    Freaked Out!!!

Thanks Betsy....You nailed it, that was exactly what I had. It only drained that first day but kept bandage on for 2 days. I was also prescribed Bactrim (antibiotic). No leakage since Monday.... Thanks for everyone's comments!
  2. So, I am 3 weeks post op as of today. I am feeling Great!! I was sitting at computer and felt something wet on my shirt, thought I spilled some tea on myself. Changed shirt, came back and looked down....My shirt had a puddle of fluid. Looked at my port incision.....and my port incision is leaking big time!!! I freaked out and called surgeon immediately....He knew exactly what I was talking about. I had to push out as much fluid as possible, he is calling in antibiotics in the morning and it will continue to seep fluid for the next 48 hours (need to keep it bandage). I am praying to God that I do not lose my band!!!!
  3. My surgeon DOES all his fills under Fluoroscopy (xray). I hope your doctor got it in the first time with the xray. I am not quite ready for a fill yet, but I am hoping I do not have a horror story to tell......I feel sorry for all of you that have to go through more pain. Good luck all!
  4. I was told to drink 1 oz every 3 minutes or so. Do you have a medicine cap that is equivalent to 1 oz? It took me forever to drink the required 64oz a day.....sugarfree popsicles and sugarfree jello count as liquids also!! Good luck to you

    Diarrhea?

I had surgery on June 7, Monday and I had diarrhea that started up on Thursday. For me it only lasted a couple of days!! It is very common, it's posted all over the forum....good luck!
  6. That's great....I lost 18 the first week, but gained 2 the 2nd week and lost 5 third week...I am 3 weeks post op....keep up the good work!

    New & Terrified!!!

Maria, I was pretty sore for about 10 days or so after surgery, with each day getting a little bit better. I lost 18# the first week, doctor had me on clear liquids for 10 days!! After seeing that # on scale, I knew I did the right thing. I work for a school district, so I have summers off. So I was not concerned too much about the healing time. And "no" I will not have to have surgery for this leak....it is from my incision, not band....its like a pinhole leak! Anyways.....need to call the surgeon! Take Care of yourself!!!

    New & Terrified!!!

You can tell your friends that having surgery is not the easy way out!! It really makes my surgeon mad when people think like that.....You let them know, that this is a life change. In order for you to be a success you need to follow your surgeon's program. Please do not think this is easy!! I am 3 weeks post op and had my doubts after day 2, but it all gets better. Right now I am having some leaking problems in my port incision....just when I was feeling sooooo good!! Good luck to you in whatever you decide....and keep looking at the pics, they were a constant inspiration for me!!!
  9. I smoked for 25 years....But I quit over a year ago. Thank goodness I haven't started back up....It was the hardest thing that I ever did!!! I still have cravings, but know that I am much healthier without it. My surgeon has you sign a paper stating that you do not smoke and if you do....you have to be smoke free for 8 weeks. Be honest with your surgeon, let him know you only smoke a few now and then, see what he says!!

    I can't handle this weight

I know nothing about Kaiser, but if you do not find your answer here....call your insurance company and just ask them if lapband procedure is covered. That is what I did....thankfully it was!! I had reached my highest weight ever and knew I needed to do something soon!! And YES your meds will make you gain weight! Good luck to you:smile2:

    Bagel Thins

I agree about boredom...keep up the creativity! I love bagel thins and sandwich thins, I ate them before surgery. And yes, the sandwich thins are doughy, but great toasted. I can start bread in about a week, when I hit solid foods....in moderation!

    Embarrassing Situation

I am totally confused....you got banded weighing 160#, and you now have saggy man breasts.....I would die to even weigh 160#!!! There would be no need for a band....LOL
  13. I was banded on June 7....almost 3 weeks post op. Today I noticed when I stand up that my port incision is sticking out...to me it looks like it's sticking out a lot. Is this normal?? It doesn't hurt at all, just doesn't look right. I sent my surgeon's nurse an email, but would like to know ASAP. I don't want to worry over nothing!!

    Port Incision

Thanks for all comments....mine has a puffy yellow circle around it....Could that be a bruise??
  15. If the pain comes and goes it is probably gas. I am 2 weeks post op and still get a few gas pains. Also, if the pain does not go away in your back, I would call the surgeon. My husband had bad back pain in his back after knee surgery and he had a blood clot....so please if it is constant pain that doesn't go away call doctor....good luck!!

    Poor, nervous and shy.

In order to have bariatric surgery...you have to take the first step. The surgeon is not going to come to you, you need to make an appointment with a bariatric surgeon, or attend a seminar to find out your options. If you decide that this is what will work for you, then go for it. It was about a 6 month process for me but I finally got banded on June 7. I can't wait to start using my new tool. Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do!! There are a lot of people on this site, that are very supportive....do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have....
  17. WoW....what a week!!!! I can't wait to be off of clear liquids....UNTIL I weighed myself today. I lost 18 pounds.....I am not so hungry now!!!!! WooHoo!!!

why only 50% of weight will be lost

According to my surgeon, he says that "yes" you can lose all of your excess weight, but after 5 years people only maintain about 50-60% of their weight lost. I am hoping that I am one that can keep 100% off, with no weight gain.

    Nervous

I was banded on June 7, and yes the 1st 2 days were pretty rough for me, by day 3 and every day after that it gets better. You will do great....think positive. I lost 18# for my first week, with NO preop diet or weight loss. Good luck to you! and keep coming back to the forum, its great help!!!

    Hello Everyone!

You really need to find another surgeon (doctor) to do your fills and to take care of you from here on out!!! I am so sorry you were treated like that!! I see that you are from California, I live about 25 miles from the Oregon border. How far are you from Oregon?? My surgeon is in Klamath Falls, Oregon and the staff there are very supportive. Let me know if you are somewhat close to me!! (hugs) to you!!
  24. My surgeon gave me a book that I need to follow....for full liquids I need to start eating 4 "meals" a day. Each meal should be 8-12 oz of full liquids, take fthe first 1-2 oz over 5 to 10 min. Wait for it to settle in your pouch. Take an additional 1-2 oz every 5 minutes, taking a total of 30-45 minutes to consume the 8-12 oz portion. You should drink two 8-12 oz of your protein shakes each day. Hope that helps!! I start full liquids on Wednesday.
