How much have you lost 4 weeks out?
gigi0504 replied to candy rain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on May 4th. I've lost about 25lbs. Most of that came from the pre op 5 day liquid diet though and due to my metabolism I drop weight when exercising like crazy so, I had to warn my Dr that i would drop quickly then stall. Dont compare yourself. Just keep going! I am excited by the changes that are happening to me and its making me want to keep going! I know when I hit that stall, I will need to look back on this time and just keep going again! -
Hi everyone! I was banded on May 4th and had the usual chest/left arm pain which went away by Sunday. I've been eating cream of wheat, pudding, Jello, cream Soups per my DR but last night I was dumb. My husband scrambled some eggs and I have been getting hungry quickly so I thought to myself that eggs chewed until they were really nothing would be ok! I had 1 scrambled egg and chewed and chewed and chewed some more. I felt fine for about 2 hours. Then I felt a lump of bricks in my stomach. It was very uncomfortable. I never threw up but I noticed that I had a new sensation in the middle of my breastbone that reminded me of the chest pain from the gas which was gone on Sunday. It feels tight in my breastbone area. (for you girls, right below the clevage area) Sorry fellas, had to tell you where it is. Any ideas if I really messed myself up? I sipped some hot tea thinking something got stuck but the pain is still there today. Its not bad, just an annoying "dont know what this is pain". I have been RELIGIOUS today on going back to what the Dr told me to eat and will NEVER stray from the path again if this is what getting stuck feels like. I just wanted to know if this was normal or should I be concerned? Thanks for any advice. You guys have been very supportive! OH! New things, when I burp, it feels better. I'm gonna be embarasses if its just gas or bloating.

Hi everyone! Thanks for the responses. I actually am feeling GREAT now. I guess I was rushing it and when I called my Dr office and told her my concerns the nurse was going WHAT DID YOU EAT??? Soooo, I was a bad patient. I made sure to eat exactly what I was supposed to eat yesterday with NO DEVIATION and I am feeling MUCH better. so, a lesson learned... the Dr. knows what he is doing for a reason and I should just LISTEN better. LOL Thanks for the advice and support!

congrats on feeling better. I had my surgery on the 4th and I am here to tell you that it gets easier. I took the entire week off that I had my surgery, and then went back to work the follwing Tuesday. I knew I would need the extra time off. Not for the pain but because I do not handle anestesia well. And I was right. I had vision issues from the anti nausea patch they gave me. I could not see with my glasses. Go figure! It resolved itself after the patch was off. But today, I am feeling pretty good and the pain in the port area is barely noticible.. well, unless I bang it on my desk at work. I got smart and brought a pillow. And I really could not have done this without my family as well. my parents took my 3yr old for the entire week. I heart my family! Good luck to you and FOLLOW THE DR DIET INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. I posted something about my stupid idea just now in the forum. LOL

I was banded the same day as you and although our tolerance to pain may be different, every day I started to feel better with the gas pain, chest pain and pain in the incision area and today, other than the port area and some discomfort when sitting for long periods of time, I feel ok. (unless I move or twist too quickly and OUCHIES! The port hurts! ) I would call BS on that nurse like the previous poster said and get in to see the DR. If its in the port area and if you have fever, you may have an infection or something may have happened when you moved. Be careful and I hope you feel better.

Banded May 5 and STARVING!!!
gigi0504 replied to amey_idaho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 4th and by Friday I was actually hungry myself. I had some waterd down refried Beans and moved on my own to a creamy based soup and that helped until Monday. Monday,I thought I was going to chew my arm off.Ii took a bite of the scrambled egg beaters I made my family for breakfast and chewed and chewed and it was GOOD! I'm watching what kinds of mushies I am eating and sticking with SMALL portions and just trying one new thing at a time but so far, I have had NO problems and I am still loosing but it is helping me get my energy back! Doing just the shakes and broth alone was NOT working for me. Glad I am not the only one! -

2nd Day banded, please tell me it goes away..
gigi0504 replied to Dblex's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Tuesday and I too have the chest pain. It feels like someone is sitting on my chest. Anyone else experience this and have any hints on how to reduce the pain other than pain meds which keep me loopy? The pain in the port area is slowly goin away and its easier to move around. Now, if i could just get over the chest pain. Thanks for any advice in advance! -
Had my lapband done this past Monday May 3-doing great!

Hi all! I had my surgery on the 4th and I finally took a shower today. It was heaven. I thought I would not have the gas and left shoulder problem because I did not have it right away. Boy was I wrong. I woke up this morning needing the gas meds. I also have NO appetite however, my stomach rumbles. So, if it rumbles I try to sip my shakes, broths, eat a popcicle etc. I feel pretty bloated right now and my chest is still super tight feeling but nothing I can't handle. I am only taking the pain meds if I wake in the middle of the night, or right before bed. No problems with nausea at all. That is what I was most afraid of. So, really its not as BAD as I was expecting, but still not alot of fun. Good luck to all those out there to be banded soon! -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
gigi0504 replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I am on my second day of post op and yesterday, I had clear broth, a few sips of a Protein shake and lots of ice chips. I woke up today wanting to actually eat. Broths and Jello and pudding are just not working for me and my stomach was growling. I've just been following the post op diet and eating/drinking what I am supposed to. I did ok on the pre op diet but wondered if anyone else had the same issue with thinking they were hungry after surgery. -
I had a "why did I do this moment yesterday in recovery due to the pain, but really, it is manageable now. I think I had a super Dr, super nurses and the surgery went sooo well. That and a pretty high pain tolerance. The thing I was worried about the most was going under. THAT was a funny story. Supposedly, I cuss like a sailor! I am looking gorward to the pain lessening, and moving on.

Hey everyone! I was banded yesterday. The procedure went very, very well and since I was on outpatient basis, I was operated on at 945ish and was home before noon. It was pretty painful the first 12 hours and I was up walking around a little yesterday. I sipped on Water, a Protein shake and some crushed ice. LOVE the crushed ice. By 7pm I was eating lemon Jello which tasted heavenly! I was surprised not to have the gas pains everyone is always talking about. All I really have to contend with is the pressure in the lungs when I breathe deeply and the most pain is around the port center. I am taking my liquid pain meds twice a day today and I may be off it all tomorrow! Good luck to each and every one of you.

I am two day out until surgery and I am having mixed emotions. I cheated on my pre-op liquid diet last night with a piece of pizza. Yes, I did. And it was gone before I even thought about what I was eating. Today is much better. I even cooked my husband breakfast- eggs, bacon and toast and did not want a bit of it. Weird for me. I normally am the first one to fight over the bacon. LOL Eating soup tonight for dinner followed by a glass of water and possibly some yogurt as a treat or a popcicle. Tomorrow, more shakes, and nothing past 8pm since my surgery is at 9am. I'm nervous but since starting the pre-op diet Thursday, I have dropped 15lbs. I was able to put on somke capri pants that have been in my closet since 2 summers ago that were tight then. They fit PERFECTLY now. This just keeps me motivated!

Hey there. I have Anthem BCBS and I am in Texas. I work for a very large company and I kid you not my approval process and surgery date took me about 1 month. I started looking into True Results in February andin the beginning of March had my first appointment, got my insurance approval the end of March. They are paying for 90% of the surgery. I just pay 10% and since my insurance has a deductible cap of 1k, I pay exactly 1k. NOT KIDDING. How could I NOT go through with the surgery. Anthem has been very quick on everything for me and approval went through with no problems at all. I am 5"4 and about 235lbs and have a BMI over their limit and am boarderline diabetic. Good luck and best wishes!

Help!!! 4th day of Pre-op Diet
gigi0504 replied to lace's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is Tuesday as well and I fell off the wagon today. I was GREAT until dinner time and I started to feel sick. I caved and ate a piece of pizza before I even knew what I was doing. I imediately regretted it. So angry at myself but I am drinking a ton of Water and getting right back on the wagon and I know that it wont happen again. I dont want to jeopardize the surgery. -
Hi! I get banded on Tuesday. I had a very bad day today on my pre op diet. I caved and ate a piece of pizza. I am sure I am going to pay for it. I am just so angry at myself. Grrr I am flushing with LOTS of water and getting right back on the horse starting. NOW. Good luck to you!

I get banded on may 4th and I joined here today. I too have had people ask me why I can't just diet and think i am lazy. I've been trying diet after diet for years and always gain it back. then, there are all my friends at work and my wonderful parents who are in my corner and rooting for me every step of the way and I know I can count on them. It wont be easy and come holiday time I know I am going to want my mom's Kentucky Derby Pie. I know they will help me and keep me on track. Just keep on smiling and know that soon you will have a tool to help you on your journey and the end results will all be worth it.
