so I made the decision, along with my surgeon to revise to a bypass. Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday November 11, and I must admit I am nervous. I had no issues after the lap band surgery other than extreme nausea from the anesthesia. I have never used a PCA and hope that it will control pain, since I am a major baby when it comes to being in pain! Any suggestions or advise is welcome! Thanks, Diane
  5. Most surgeons really advise not to do the sleeve for those of us who suffered from acid reflex with our lap bands. I am one month post-op from band to RNY revision and feeling great. I don't know of any websites that educate, perhaps your surgeon can recommend some.

    Why did I do this?

I think we all feel like that at one time or the other. Last week as I was transitioning to soft foods, I drank some skim milk and got so sick I was in bed all day.I thought I was going to die and wanted to! I sure asked myself what the hell did I do to myself getting this surgery, am I going to be sick all the time etc. But in my sane moments I know I made the right decisions long term, although it might be a bumpy ride overall, due to surgery pain and food intolerance, this too shall pass.

    Help!

As a veteran Lap Bander a new RNY, I can tell you when you have a vomiting event, take it slow when you eat or drink for the next 24-28 hours due to inflammation that vomiting can cause. Some docs tell you to go back to liquids for 24 hours to help with the swelling. Some people find a warm or hot liquid such as tea or hot Water with lemon soothing and other find a cold liquid better to help with swelling. I am 26 days post op and have had one event, I am still learning how much to eat, I am supposed to work up to 1/2 cup of food but can't manage that yet. Good luck.....
  8. Question for the veterans, I am three weeks post op and I am on pureed foods. Friends brought me in some dinner last night and it was refried Beans from a local Mexican place. I ate about 1/4 cup at 6PM and went to bed about 10PM with no issues at all. Woke up this morning and immediately started having stomach cramps, diarrhea and nausea. Not sure if this is dumping since it has been so many hours since my last meal. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated! Diane
  9. I had diarrhea for the first week post op, but it has resolved. You can always cut out the lactose and try adding it back later.
  10. Agreed with the earlier posts about the pain meds. I am super sensitive to them and had dizziness, lightheartedness and headaches with the morphine post op. All narcotics make me sick, so my doctor suggested liquid Tylenol if I needed it but so far, ten days out I have only taken it once.
  11. I totally understand! I had my surgery on November 11 and even though I previously had a lap band, I was nervous about this surgery. I agree, I was sore and tired but not the overwhelming pain I was afraid of. You will do fine, best wishes! Diane
  12. I had my surgery Band to RNY on 11/11 as scheduled. I was in the hospital two nights and have been home with no complications since. It was a bit more painful than the band surgery but that is to be expected, but I am relived that it is over. I feel your concern about not having any restriction, all the Fluid was out of my band and I basically had no restriction from January till surgery in November. Good Luck!
  13. It can be done in one surgery. I had a lap band done lost 85 lbs then get horrible acid reflex that required taking most of the Fluid out of the band. I am revising to RNY on Nov 11 with one surgery to remove the band and do the RNY. I am hoping it is not too painful since it is a longer procedure, wish me luck!
