  1. I have been hovering around this forum off and on for a while, trying to decide if the band is the right thing for me. I am about 60 lbs. overweight, and at 4'11'' that is a lot of weight!! I am type II diabetic, which has proven even harder for me to lose weight. I start a diet, but then my blood sugar drops and I am ravenous!!! It just seems so hopeless. I have read somewhere that many people manage to get control over the type II diabetes after doing lap band. Is there anyone out there that is type II diabetic and has had the lap band surgery?
  2. Hi. I am really needing some help and direction. I am 47, 5'0 and about 180 lbs. I am insulin dependent type II diabetic. I am addicted to carbs, sweets, etc. and seem to have no self control. I will start a diet and do well for a while, then something comes up and I am back to the same old destructive ways. I do exercise, I have been working with a personal trainer for about 3 months, but I just can't get a handle on my eating. Last spring I had an initial appt with a local bariatric surgeon and started doing all of the things to be banded. But I started to think that I should be able to do it on my own, so I dropped the ball. Well, now here I am several months later and several pounds later! I was wondering if the lab band will be a good fit for me since I can't seem to control what I eat? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
  3. The doctor that will do my lab band surgery, if I decide to do it, requires that all patients do 3 weeks of all liquid diet preop. I am thinking that if I have the will power to do three weeks of liquid diet then I wouldn't be in this condition to start with. Any thoughts?
  4. I have just started the process. Have had Dr. consult, psych eval and 1st meeting w/dietician. I am a self pay. I was wondering how people make it thru the pre op diet? I have been told my Dr. has people go on all liquid for 2-3 weeks. I feel like if I can do that, I should have been able to lose this weight before. I am really scared about that pre op diet!! Also, I am type II diabetes, what goes on with your sugars right after the surgery? Thanks for any info.

New:Awaiting the new chapter in my life

I too am just beginning this journey. I have had my doctor consultation, first dietician appt. and have my psych eval tomorrow. Next week I will get to sit in on a support group meeting. I am a self pay, my insurance (BC/BS of Kansas) does not pay for weight loss surgery. My BMI is 37, but I have type II diabetes. I really want to get rid of the diabetes, I hate needles even though I have to stick myself with them all the time. My fear right now is that I won't be able to make it thru the pre-op diet. The dietician told me that my Dr. usually has people on liquid only diet for 2-3 weeks before surgery!!! I just don't know how I am going to do that.
  6. I am just starting the process, and was wondering if there was anyone out there that has been through this in Wichita, KS. I will be using Dr. Villanueva at Wesley Medical Center. I would just like to talk to someone who has been through it and is familiar with him. I will be sitting in on a support group next week, so hopefully I will meet someone there who will talk to me. But if there is anyone out there, let me know. Thanks.
