You know, I don't really have an initial goal. My Doc wants me to loose about 100 lbs but Its not really about the weight for me... I just want to be able to fit into a size Med/Large and be healthy. Im so done with these 3x's and 24/26's. I want to shop in regular stores and pay regular price. I also want to have the energy to play with my son and be really active in his life and weighing in @ almost 300 lbs isn't gonna cut it. So I made the decision to get the band and so far so good. I haven't really encountered any problems with it.
What has been the toughest part about your journey?

Hey Maria,
I was banded at Synchrony in Oak Brook. The liquid diet does suck but I was so scared to eat actually food that I was cool with the liquids for a while. Overall my journey is going ok, it's actually exactly how I thought it would be. The only issue I have been running into is figuring out what foods will make me sick, that's still always a surprise. Do you have your initial goal yet?

Hey Lu... you know, I don't think the board is really active. I tried but nothing. Oh well.
So where did you get banded? I was @ West Lake hospital in Melrose Park (but I live in Chicago). So far its been pretty smooth. I really don't have any complaints (except for the stupid full liquid diet). And today I got the OK to work out...so Im super excited about that. I think Im going try the Zumba class at the Y today.
So how's your journey going?

Hey gellyandjd - I saw your post about being self-pay & worrying that you didn't try hard enough before getting surgery. I was self-pay & I'm 100% happy and at 10 months out I'm down 120 from my high and 105 w/the band. Could I have done it on my own? Not likely. In fact, I'd lost 100 lbs before and I gained about 150 back. It's a lifelong battle and some people need extra help. The LAP-BAND? is that extra help.
I'm 24 - and I see that you're young too. Do you know what the most common thing I hear out of women on these boards? "I wish I would have done it sooner." The unfortunate truth is that while most people can lose the weight "naturally" - most will gain in all back within 5 years. It's like a 94% failure rate in long-term, permanent weight-loss. Go for it. You've done all the research. Assuming you're happy with the band as the form of WLS and you're comfortable with your surgeon - you're golden.
Best of luck to you on your journey and contact me if you ever need anything!
