I have had weight problems since grade school, making the fight a nearly lifelong process. It's truly become the bane of my existence. I have always had a negative view of my physical appearance and it has hindered my ability to start and maintain close interpersonal relationships. My inability to mentally handle my weight problem led to depression, self loathing, and therefore, more weight problems. I wasted many of the best years of my life because of these problems. Since graduating college, I have committed myself to becoming a better, more well-rounded person. I have been successful in changing other troubling aspects of my life, which lead me to tackling "Goliath" problem in my life via lap band. I have had some success with other weight loss efforts, but have failed to sustain the loss over long periods of time. I especially had success with the Atkins diet (losing 40 pounds in 2 months in summer 2009), but fell back into old patterns and regained the amount. As sad as it may be to say, I truly believe that I can only be happy without the weight (a lesson hammered in for the last 16 years of my life). The lap band offers the most promising and exciting opportunity for me to date. This is the final step in my own personal revival and the control is completely in my hands. I am committed to succeeding and finally being truly content in my life. I can't wait to get started and embark on this new chapter.
