  1. You don't have to remove nails, might have to remove polish on one finger to get an accurate pulse ox!

How Quickly Can I Expect To Lose The Weight?

Is your banding date correct? How much have you lost so far?

Grider, Food police again- no more juice after 1st week. You shouldn't be drinking milkshakes either!

    Small Cheat Big Issues

I will play the food police for Dr Aguila's patients. Grider,I was looking forward to meeting you& recovering you after your lapband surgery ,however I started my Xmas vacation. I would have given advice from my experience as a lapband patient first, then as a nurse caring for his patients for the past 7 years! If you follow the rules you will be successful. If you don't, you set yourself up for failure! Get back on your post-op food guide & follow it for the 6 weeks!
  5. 20 months,112 lbs gone,normal bmi,still losing- total exhilaration with lapband!
  6. Kellysue, I didn't touch caffeine for months either, not Md's rule but dietician's. So now I drink coffee& see where it gets me.. worked 12 hr shift today, it's 2am..& on the forums all night LOL
  7. Yes i eat everything in small amts. However, I was very strict for first few months. You are just starting your journey& many people have struggled with slow weight loss,so my opinion still remains .. wait awhile before you treat yourself.By the way I don't count calories,I eat regular food & go out to dinner 3X/week
  8. Milk does not have empty calories, skim milk or almond milk is an excellent addition to lapband diet. You asked for opinion about having a cocktail this early in your journey...and that's what you got. I didn't say never! By the way I"m a RN who as been dealing with lapband patients for 6 yrs.

To gym or not to gym?

95 lbs the first year,it has become harder the last 6 months because I'm close to goal. Did I do anything else... I'm a RN working 12 hrs shift/3 days a week! When I'm at work, I'm to stressed to eat! ... LOL. By the way I work on a surgical unit & involved with lapband patients. I also was a Labor& Delivery nurse.

To gym or not to gym?

I dislike running,I dislike the gym, but I love the results. Right after my surgery I was walking 5 miles/3-4 days week. To Celebrate my 60th birthday i ran the 5 miles that day! I joined the gym 9 months a go,& was becoming a gym rat going 3-4 days a week. Now I go to the gym 2 days a week& run 1 day a week. I have to tell you that people are unbelieving when I tell them I was 105 lbs heavier last year & I'm 60.
  12. Why would you sabotage your weight loss this early? Did your MD, provide you with a diet to follow the first 6 weeks post-op? There are empty calories in alcohol, personally I rather eat, than waste calories on wine or cocktails.I would wait until you have completely healed. By the way, once you have been banded, alcohol affects you quicker, according to other posters.
  13. I wanted to share some of the best comments made to me at this point in my lapband journey. I am an RN working on med/surg unit. One of the doctors who I haved worked with for several years called me, Skinny bitch"...lol... not in the derogatory way!He knew I had the lapband. Another physician kept asking me.. "was I feeling alright... had I been ill? When I explained about the surgery he was relieved because he thought I developed cancer. Another MD ,who I hadn't seen in a year circled me in the hallway before exclaiming "Judy?' By the way, I've got to end this post& head out to the mall need to buy some new jeans size 14... down from 24, in 81/2 months.

    Why am I soooooo HUNGRY????

You are in what is called 'Bandster Hell". Once you have a fill you should start feeling some restriction. Your weight loss so far has been great... keep up the good work!
  15. The only time I used my lapband card was Boma Restuarant in Animal Kingdom,Disneyworld...just showed the card to restuarant manager...no problem got the child's price.

Any post-op RN's? How long out of work

I took off 2 weeks. I work 3 12hr shifts/wk. I could have taken off one week, but had so much LTS hrs. accrued. In reality only needed the one week.
  17. Ok... I've been thinking about this since I was banded...I would like to know from personal experience, published data, etc, do self-pay have more success with weight loss in the "long run"?
  18. I weigh only at the surgeon's office which is every 2-3months!
  19. Just got back from Dr's office for weigh in &fill. 100lbs lost!

    I'll be honest

Banded,I'm going to side with Reverie on this discussion. The information you suggested is potentially harmful... if you are too tight & quickly drink cold Water,or any Fluid hot or cold, you could aspirate the fluid into your lungs. This is a serious risk! I know you are trying to be helpful& these forums are filled with many posters giving opinions or suggestions without the benefit of medical training. I am an RN,BSN with almost 40yrs. of experience.

    Eating Poll

From the beginning,I have made mostly healthy choices, never denied myself. However I still don't drink carbonated drinks& very little alcohol. My theory is...why drink 150 calories when I can eat it! It is calories in,calories out. I have been exercising 3-4days/wk from the beginning.
