  1. Lucky duck! I still have mine pre-op guidelines in my email. I hope this helps! Pre-Operative Diet Guidelines Purposes of the Pre-Operative Diet: ? Reduction in body fat: reducing the amount of fat found in the abdomen and the liver can decrease your surgical risks. ? Preserving muscle tissue: increasing Protein intake helps the body burn fat instead of muscle for energy during a low calorie diet. ? Preparing the patient for the post-operative diet: the pre-op diet is similar to the diet you will follow after surgery in that it is low carbohydrate, high protein, and reduced calorie. Following the diet prior to surgery allows your body to adjust to lower intake levels. The pre-operative diet will begin two weeks prior to surgery, unless otherwise specified by your surgeon. Week One: (14 days prior to surgery) ? Drink two *protein shakes per day, and consume one *meal. ? Consume a minimum of 64 ounces of Water per day. ? You may supplement with sugar free Jell-O Gelatin, sugar free popsicles, and chicken, vegetable, or beef soup broth. Week Two: (7 days prior to surgery) ? Drink four *protein shakes per day. ? Consume a minimum of 64 ounces of water per day. ? You may supplement with sugar free Jell-O gelatin, sugar free popsicles, and chicken, vegetable, or beef soup broth. One day prior to surgery: ? Consume only Clear liquids. This may include water, chicken, vegetable, or beef soup broth, sugar free Jell-O gelatin, sugar free popsicles, unsweetened decaffeinated tea, and Powerade Zero. You should not have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery. Recommendations: ? It is acceptable to begin supplementing with a daily Multivitamin prior to surgery. ? Resist the ?last supper syndrome.? Avoid consuming large quantities of food prior to surgery. This will only lead to dependence on higher calorie levels for satisfaction and possibly weight gain. ? If you are currently being treated with medications and/or insulin for diabetes, contact your primary care physician before beginning the pre-operative diet so that he/she can make the necessary adjustments to these medications. Pre-Op Diet: Protein shake Guidelines Per shake: 200 calories or less 15g protein or more

    Here I go!

Good luck on your journey! Reading your post sounds a lot how it went for me! I'm now on day 6 and down 7 lbs and 20 lbs all together since surgery. The soreness gets better everyday and the gas..gas x is going to be your best friend. :thumbup1: Everyday I tell myself, I'll a little better tomorrow, and I'm grateful I got to do this. :thumbup1: No regrets! I pray you have a speedy recover! Suzette
  5. I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one with this problem. I'm 6 days out and at best I get in 15 oz of anything. I know it's not good, trust me. I'm definitely going to try warmer drinks and soups and see if that works! :laugh0: Thanks everyone! Good luck on your journey!

    Period question

I'm with you sister! My period is like clock work. I am 4 day post op, I started my period two days ago (I was about 5 days late). My period has actually been super light when it's normally heavier, so just a heads up! Suzette

    Boo! I'm so sore!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I probably need to take it a little slower. I'm laying in bed with an ice pack on the incision. Everyone day it does get a little better. Thanks again! Suzette
  9. I was sleeved offically at 8 o'clock Thursday morning. Yay! I haven't had may problems just so, so sore. I got some pain medicine, but when does it get better? Thanks for your help in advance.

    Sooo hungry

Fish, fish and fish. I had some talopia, 100 calories, zero carbs. If I wanted something with a cruch I had lightly salted almonds, 80 calories and 2 carbs for 28 pieces. Good luck!

    It is official!

Congrats on your date!! I'm 2 days post-op! It's a little tough bc your are so sore, but it's tolerable. :001_unsure: Good on your journey! Suzette
  12. Pink Betty I understand what you are saying. I'm expecting red carpet treatment, but I people will treat you different. 20/20 did a special on how Obese Americans are treated verses a thinner woman. In one scene they dressed the thinner woman in a "fat suit" and put her on the streets of NY. When she tried getting a taxi, no one stopped, called her names, people bumped into her and knocked her down and no one stopped to help. Everyone pointed, stared and giggled. When she took the fat suit off, everything was the opposite! So sickening! Even in the work place, the thinner women get the promotions and recognized. I've seen it so much! But it just my 2 cents. You guys have a good night. :001_unsure:
  13. I am currently on day 3 of my 2 week liquid diet! Everything so far is going well. I really haven't had any hunger (maybe head hunger) because of the protein shakes. Those bad boys keep me full for hours. At night is when I struggle, so I've been eatting my jello and popsicles like mad. Haha! Good luck to everyone! We can do it!

    Liquid Diets Unite!

I felt the same way you did after the shakes. I switch to high protein slim fast and those are much thicker and satisfying. I hope everyone is doing great! I was sleeved 2 days ago and recovering nicely. Everyday I feel a little better. I haven't had anything to eat since tuesday. Wednesday was all clear liqids and since surgery it has been ice chips and had one sugar free popsicle. The IV has been my breakfast, lunch and dinner. :001_smile: The cool part is I don't feel hunger! You would think after only having clear fluids I'd be starved, but nope! I love my sleeve already!
  15. After four months of hoop jumping, a denial, sweat, and tears, I got my date, September 20th at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tn. I start my pre-op diet on Monday, and I'm a little nervous about it! Anyway wish me luck!!

Yay! I got my date! Yay!

Actually they changed my date, and I had yesterday morning. :001_tt1: everything went great, just really, really sore! Good luck on your journey.

    September sleevers wanted!

Janice Yay!!! I'm so happy for you!! :biggrin0: I won't worry about your blood work. I'm sure you perfect! How's the pre-op diet going? I'm on all clears today, and tomorrow I'm sleeved! Yay! Suzette
  18. I am getting sleeved this Thursday (YAY!) and was curious of the pain vs. having a c-section. Is the recovery about the same or is it tougher. I know everyone is different, but still curious. :thumbup1: Thanks for you replies in advance.
  19. Well thank you everyone for your replies! :crying: I had my c-section in January 08, and by the third day I was fine. Of course I was a little sore, but I don't rememeber it being so bad. On the 4th day, I remember running to the store bc I needed hand mittens for our son, and I started crying in the middle of the store bc "it was the first time my baby wasn't with me in the baby section."(he stayed hm with daddy.) Haha! Hormones for sure! Ok now I'm just babbling! lol Thanks again for all your insight. I'm a lot more at ease!

    Pre-Op Bloodwork

Hey janice! Don't worry about the weight gain. Honestly, I gain 6 lbs during the 3 month prep, and they never said anything to me. Ha! It was nervous eating and "last super" syndrome all 3 month long. Then I got on a new BP medicine and dropped 7lbs bc I had lost of appetite and drank tons of Water bc it gave me crazy headaches! Water seemed to help the aches. As far as the insurance company goes, don't stress too much. If they have a due of Friday, they have to be done by then. My due date was Sept 7th and I heard from them the 6th. I know it'll be a long wait, but try not drive yourself crazy, but I know I did! Lol  Your diet starts Monday! It's really not terrible! I just have to fight head hunger, and sugar free popicles are my best friends! I also always have a bottle of propel or crystal light with me, so when I want something to eat I just drink a bit, and it helps! Good luck to you and keep me posted! Suzette P.s. U can email me anytime! It's easier bc it goes straight to my phone.

    Pre-Op Bloodwork

Hey janice! Blood work went fine! They took 3 tubes of blood. One to check your overall blood levels and such, one to check how fast you clot, and one for red blood cell count. :001_tongue: Oh! I thought I was just getting blood drawn, but the also did an EKG! I told the tech, "I didn't know was going to have to get topless too today!" Haha. So if you haven't had an EKG be prepared to! All in all it took a few hours bc they also got all my preamissions done for the hospital stay. As far is sugery goes, I was set for the 20th, but got a call and it was push to the 16th. At first I was super nervous, but now it's cool bc it's 4 less days I'm on the "wonderful liquid diet!" Haha Five more days I'll be sleeved!! How are you doing??!
  22. I just got the call from my surgeon's office that they are switching my surgery 4 days sooner! I'm excited, but a little nervous! Has anyone had that happen to them? Thanks for your responds in advance.

    I am approved!

Yay! I'm happy for you! I got an email from my insurance lady at 730 in the morning for me to call her, and when I did, she told me I was approved! I am currently on my 2 week pre-op diet and will be sleeved Sept 20th! Good luck to you!

    Aetna weight history

6kiddos, I thought maybe I could shed some light to your situation. I too have Aetna and didn't have weight history for 09, but I did have history for 07 and 08, but still wasn't good enough. Orignally I was denied, but I too sent in a gym record of my weight (I just asked the gym manager/trainer to type me a letter with my starting weight on their letterhead.) from 09, and 2 weeks later I was appoved! I hope this helps and you too get approved. I am sleeved Sept 20th!! Good luck to you! Suzette
