    Am I eating too much?

Congrats on your band! Talk to your Dr. I have been good about my portions. what I do is use a small plate so my portion looks better on it. I was always told to clean my plate too! the smaller plate looks more appitizing so I feel better about eating so little compared to what I used to.

Is this as good as it gets?

:smile2:First and foremost, congrats on your band!! The band is just a tool to help us achieve our goals. I think you need to talk with a nutricianist and see what your eating, calories, fat grams, protien, and carbs. A simple adjustment in what you are eating and volume control may do the trick. Try eating really slow, smaller portions. 4-5oz of food total (about a half cup) should hold you over almost 4 hrs. have a light snack between meals, like a stick of low fat string cheese. Also eating slower and more often will increase your motabolism. But please talk to your Dr and Nutricianist. I am not a dr but this is how I understand what I have to do! GGood luck with your new freind, the Lap Band! J

    "Burping...."

I have heard that it is common. but since I have been banded on may 25, I have not burped once. I bfeel like I have to, but they just dont come up. Is that bad?
  5. I have not experienced this but people here have recomended Gas-x strips often. Hope you feel better! J

    So hungry

I am with you! Banded may 25th. I am hungry all the time. It is very difficult. I am still on mushies and going for my first fill on monday the 21st. I cant wait. I am starting to feel like i have gained a few pounds back. Most importantly though, we have to eat right(healthy) and heal. The weight loss will come if we follow our Dr's orders. The band is a tool, but its up to us to make it work! Take care of yourself! J
  7. It sounds like you are eating tooo much! My dr wants 2 oz of porotien/ 1-2 oz veg/fruit. about 4oz per meal. thats about a half cup of food total. then I am allowed 3 snacks a day. Granted I am 4 weeks out today, I am trying to follow that closely, it is difficult. I think I am ready for my fill, even though I am still losing weight.

Low Carb or Low Fat...which is better?

The best bet is to keep both low! almost impossible to eliminate both. If you should over do it with one or the other, then take notice and cut back your normal carb/fat intake for a day or two. We still are alive! just remember the band is just one more tool in the bag. Its up to us, to do right by us!

    Qualcare NJ - psych eval??

Unfortunatly, I think in NJ, most phych are going to be out of network. BC/BS and i basicly had to submit the eval as out of network

    Alcohol Consumption

Banded on may 25th. I have had 2 ---half glass's of wine on different occasions. Pre surgery I loved wine but since all I can taste is the alchohol in the wine. Yuck! I actully am a lil disapointed in that, but also a lil happy about it too!

    Is pizza gone forever?

Taste has already started to change. Last night I had a half glass of wine and it tasted terrible. all I could taste was the alchohol. yuck! And In used to be a wino! lol

    Emotional

I am 11 days post op and I am very happy with my decision to be banded. I have been fatigued and cold, but other than that great. My issue is that I keep getting choked up almost to the point of an all out cry! WTH is goin on with that? I am not assamed to cry for good reason but this has happened 5-6 times since surgery over stupid stuff!
  13. Other good liquids is crystal light, diet snapple. just take a walk down the juicve isle of your grocery store. Sugar free jello is a good snack too. Stay away from sugar and carbs. just keep flushing your body with these and water. drink water till its obscene!

    Tired

I will be banded for 2 weeks as of tomorrow and I have had a huge problem with fatigue! I figured it was the liquid diet, etc. I hope this doesnt last much longer since im on mushies now. this is not what I signed on for. I feel like I could fall asleep all the time.

    I have a crush

"every kiss begins with kay" is BS!!! Most start with a couple of drinks. GO FOR IT!

    10 days post op

Had my surgery May 25. I have stuck to my liquid diet but the last two days have been tough. Im hungry, very tired, and I cant control my body temperature. Im always cold to the point I am shivering. Is this normal? I have lost 33 lbs since pre op diet and about 17lbs of that since the surgery. I have done well at losing the weight and I am pretty proud of myself, but I dont feel well right now.
  17. joecs1

    diets

If you are truely hungry, consult your dr early. they may let you start next phase early. But definetly dont until you are cleared by the DR. good luck

    Return To Golf?

You should be able to play atleast 1 round. I went to the rang last night after getting cleared by the Dr. I hit 40 balls no problem with the swing itself. My only issue is with the fatigue. I had to take a few breaks doing it. I hope to play tomorrow but i may even sit out a few holes. We will see. To your benefit, you have 3 weeks to heal before. But honestly, 3 rounds might be over doing it. Watch the heat and stay hydrated!
  19. I am so happy for you! Take some time to heal again. Best wishes on a quick recovery!

    10 days post op

I saw the DR yesterday and she said the chills are common with the weight loss. She started me on mushies today. I had scrambled eggs....mmmm. my weight loss has been very good. I am down to 276lbs. For that I am so happy. Hopefully I get my stregnth back and my body starts to regulate the temp a lil better. although its summer and feeling cool wont be so bad.

    Do you sweat less?

10 days post op and I am freezing! Shivering in fact!
  22. joecs1

    confused one week out

Congrats on your band. As said previously, whats done is done. Having the band installed is not the fast fix we all hoped. unfortunatly, until we heal, learn how to eat, chew, etc, we then have to wait for that perfect fill. the one that gives us the sweat spot. I dont think anyone can say getting to that hadnt had its share of ups and downs. Thats why we are here for eachother. Unfortunatly, you need to make a few sacrifices right now and stay on your liquids till you heal. Its the most important thing you can do right now. I wish you well and soon you will be feeling better.

    First Fill Tomorrow

I was told my pouch will hold 4-5 oz of food. the purpose of eating slow is to give our stomach a chance to tell our brain that the pouch is full. the worst thing we can do is over eat. Again, this is what I was told. I am not there yet so I have no experience. You should check with your Dr to confirm.

    banded 2 days ago

First off, congrats on your band! I am not good taking meds and the taste kills me too! I dont have to crush them up but I do have to break a couple of them up. I take those with a sip of my Protein shake to mask the flavor a little bit. Check with your Dr, maybe the will allow you to use a teaspoon of apple sauce. that might work too! Hope you feel well soon!

    5 Days Post surgery

Im not far behind you, banded may 25th. I am so hungry. I just had two spoonfuls of natural apple sauce (no sugar added). I think if I was going to try mashed potatoes I would add low fat sour cream and loosen them up as much as poss. Congrats on your band. Just take it slow! As we have been told it is more important to heal right now.
