Hypothyroidism all this time???
misszizka replied to Kristy29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a friend who has hyperthyroid, she recently found out. She is about the same size as me. Can't believe she didn't lose weight with it. She was so mad, she told me "finally I have a problem that would make a person lose weight, but for me I just gain!" I felt bad for her. We have tried so hard to lose weight, just to fail once again. That would be bad if the dr never checked your thyroid. I hate getting told "you need to lose weight." Oh, I never thought of that! Idiot drs! -
HELP!! Gained wait on Pre-Op Liquid, WTF?!
misszizka replied to Mommy2Ps's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so sorry to hear you gained. I haven't lost anything this week--I got used to losing about 5 lbs a week--on pre op diet. I don't do shakes, its a full liquid diet, but have used shakes for protein. I have lost 12 lbs for my 2 wk pre op diet, and I go in tomorrow for surgery. I would say just keep up on diet and exercise. I did have regular soft serve ice cream one nite and the next morning I had gained 1 lb. If you are exercising it could be gained muscle mass. I know I haven't been exercising as much as I used to because I am tired on the pre op diet. How many calories are in the shakes? I was told my diet should be 800 to 1000 cals. Good luck. The pre op diet sucks! But in the end we will be rewarded with healther bodies! -

Just wanna talk about the daily stuff
misszizka replied to KS_sxychoc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My day went ok. Been trying to keep my protein up on the pre op diet. My date is June 24th. Excited yet kinda nervous about changes. There was a party at work, all this food in our break room. I had to leave and eat some where else, the temptation was starting to get to me while I was eating my liquid lunch. Everyone at work has been very supportive. At first I wasn't going to tell many people, but between my supervisor and manager always asking me about it, people would find out sooner or later. I just decided to tell people myself. Some people I haven't told, I feel like they wouldn't be as positive about my choice. A lot of people are happy for me and are rooting me on to get thru the pre op diet. Couldn't do it sometimes with out them. I have been having cravings tonite, need to get a protein shake in me soon, don't want to make bad choices. Lately I have been weak and my muscles have been sore, not sure if I am getting enough nutrients, but have been doing better. Good luck everyone:thumbup: -
Any June Bandsters???
misszizka replied to candy rain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am getting band June 24th. Just 1 week left! Have 1 more week of pre op diet, I have been very tired and my muscles ache from the diet. I am afraid I am not drinking enough or getting enough protein. I was always good about getting enough water until I got used to this diet. I haven't been hungry lately. I was so badly craving some sun chips tonite! I'm not going to eat anything though, don't want to start looking for something in the fridge and then make a bad choice. Darn cravings! We had a party at work and it was so hard sitting in the break room during lunch while all this food was around, while I ate my liquid diet! Just 1 more week of this! Hopefully I won't have cravings with the band, hoping I am pretty much full most of the time and not think about food. Good luck everyone! -
Typical day on Preop diet???
misszizka replied to robinbare's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am getting banded next thurs too! I am allowed to eat cream of wheat, yogurt, milk, juice and sf carnation inst bfast for breakfast. Lunch is soup, milk, juice, sf pudding. Dinner is the same. I have snacks of either milk or yogurt in between. After dinner I have a protein shake or carnation inst bfast. I have to be on pre op diet for 2 wks. Thats nice you get to start yours later. I have been doing ok on it, been tired and muscles ache. It gets old, but its better than drinking shakes all day. Good luck! Hopefully you will find out what your diet consists of soon. I have lost about 7 lbs since on pre op diet in 1 wk. You lose weight, but can be exhausted. -
Did you cheat on pre-op liquid diet
misszizka replied to crystalcml's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I did cheat. Not proud of it, but I did have some ice cream and a baked potato. I mashed the heck out of the potato so it was more of a liquid form. The ice cream wasn't sugar free though, but otherwise I have done well. I have lost 5 lbs in a week so far, my cravings and hunger have decreased. I have been on my pre op for 5 days, and I am going to vow to myself no going off track. I need to be as healthy as possible before the surgery and I want to get into good habits now for the post op diet. Good luck everyone! My band is June 24th -
i am on day 2 as well. i can have any full liquids--soup, pudding, ice cream, popsicles, milk, lite juice, etc. stuff with sugar has to be sugar free--i did have some dq vanilla softserve today, but will do my best the rest of the 2 wks since i slipped a little. breakfast i have 1/2 c apple juice, 6 oz yogurt--no fruit or seeds, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 c cream o wheat, sugar free carn. inst. bfast. lunch is 1 c cream soup, put in blender--no chunks, 1/2 c milk, 1/2 c juice, 1/2 c pudding. dinner is same. have 2 snacks of yogurt or 1 c milk. after dinner is carn. inst bfast. Thought maybe i could help and give you options, if u r allowed to follow the diet I was given. hasn't been too bad, was starving 1st day though. I have been using protein shakes instead of carn. bfast. not too fond of fat free milk, but gotta do it. good luck. hope this helps, hang in there!

I work in xray at a hospital. upper gi studies are pretty quick. they will have you drink some barium, have you move on your side drinking it, etc. they will probably have you 'swallow "fizzies," similar to alka seltzer to expand your stomach. at the end sometimes they will have you swallow a pill that they can see on the xrays and how it goes into your stomach, of it gets caught up or not. Overall a fairly simple procedure. Better than a small bowel study, which people can be there for hours. with Upper gi you have to be undressed with just a gown, pants may be ok. hope this helps ya

2 days into the liquid diet!!! Help!!
misszizka replied to tryingtofindme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is my 2nd day on the liquid diet too. I have been doing good except I had some soft serve ice cream, maybe a cup worth, but the whole container of my sugar free ice cream melted, so I made a stop at dq. It has been very hard following the diet, but it has gotten easier than yesterday, I don't feel as hungry. Good luck. My surgery date it 6/24 -
:thumbup:Just try to keep your goals in mind. That's gotta be tough! Try keeping yourself preoccupied, away from food, which will be hard. I gained 8 lbs in between visits. My very first appt was in Nov 08. I chickened out and finally decided what to do. I saw her again in Apr 2010, and she said I gained 8 lbs. I didn't think that was too bad, since I usually gain about 10 per year, but she wants me to lose 10 lbs by June 7th. I've lost about 5 so far, gotta keep on truckin! I just hope I lose it by then. Surgery date is June 24th. Good luck! You can do it!

I had my psych eval last month. Don't worry about it, just be yourself. I think they are just trying to see if you are serious and mentally ready for the surgery. I take wellbutrin for some mild depression. I have terrible self esteem, overly self conscious, have been gaining weight for the last 15 yrs, and finally it has caught up with me mentally. I get tired of judgemental people, which is a reason why I tend to shy away from dating (as much as I would love to date, I seem to feel a lot of men judge me because of my weight). I think all obese people have a tendancy to be depressed because of our self esteem being low and because we have a hard time with dealing with society's view of us. I had to take a personality type test (MMPI) at the end, some of the questions were kinda crazy! Good luck with everything! I am scheduled for surgery june 24th. Hopefully you day comes soon!

I am scheduled for June 24th. Very nervous! Hafta pay $7,000, kinda wished they would have went over the out of pocket expenses before it was scheduled. Worried about how to pay. My father will help, but the rest will hafta go on a credit card. Have a lot of pre op tests coming up. Very psyched about this! Out of all of my worries though, I know everything will go well
