Hi - I just went through sorta the same thing. But it wasn't from a fill. In July, I noticed a little bubble bump on my port incision. I called my surgeon and went in. He was at a loss and we decided to watch the area to see if there were any changes. A month went by and it got worse. It actually felt like something was stabbing me. So, I went back and he lanced it open and sure enough there was a pus pocket or abcsess there. Again, we were both at a loss because I haven't had a fill in over 2 years. He sent me for a stat endoscopy - to rule out erosion. The area drained for 2 months and I was on antibiotics for 6 of those weeks. The area was not getting any better so I had to have emergency surgery on the 30th to remove my old port, move the tubing over and have a new port placed. The new port hurts like heck but there is no infection anymore. I hope this helps you a little.

If your incision site is red and hurts that is a sign your band has eroded. The infection travels from the band threw the tubing and into the port. I only say this because I have had a port infection that is being treated with antibiotics for 2 months. I had and EGD done in August and my band has not eroded. If the band had eroded it will have to be removed. Some surgeons revise, some surgeons wait for several months and try to reband. It is not suggested to reband. I hope in your case it is not an erosion. Good luck!

I'm New, looking for info about banding in PA
bethmal replied to TDeRo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't think the process was long. My initial appointment was the first week of January in 2006. My surgery was the beginning of April. It would have been sooner but there was an insurance issue - Barix took care of it all. I didn't have to have any extra testing - just the pre-op stuff at Barix. Good Luck! -

I went to Barix Clinic in Langhorne and had a wonderful experience. The staff - doctors, nurses, aids, everyone is just top notch. My doctor is no longer there. He is now at Lancaster General. He is a FANTASTIC doctor. I go to Lancaster now for my follow ups, still at two years out. PM me any questions... if you have any. And BTW I am a teacher too! -

I drink a lot of milk too - up to 32 oz. a day. My nutritionist does not have a problem with it and it helps me get my calories in for the day. I rarely get in 1000 calories. I drink organic milk and the price here in Maryland is about $4.00 for a half of a gallon.

Any Delaware or Chester County Bandsters?
bethmal replied to jetdeck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have no idea if he takes patients banded in Mexico. I suppose so. Yes, he does use flouro - I have had it several times. I will PM you the office number and if you call Karen (his awesome receptionist) she will probably be able to help you out... more than me anyway. Good luck! -

There is an excellent doctor in the Lancaster area also. His name is Alan Brader at Lancaster General. I am not sure how far of a drive that would be for you. I live in Maryland and it only takes me about an hour or so to get out there. Just wanted to throw that out there too. -

I went there. Best care I have ever received in a hospital! Love, love, love my doctor... although he isn't there anymore. Best doctors and nursing staff around. Good luck! -
Are there any symptoms with pouch dilation?
bethmal replied to midnightblue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had esophagus dilation. I didn't know it until my doctor looked at my band using flouro. I had no signs or symptoms. If I were you *I* would ask my doctor to check using flouro. My doctor said I was eating to much and it was backing up into my esophagus. I went on liquids for a few days and everything went back to normal. Good luck! -

I teach third grade. There is so much pressure and stress put on state testing it makes me wonder how I ever turned out the way I did. I try not to stress my students out about testing but if there isn't AYP the big wigs start breathing down your neck! So, the biggest obstacle is not placing your stress on 8 & 9 years olds - they can only do the best they can do!

What's the worst thing someone said to you?
bethmal replied to annieM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was walking my dog (before I had surgery) and someone had the nerve to yell out of his car window, "FAT A$$." I cried all the way home. Now, I get whistles and cat calls - LOL!
