  1. I have lost and gained the same 3 lbs since my 1st fill in the end of September. Of course I'm due for TOM in 4 days so I can already feel the bloating. Is it ridiculous that I'm worried I'll "get in trouble" for not losing when I go in tomorrow? The thought of being scolded my the dr. makes me cringe. I've quit doctors for that kind of thing, and I really like this group! I haven't been 100%. I've been eating more than I should. Not necessarily "bad" foods, just too much. We do have pizza once or twice a month, and I make sure to order it with half veggies so I can have 1 slice that's loaded with veggies. But 3 meals a day at 1 cup each isn't holding me, and even a lowfat cheesestick or fat free greek yogurt between meals doesn't make me get through. I am worried that my split sleep schedule is making the recommended meal times unrealistic for me. I'm up at 4am and at work by 5am. Have Breakfast when I get to work at 5am. So by 8 or 9 am I am really hungry. I have a cheese stick. Then an hour or 2 later I'm really hungry- loudly gurgling and feeling sick to my stomach from the hunger again. If I drink a big glass of Water when I'm feeling like that it actually makes the feeling worse, after 5 minutes I'm twice as hungry as I was before. So lunch at about 10am. Home at 1pm, snack of another cheese stick or 1/2 cup of chili or something like that. Nap until 5pm. dinner with the family around 6 or 630. Then by 9 I'm super hungry again. I'm about cheese sticked out. I'm up until midnight so I've got to have a little something or I toss and turn and don't get sleep because of the gurgling stomach/nausea from hunger. I'm getting 1000 - 1200 cal/day. Drinking my water. Just hungry. And if I let myself get too hungry it's so easy to eat too fast or not chew enough and then ouch. so I've been going down and up and down and up by the same 3 stinking pounds. I've got to re-vamp the way I'm doing something, just not sure how to exactly. Anyone else have a ridiculous schedule that can share advice with me?

    Left shoulder pain

I get horrible left shoulder pain at times. But it only happens when I've eaten too much. Getting better at feeling the signs before that happens as it's been a few weeks... but I did as the surgeon about it at my 1st fill. He told me that where the band is placed is right above your diaphragm, and if the diaphragm is irritated you get that left shoulder pain. So when I eat too much and my pouch is overfilled and putting strain on the band, it's pushing the band into the diaphragm. Maybe your band is just placed so that when you're in those positions it's touching and bothering the diaphragm? It's worth talking about. It's pain on the same level as a slipped disc, and I'm so sorry you're feeling it so often. ps- love the tink pic, but the piggy in boots was my favorite!
  3. I think I need a new bathroom scale... mine hasn't budged but the dr's says I've lost 8 lbs since my last fill. Needless to say I'm going with the doc's on this! any suggestions for models? Also, I'm difficult to fill. They almost had to do it under xray. Poked around for 10 minutes before getting it in and it hurts like hell when he has to push around so hard to find it. I was so upset for a bit but now relieved they found it.
  4. Actually if I eat too few calories I do not lose weight. 1000-1200 has been a successful range for me in the past. I'm cooking out of a couple of WLS cookbooks only, and if I don't cook it then I'm having Protein shakes and lowfat cheese sticks or ff greek yogurt. Water or crystal light. Slowly getting back into working out after a bout with 3 slipped discs so I've been pretty stationary for a few weeks which I know hasn't helped weight loss. Protein shake for breakfast Cheesestick 200-250 cal lunch cheesestick or yogurt 250 cal dinner cheesestick or yogurt protein shake That's my day. Grr. I know I will get there, but it's frustrating. Fill in a couple of hours and I hope it helps.

    Best thing for scars???

LOL. I'm going to start telling people that. Not that I show off my wiggly stretch marked stomach to anyone so not sure when it will come up, but at some point someone will see it and ask and then I can say knife fight and look menacing.
  6. eggs are a no-no for me too. Pasta, rice, eggs, refried beans, and deli meat are things that always give me trouble. I have no issue with salads, steak, or any tough foods as long as I chew. But eggs... bad. Which stinks, I love eggs and thought they'd be ok because of the texture.

    Night Eating...Help!

ME TOO. I'm TERRIBLE at night. Like you, I'm PERFECT until about 9pm, then I can't stand it. It doesn't help having dh wanting sandwiches or pizza or snacks that late either. But I find myself rooting around looking for anything to eat. I can go from eating lunch at 11am until 6:30 for dinner and be fine, but once 9pm hits it's like I'm a starved beast. It's been the hardest for me.

    Need Support

I had my surgery in August and am also still waiting for that magic place. I'm hungry all day, stomach growling and hungry an hour after a meal. I lost 12 pounds in the 10 days after surgery, and since then I've lost 2. So I feel for your frustration. I know I need to eat slower, really focus on waiting between bites. It's hard to not be in a rush for most meals. Have you talked to your doctor about this? It would seem that another fill may be necessary! I'm getting my 2nd fill in 2 weeks and I hope it helps.

    birth control

nope. in fact, my bc pill was one of my medications that the doctor and hospital told me I could take that morning with a small sip of water.

    Thinking I need an adjustment

1 piece of pizza once in a while is not a deal breaker... it's probably less than you ate before surgery! Pizza is also greasy and slides down easily (as long as the crust isn't too thick and doughy). We have pizza about 2 times a month, and I let myself have a piece when we do. Have veggies on it and enjoy 1 piece. Just plan for it during the day. That's our rule now, we only order pizza when it's pre-planned and not just because we don't feel like making dinner (which used to happen a couple of times a week...)
  11. If I eat too much my shoulder hurts like hell when I breathe... asked the surgeon and he said what marmot said above. Basically the band is very near the diaphragm, and if you eat too much and expand your pouch it can push the band to irritate the diaphragm and that horrible shoulder pain is really referred pain from the diaphragm. It's a good indicator that I've eaten too much, so I'm learning what it feels like before I get to that point, because it HURTS until all the food has left the pouch and for a while after.

    my poor husband

They do say things without thinking... the other day we were getting intimate and he said "wow, your boobs have gotten smaller- look at the loose wrinkly skin". Which made me cover up and thank him for the lovely compliment. He immediately said he thought it was cool and would love my boobs no matter how wrinkly they got. men!
  13. I'll keep 1 of my biggest pants, and get rid of the rest. I haven't bought new clothes in ages as I've been meaning to lose weight and just couldn't stand the thought of spending money on clothes I wouldn't wear long... of course now most of those clothes are worn and look like crap so nobody else would want them. I'm getting rid of the fat clothes. Don't want anything comfy to fall back into. If I feel my jeans getting tight it doesn't mean I can grab a bigger pair from my closet!!!
  14. wow! I had a 300 program fee that they never asked for and I haven't ever paid. I live 45 minutes from the hospital and getting to monthly meetings isn't possible so I don't feel too bad as I'm not using the program services. but I would have checked elsewhere if Ihad been told 1000
  15. just mix it with applesauce... but only a spoonful! otherwise you have to eat all of the applesauce that tastes nasty. the less the better, just get it over with. The gross liquid pain meds and crushed pills were the worse part of post op for me!
  16. You can get all the right nutrients and more than enough protein and still have the hair loss. Not everyone gets it. My nutritionist said if it happens it happens and upping the protein or vitamins doesn't stop it. it's a cycle that has to finish due to the stress on your body... surgery and weight loss... but the hair does grow back so it's not lost forever. She said you can try the nioxin shampoo (get at salon) or biotin supplements but they don't help everyone either.

    people love failure

Another friend also said to me "WHAT? you've agreed to have surgery on the 13th of the month? Unlucky or what??" " I had mine on FRIDAY THE 13th no less!!! All went well! :-)
  18. I'm still in bandster hell 2 months later!!! I lost 30 before surgery, 12 in the 2 weeks after surgery, and not an ounce since. Haven't gained either. It might have been easier to diet BEFORE the surgery than it is now! I have had 1 fill and am still constantly hungry. Still have a loud uncomfortably growling stomach most of the time. Hungry hungry hungry an hour after eating. Drinking when I'm that hungry just makes it worse. I have my next fill in a couple of weeks and I am HOPING it will help.

    Wondering

yep- asked my doc a couple weeks ago... when we eat too much the pouch is too full, pushes the band into the diaphragm, causing the referral pain in the shoulder. it SUCKS.

    funny feeling in my belly

or it could be a muscle twitch... I get the ALL THE TIME now. I found I was "sucking in" a lot after surgery because it hurt my incisions to have my belly hanging down and pulling on them, so often when I would sit down and relax my stomach muscles they would just start twitching like mad. You could see and feel it sometimes. Mainly on the sides...
  21. I was having the same problem... dr said to try mixing my protein shakes with soy milk or lactaid as it just might be too much for my system to handle... the lactose in the protein powder plus milk. It helped a lot.

    One Year Later

100 lbs in a year is fantastic! I understand how frustrating a long plateau is, but you're a 10 year old smaller than you were a year ago!

    Growling Stomach???

The loud growling is driving me a little nuts too. Strangers have stared at me in line at the bank or grocery store when it gets going. It wasn't like that before the band. I'm hungry all of the time it seems, and when it's growling like that I just can't stand it. Drinking during a growl fest just makes it louder somehow. does this get better as you get more restriction? I have my 2nd fill coming up on 11/5 (every 6 weeks... very conservative practice)
  24. wow. my total bills were about $19,000 including hospital and surgeon... and 2,300 after insurance did their part. They're not supposed to be able to re-bill you after insurance... they have a contract with your insurance company to accept their payment, you shouldn't be getting extra bills after it's been paid!
