  1. Just basing my observation on your response...no issues, just letting folks know the source. I love Pinterest...lots of great ideas.
  2. To answer your question, yes, it can. Mine did, more than a year following my last fill. Call your doctor, ASAP. You probably don't have a slip, but your anatomy might have changed with WL or you might have developed some scar tissue. My band has been unfilled for over 8 months, still losing

Can a banded person take Celebrex?

It's an NSAID...I would tell your doctor that you have a band (again) AND that NSAIDs are not recommended by your bariatric surgeon, ask for an alternative.
  4. Wow...a bit sensitive, are we. I recognized the photo, that's all. I've gotten a lot of great ideas off Pinterest. We've been eating quinoa for years, love it and it looks nothing like ground turkey :-?
  5. Here's the facts...cous cous is coarse ground semolina, semolina is used to make Pasta...quinoa has slightly more Protein per serving...15% vs 14% for semolina and cous cous. They all are great, but if you want adequate protein, add some cheese, garbanzo Beans or even some grilled chicken....
  6. This is on Pinterest; the cous cous/ground turkey is actually quinoa, can't miss that little curl of the hull...I pinned one exactly like this last spring...great idea and green (no pun intended) too! http://pinterest.com/pin/27021666485204144/
  7. There are as many post op diet progression as there are bariatric surgeons...many have a 14 day progression from liquids to introduction of solids. The OP should be following what her doctor directed.
  8. My nutritionist recommended 60-80 gr protein per day, perhaps adding protein is the answer?

    Chinese Food?

Can't eat Chinese or Thai, unless its homemade, but have heard Panda Express is the best place to find quick, lower fat/calorie options...here's the link. http://www.pandaexpress.com/files/Nutrition.pdf

9 month Bandiversary, down 62.6 lbs

Congrats! Upping your calories by adding protein to your food plan helps to move the scale, too. Don't add a lot, just a lean high protein snack like a ff Greek yogurt can be a metabolism boost. Congrats on your progress!

What did your doc suggest as a goal weight?

Did you check out her profile?

What did your doc suggest as a goal weight?

Congratulations on your success!!!! Don't worry about getting to 140...celebrate where you are!

What did your doc suggest as a goal weight?

Since Lapband statistics show 50% +- EWL over 36 months, that is how I set my realistic goal. I weighed 290. The charts say I should weigh 140, so 150lb EW x 50% = 75 lb or a goal of 215. I'm 5'5" and 32 months out and weigh 202. Still obese, but a much healthier weight than my 48.2 BMI. Unreasonable goals is one of the factors that led to me gaining...my next goal is 170, BMI of 28 and overweight, but an improvement, none the less. At my age, 63, it's ok to have a few extra pounds...I got influenzaA, followed closely by influenzaB and lost 10lb in two weeks in December...only 2 have come back. Goals need to be SMART Specific (2 lb per week for 10 weeks for example) Measurable (scale, measuring tape, clothing fit) Acheivable (within our individual ability to attain) Realistic (based on our own personal strengths and limitations, such as mobility) Time-sensitive (smaller goals within short time frames) I think setting a goal of your ideal BMI would not be acheivable, initially. Set smaller goals, Celebrate and recalibrate as you go along. Best of luck to you!

    incision at port not healing

I agree, time to get another doctor to look at it, preferably a Lapband surgeon who isn't affiliated with your original surgeon. Your incision should have been completely closed no more than a week following your original surgery. It sounds like a mistake was made in the original surgery. Would want a thorough check of the entire system. Good luck to you, hugs...
  15. At six weeks out, you're barely healed and many banded people don't lose anything during this time. The focus should be on developing band friendly eating habits; 1/2 cup food total, protein first, chew each bite 25 times, tiny bites (corn kernel size), 20-30 min to complete your meal; no more, no less and stopping when you get the "soft stop" sign (runny nose, hiccup, sigh, etc) rather than a hard stop (feeling stuck, pb, regurgitation). You might have irritated the stomach around the band, causing swelling. Try going back to full liquids/mushies for a couple of days and take it very slow adding solids in. It is way too soon to give up. Call your band doctor if this doesn't improve within a few more days. If you had a primer fill at surgery, it might be too much for your individual anatomy. Good luck and keep us posted!

Cereal and the Lap Band ?

I think that most cereals are not a good choice. About 2-3 days a week I have 6 oz Dannon light and fit NF vanilla yogurt with a 1/4 cup of kashi go lean. I get "stuck" with just yogurt, the kashi makes it go down easier and it meets my nutritional needs.

Lapband and that time of the month??

Since your band isn't around your uterus, it won't directly affect cramping. However, since hormones are stored in our adipose tissue, when we lose weight, they are released and you might experience irregularity, worsening or improvement of menstrual symptoms.
  18. Does your doctor know you are taking NSAIDs with a band on a regular basis? This is not recommended for us, since NSAIDs are believed to increase the risk of erosion. I took ibuprofen or aleve for years prior to banding and only take it occasionally, in liquid form, when I absolutely need it. I have spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis and with my weight loss, I don't need the medication so much.

    Tightness in chest

This can happen with or without a band, but being too tight can cause food to back up into your esophagus, causing spasms. It feels like you're having cardiac pain. A good home remedy for this (still use any medication you were prescribed) is essential peppermint oil, about 10-15 drops, in hot tea or ice Water. I have this problem throughout my GI tract, and it helps.

    Continued gas/nausea after removal

What was involved in her removal? Is her stomach intact or did they have to do a partial gastrectomy? Did the dr prescribe anti nausea drugs or Prilosec? Is she tolerating liquids and keeping hydrated? If she had a lot of damage from her band, her recovery will be more difficult, but I would be surprised if no medication for her symptoms was given...hope she feels better soon, but if not, call the dr again.

    My Lapband Horror Story

If you're not having symptoms, then you don't need to get it checked.

    No idea what to do!

Call your doctor. Anytime you have symptoms appear suddenly and persist, you need medical attention, doesn't matter if you have a band or not. With a band, this can be a sign of a slip.

    Leave denied by work

Going by her original post, it's appropriate, her later posts clarified the situation a bit...still not a good idea to go toe to toe with ones boss.

    Leave denied by work

I would reschedule for a day that fits with what your principal told you in the fall. You were told this wasn't acceptable months ago. Since your work calendar is pretty much set in stone, it should be easy to know which days are ok to miss and which aren't. I wonder if you have organizational issues, or are in a power struggle with your principal?
  25. Your discharge instructions might have this info...we don't know if you had open or lap surgery, glue, staples, stitches, etc...best to ask your doctors office.
