With Ramadan don't you fast from sunrise to sundown? I would eat as much protein as I could prior to sunrise, drink water throughout the day, then eat again after sunset.

Share ideas, What did you eat today ?
icequeen813 replied to kimmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Adriana, It is not the amount of protein you take in to lose the wait, it is total calories & food choices,i.e. high protein, lowfat, low carbs. You are not losing weight because of food choices. Hotdogs& 7 layer dip... Instead eat lean meats like chicken.fish,turkey. Instead of Special K bar for 10gm protein ,eat Chobani youghurt 100 cal. &18 gm 0f protein. Stay away from the white bread.rice,etc. You will lose the weight. -
I love peanut butter also! You need to try almond butter OMG it is the "bomb"! I use MaraNatha brand. Same amt of calories as peanut butter.less sodium, and slightly less saturated fat. I actually prefer it to peanut butter. It is however more expensive, but we are worth it!

Hi Spoiltmom, I'm glad to see that you got your samples. Wait to you try the Roadside Lemonade& Fuzzy Navel! I usually drink one as a supplement to my diet. When you get to the protein bar stage I have a favorite to recommend to you. -
Sleeping on my port side
icequeen813 replied to Keeri3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is not going to do any harm sleeping on your left side. However, I was tender on that left side for approx. a week. Also you may discover the port's incision site is a little more uncomfortable than your other incisions -
I think one week off is when the majority of patients can go back to work. I took an extra week off because I am a nurse, and do alot of lifting, standing&walking.

Are you able to drink full liquids?

Remove the abdominal dressing, doing it by lying down.Once it is removed you will see the incision. What did the plastic surgeon tell you to clean the wound with? Do not shower unless you have specific instructions to do so! Also once you have replaced the sterile dressing, reapply the binder.

Port - Odd placement?
icequeen813 replied to Katybanddiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The port is placed near your largest incision to the left of your umbilicus{belly button} in your case. Mine is on the left above the umbilicus. It was the most tender spot post operatively& made it uncomfortable to sleep on left side. Don't worry, it goes away -

POLL Should I have them redone to make them perfect... Breast pictures
icequeen813 replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm a nurse, therefore I'm more critical of surgical results, I think you didn't get what you paid for! they should be symmetrical. For $8000 they should be perfect! In Florida breast augmentation does not cost what you paid. -
April Bandsters - How are you doing?
icequeen813 replied to BusyMom1961's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a suggestion to all my fellow bandsters. only weigh on the physcian's scales when you make your f/u visits. Your weight can fluctuate day to day. Remember your bodies can be losing inches& that doesn't always show on the scales. -

I'm fortunate to have support from family, friends& co-workers.Also have the big advantage of working with my bariatric surgeon at least once a week, we do lapband surgery every Thur! It's time to walk. keep up the good work everyone. Bandsters rule! -

what's with the shoulder pain?
icequeen813 replied to kurby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is not the anesthesia,it is from gas introduced into abdomen with laparacopic surgeries esp. lapband, lap cholecystectomies, lap appys. I am a nurse working surgical unit& banded on 4/22. I experienced the shoulder pain post-op for approx. 5 days. It is very common with the laparascopic approach to abdomen surgery -
what's with the shoulder pain?
icequeen813 replied to kurby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The shoulder pain is from the co2 that is introduced into the abdomen,so that your organs can be visualized. The way this gas is expelled is through belching, passing gas,& escaping under the diapragm which causes left shoulder pain or discomfort. This usually goes away in 3-5 days.
