I have had a weight problem since the birth of my second child in 1988. Each subsequent year, the pounds kept coming. It is easy to gain weight while raising two active children. Drive through dinners before and after sports or concerts, etc. only help to put on the pounds. I can remember always cleaning my children's plates after dinner and making all of their left overs disappear. I am a closet eater in that while cleaning the kitchen and doing dishes after dinner, I Always found more food to jam in my mouth. I never ate very much at meal time, rather I would graze my way through the day, picking and eating and noshing. It seemed as if I gained weight in spite of the "small meals " I ate in front of my family and friends. I had been thinking about the surgery for several years after going clothing shopping and having to actually look at myself in the dressing room mirror. I just cried and of course went home and binged after everyone was in bed. My problem was complicated by the fact that I am a gourmet cook who enjoys cooking and planning meals for my friends and family.I had my surgery on November 19, 2009 and as of today I have lost over 60 pounds. I have been inspired by my best friend in Washington State who I met for a vacation in early 2009 in Savannah, GA. When she came up the ramp in the Atlanta Airport, I could not recognize her. She had lost over 100 pounds and I just cried, not because she looked so wonderful, rather she was finally healthy after having a weight problem all of her life. My surgery was a success, my surgeon was amazing and supportive and this is the only way for me to lost weight. If I could have lost weight before, I would have. I still enjoy cooking but now I do not gorge myself with fattening foods. I am amazed at my success and love working out on my treadmill for at least 1 hour per day.!!!!
