I started my LapBand journey last October 2009 by attending a seminar through a center of excellence I had researched online a bit. My husband and I attended and I made an appointment with the surgeon and started checking on what my insurance required to have this done. My insurance required a 3 month "supervised diet" overseen by a dieticien, psychologist, and physician. I completed this and the my surgeon assisted me in setting up all of the preop testing anf appointments needed. They were very thorough in this process and did not leave any stone unturned. I was given a surgery date and started the liquid diet 9 days prior to surgery , I lost about 10 lbs during that time period and this was really not too difficult for me. I had surgery at ST Alexius Hospital on May 4th 2010 and returned home the evening of May 5th. Coming out of surgery into recovery my whole body hurt and I thought why did I do this? The nurse controlled my pain well and being an RN myself I feel they provided great care. At one point while I was awaiting physician discharge orders I felt very nausious and thought I was going to vomit and felt very full of gas, my BP went up a bit the nurse responded immediately and gave me an antinausea med Iv and I was able to hold off on the vomitting  and within a few hours passed a ton of the gas that was making me feel so full, at that point I was ready for Discharge. They gave me all the discharge instructions and sent me on my way. I continue to have some shoulder/neck discomfort which is common from the gas they use to visualize the abdomen. I am also having some left side pain with movement from the actual laporoscopic incision area where apparently they did most of their work, that is getting better everyday. I am eating appros 4- 5 quarter cup full liquid meals at this point the instant breakfast, bariatric protein shakes, cream of wheat, creamed soups, popsicles, and iced tea are my best friend!! I am taking all my crushed meds in sugar free rice pudding which I am tolerating well. the chewable vitamin is tolerable and the calcium crystals are tasteless 2 times a day in any liquids. I feel very good about my progress and intake at this time . Today May 7th I am 18 lbs less than my highest wait in November 2009. Most of that is very recent weight loss.
