  1. I am also currently going through this process. I had my sleeve about the same time as you, Oct 2014. I was a band to sleeve revision at that time. (Had band 5 years). I was having reflux at that time and my dr said sleeve may or may not be a problem with reflux. I have not been able to get off of the nexium and my endoscope last month showed Barrett's esophagus in 4 spots and I actually refluxed for the camera. After seeing that damage, I felt better about the bypass. My dr explained the process and said it is virtually physically impossible to have reflux with the bypass. I have come to peace with this as I really need to get off the nexium and the attacks in the past 6-8 months have still been very severe. I have my appointment tomorrow to finalize everything for insurance. Good luck, and if you need someone to discuss your situation and fears too, let me know!

    GERD

You are taking the correct route. I went from Band to Sleeve 2 years ago and the GERD got worse. My doctor told me that he no longer converts Band to sleeve. Bypass is the way to go! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Gastric sleeve and heartburn

I am a band to vsg revision 2 years ago. The acid remains to the point I take 40mg nexium daily and still have break through. Dr has told me recently that I may have to revise to rny to fix the problem. He also told me that he no longer revises band to sleeve only band to bypass because of the acid issue. Good luck. Approved for conversion to bypass!

My doctor told me today that I am going to need a revision to rny from sleeve due to severe reflux. I have been on Nexium and Zantac for 2 years and he says it is not for long term use. I was already revised from band to sleeve 2 years ago, also due to reflux. I am scared to death. He gave me a month to think about it. Please let me know if this revision works for reflux. Also, I became lactose intolerant when I had my sleeve surgery, so I also wonder if maybe rny would reverse that also? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I am here yet again checking all of this out. I am feeling like a complete failure and after going to the doctor today, I am in super freak out mode. A little history, I got a lap band in June 2009. Lost weight and things were good until the said started. Was revised to sleeve on October 2014. Lost 20 more lbs but was never able to give up the Nexuim or Prilosec. Now 2 years later the acid has gotten really bad again. I take 2 Nexuim daily and up to 2 Zantac to get me through. I had an upper hi last Month and went for results today. Doctor wants to revise to bypass! I am scared of this. Is it hard to eat with a bypass? I dealt with the band and the getting stuck and never wAnt to deal with that again! I feel like a complete failure. Most people don't get one bariatric surgery. I am looking at this being my 3rd. Will the bypass help with the acid? Dr told me I can't stay on Nexuim long term because of osteoporosis.
  7. I had the same regurgitation issues you mentioned. I got my band in 2010 and was revised to sleeve this past October. The sleeve has been a breeze. I really enjoy not having that port. As for insurance, my revision was covered due to the acid reflux problems without meeting BMI requirements. Each insurance is different though. I do not regret my decision at all. I liked my band, but had extreme anxiety about eating around others for fear of getting stuck. The sleeve has opened a new world.

Band to sleeve in one procedure

I was banded in 2010. Was revised to sleeve in one operation in October. The surgery took at bit longer than a straight sleeve because of scarring, but the recovery wasn't bad at all! I love the sleeve. I feel like a normal person again!
  9. I had a revision on Oct 20 after having pretty well the same issues as you are having. Let me just say, I love my sleeve. It is like being "normal" again. When you are full, you just feel naturally full. I have stopped mid bite because I just don't feel the need to swallow that bite. No worries about it. No mourning your meal when the band didn't allow. I just feel satisfied and done. I also no longer worry about that belch that may end badly. The valves at the entrance and exit of the sleeved area are your original stomach valves so everything works as nature intended. I hope this helps! I had my band for 5 years.
  10. I had my revision in October and I have to agree wholeheartedly with all of your statements! I love my sleeve too!
  11. Not a one! I love my sleeve. I was sleeved in October and have enjoyed gaing my quality of life back. The sleeve feels so natural unlike the band ever did.
  12. I had a bit of pain, but nothing that wasn't tolerable. I remember the days in the bathroom. Stuck is the worst feeling! I am feeling so free with my sleeve. I know I said this before, but it just feels so natural. No fear of going out with people and rushing to the bathroom hoping and praying that someone wasn't in there already. My husband always referred to that as the deer in the headlights look. Good luck with your revision. I was very fortunate as insurance covered my revision. They had a medical policy specifically for revisions to get people to get rid of the band.
  13. Welcome! Let me tell you, the revision was the best thing that I ever did! I lived with my band for 4.5 years and initially lost all of my excess weight, the a tragic life event came and I was never able to get the fill right after that. I had my revision in October and am down 20lbs. (I was 180 at surgery). The sleeve is so comfortable. You don't notice it like I was always aware of the band and port. It works as the stomach intended, just get full fast. The full feeling is great, no stuck with the stomach growling underneath. I feel like my quality of life has been restored. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
  14. I talked with my NUT today and she ordered a bag for herself on Amazon before I walked out the door! She said it would be better absorbed in the form that the protein is in. I love my Genepro!
  15. I guess for me it was a no brainier. I lost my brother when he was 30 to sleep apnea, something that this surgery could have completely prevented. Good luck with your decision, but also remember that you will be adding years to your life and life to those years!
  16. Great news! I am loving my sleeve. So much more "comfortable" than the band ever was. Congratulations!
  17. I was sleeved the same day 10/20. I am down 12lbs and stalled all this week. I am also not having any problems getting anything other than protein shakes (yuck) down. I have wrote it off as being a revision from band to sleeve because I know how to chew, but it does worry me.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS- How Ya Doin'?

I was sleeved (revised from band) on Oct 20. Down 17lbs but have stalled this week. I was also low bmi to start.
  19. I had my surgery on Oct. 20. I was a revision from band to sleeve. I still feel horrible. The larger incision on my right side still is pulling very deep. It hurts to get up and down. No thoughts of any exercise here. I am, however having no trouble with fluids or protein shakes. Anyone else still feel pitiful?
  20. My revision was approved really quickly (2 days). The main documentation they wanted was that my insurance originally covered the band and that I didn't pay out of pocket. It was then approved instantly!

    Revision people help!

I think the 2 weeks should be fine. I am out 2 weeks Monday and I did get exhausted cleaning the house today, but I have teenagers and they don't pick up anything on their own. Other than that, I feel great!

    Revision people help!

@Dustin. Lucky for you to be going through the food stages with your wife! That has to make things easier because I can't stand the sight or smell of food enough to cook for everyone else. Good luck to both of you.

    Revision people help!

@peachie. My BMI at surgery was 33. I had slight issues with the band, but nothing life threatening. Just couldn't get that fill right. Finally I told my doctor I was about done with this thing. He said we can revise, wasn't the least bit concerned about insurance. It was only about a month from that conversation to surgery. My insurance approved within days. I would keep fighting.

    Revision people help!

I recently had a revision from band to sleeve on October 20. While I am not far out, here are my early observations. Not having the port site stabbing at my side makes me feel normal again. That hard spot on my side just was a constant reminder of the device and I hated it. I am just starting purée and really feel full. Not that pain feeling with the band where your stomach is growling underneath. Just full like nature intended. The recovery was a bit more than with the band, but I am almost 100% two weeks out. I am really happy with my early observations of the sleeve. To me it is much more comfortable than the band ever was in the 4 years I lived with it.

post op time off from work

Mine was 3 days later. I basically told the doctor that I would be doing less at work than at home. He said that was fine, just had 10lb lifting limit. I am sure missing the grandbaby though he is already 14lbs and don't want to be tempted!
