  1. Hi Michelle, nice to hear you are also doing well...I started introducing the solid stuff last Thursday, and for me it is slow going...stuff like chicken breast and some lowfat moz string cheese, and that all seems to go down well. Eggs too. HOwever, one of my most favorite things is potstickers from my fav Chinese restaurant...my hunny brought me a few (they are kind of big), so had one...chewed and chewed, made it really small...however, the chili sauce I dipped them in didn't quite set right...I actually thought I was going to heave it back up....won't try that again for awhile! It actually upset me for a full day, so went back to just protein shake and cottage cheese.

  2. Yes, I remember the gas pain! Oh, that hurt!

I ate scrambled eggs last night for dinner and noticed some pinching...I chewed and chewed those suckers up til they were nothing, and was satisfied with almost 2 eggs. Once eggs get cold, Im not that fond of them, so that probably contributed to not finishing them.

Nutritionist told me I can now go to most foods, but to make them soft....only crispy thing she thought was appropriate at this point was multi grain saltines....but, I will give one a try soon with some hummus, and see how that goes! 1/2 cup of food at a time now, chewed up well. Well, gotta go to work, ttyl!

  3. Well, hi Michelle- like the smurf! I cant seem to figure out how to add a image; how did you do that? I didn't know you had written me, as it didn't show up on my profile page; I came here to yours to write a message, so glad to catch up with you.

I had two week check up yesterday and all is great...down 11 pounds from surgery on their scales, and doc says that is not the usual...normally, people either don't consume enough calories and body goes into starvation mode, so they don't lose, or they just don't lose more than a pound or two (she said)....I don't know...I think because I immediately got up and around and am walking, moving, etc., that's why..when only getting about 900 calories a day from protien shakes, yogurt and cream soup, hard to believe 11 pounds is really anything unusual...low carb diets seem to do that for me.

  4. I talked with a lady at work who has had the band for 4 years (she has lost about 120 pounds) and she told me this is the hardest part...getting through until we start to get fills. She says it gets alot easier then to feel satisfied. She also says there are still some things she cant eat, fibrous types of food like asparagus and pineapple. She says she loves both so much she chews and chews and chews it, then spits out the pulp. Seems kind of gross, but, who knows, somewhere down the line I may really, really, really need a taste of pepporoni pizza (lol)!

Anyway, glad things are going well for you! I have found that each day the pain/soreness was a little less, and I have had a little more energy...I started walking at lunch again last week, and am back up to 30-40 minutes a day of walking....I do find that even going slightly uphill makes my stomach muscles a little sore, but thinking that will go away soon...by the way, my name is Lori. ttyl

  5. It was nice to hear from you. My port site was tender for about a week, and even now it "pinches" sometimes...Yes, I agree, the liquid thing sucks. I have my two week post op tomorrow with surgeon, and meet with the nutritionist. I get to move to the soft food stage after that (I think this is what some people call "mushies").

4 pounds is great! I am down 12 pounds now, but that has leveled off in the last several days. I started to try to keep track of my calories a few days ago, and am only about 900, so not sure if my body thinks it is starving----I sure do! I'm hungry most of the time at some level.

  6. Hi there - hope everything went well and you are feeling good...I'm hungry today (I don't have work to distract me!) so broke down and had a banana/protien/peanut butter smoothy...yummy!

    Looking for May Bandsters

Well, I am almost 2 weeks out (banded 05/13), and other than lacking some energy, I'm ok. I'm hungry just on liquid diet, and not supposed to add anything back until 2 weeks (soft food stage), but I had to have something today...so, blended up a banana, scoop of chocolate protein, 2 tbsp peanut butter (licked the spoon, too!) a cup of milk. It was wonderful! I only drank half of it, and that was likely too much, but boy it sure hit the spot...well, not like a cheeseburger, but you know what I mean? I meet with the nutritionist this Wednesday to see where to go from here.
  8. 05/13/10 banded: Hi there - I also seem to be healing exceptionally fast...the only lingering issue I have seems to be gas marching through me. I can burp pretty well though (always could!), but the gas moving through can get a bit uncomfortable. I also am getting hungry, so am dringing protein shakes every 2-3 hours(mixed with one cup water), having some cream soup (about 1/2 cup), or a yogurt. Cant quite finish the whole yogurt container though...then, I'm not really "full", but no longer hungry. Also, have been walking at lunchtime and managed 30 minutes yesterday, but was a little sore in the tummy later in the afternoon...I go in on 05/26 for my post op checkup, but pretty sure it is not a fill...I think the first fill is not for about 5 weeks post surgery. Seems like a long time. So far, only down 11 pounds.

    Banded 5/11!!!!

Hi there - I was banded on 05/13 and also am doing great. Am sleeping good now, and actually able to go to sleep on my side. Back to work. I also am having trouble with burping sometimes, and have to stand up to get it out....I am still on full liquids until 05/27, then I get to start adding in soft foods...really looking forward to those mashed potatoes! My friend made chicken noodle soup, and then pureed it up for me yesterday, but I'm a liitle afraid to eat it....not sure if pureed noodles are ok at this time, and have not heard back from the nutritionist...good luck to you all!
  10. Hi MLW - How you doing today? Getting excited? Well, today is Tuesday the 18th, and I am feeling really good. Went back to work yesterday (was going to take of time but my bosses daughter died...) and then a college class in the evening, and did ok. A little tired, so decided to only work 1/2 day today. I am getting around really well. Am able to sleep on my side, and even work up partially on my stomach (my preference) this morning. I am healing up really fast, no problems getting up and down or around. A little "pinching" feeling inside where the biggest incision was. And, when I eat cream soup, it bloats me a bit, so am trying to not eat too much...Not too hungry, since drinking liquids and water most of the time, and keeping the protein up...but, I would really like a big ole bite of cheeseburger! Thinking of you and hope your surgery goes really well...by the way, have lost from 242 morning of surgery to 234 so far.

  11. 05/17/10 - I was banded on the 13th, and am doing pretty good. I had a bowel movement the second evening, but I have been taking stool softeners twice a day since the day after surgery. I went back to work today, and am pretty tired tonight. My incisions itch, and I feel a pinching and itching inside where I assume the port is. I'm still getting some gas pain, but nothing like the first couple of days, and I just walked and walked for that...I can tell if I am physically hungry, or emotionally hungry...anybody else noticing how many cheeseburger and pizza commercials there are on tv??? I had clear liquids 1st and 2nd day, and can now have full liquids...protein shakes (not liking that too much), cream soup, cream of wheat...I'm supposed to do this for 2 weeks, then can move to the soft food phase. looking forward to that, but concerned that I may be eating too much. Have sent an email to nutritionist to ask more...I remember my surgeon saying my band was not too tight right now, so hoping that when I see him 3rd week of June, it wil be time for the first fill...am finally sleeping on my side again, and fitfully dreaming of being on my belly!
  12. Hi Chocolate...Maybe it's not the right time for you. Many people back out and then finally decide at a later time to have the surgery...or not. Sometimes fear is present for a reason...if you have not accepted the negative possibilities that can exist, perhaps more thought is in order. My prayers to you...
  13. I'm feeling ok, but having serious bloating problems...I think I should not have had chicken tacos for dinner the night before surgery! I have been walking up and down my hallway several times per day, and today started some protein shakes and just had 4 oz of cream of chicken soup made with super milk and a little chicken soup protein...I also had some jello today...I'm showing 4 pounds down, but who really knows this soon?? I am hoping to lose 80 pounds. I'm 5'6" and 242 pounds at surgery. I'm a fairly athletic, muscular girl, and have never in my life weighed less that about 180 (well since I was a small child, anyway) so I don't really know what will work best for me. Thinking that 160 sounds good - the biggest reason I had this surgery is because I'm getting older, and it's getting hard to make my body work hard; my joints hurt. I'm hoping with some significant loss, I will be able to get back to working hard without hurting so much...how about you?

  14. Hi Dreams - I was banded yesterday, and also had some problems with being apprehensive. I am still kinda scared that this wont work. However, like Leigha, I decided I would rather die than keep on trying to live with the pain and disease from this horrible extra weight. I backed out last August, partly because of this fear. You have to do what is right for you, so good luck with your decision....I'm relying on the advise and well wishes of those here who have gone before me to help me through.

    Day 2

Day 2 for me today, Friday. I'm pretty sore; feel like I was kicked really hard a few times...and still really tired...I'm still taking the rx pain killer every 6 hours, as it is hard to get up and down when it starts wearing off. I'm hoping to go back to work, at least part time, on Monday. Two other ladies I work with took one and two weeks off when they had surgery, but we have a very generous leave policy. I want to go back, so hoping I'm able to Monday.
  16. Hi MLW - I had my surgery today at OHSU in Portland OR. It is a teaching hospital, and I felt good having the surgey there. Have you had the surgery? If so, has it been successful for you? I had planned to have this surgery last year, but chickened out at the last moment. It was successful today, my doc said everything went well and looked good...Im in pain, think it is a combination of gas in my upper chest and then internally. The incisions don't seem to be to bad; 5 of them....I had some nausea after from the anesthesia, so stayed a bit longer today than doc or I thought I would...And, beleive it or not, I'm hungry....I'm only drinking water and crystal light, the nutritionist says clear liquids til day 3...

    Happy Band day to Me!!

I'm being banded tomorrow, and having anxiety issues tonight...hope my experience is as yours!

    Not sure

Malysa - I understood everything you wrote. My surgery is scheduled for May 13, and I still feel alot like you write. And I also told one wrong person, so I'm not sure how many know...but, I have gotten to the point where I just don't care anymore. I am looking at this as a tool that I care enough about myself to use. Good luck to you!
