I couldn't believe what someone said to me
gigi0504 replied to shoewhore17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
how exciting! Way to go!!! Someone stopped me today that knew I had the surgery but she told me that she could really see a HUGE difference already and I look like another person. Gave me a big boost for the day today. -

What did you tell your employer & co-workers?
gigi0504 replied to sara31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work with a team of people that I am close to and have known for years so I told them ALL and my boss and of course my family. Other co-workers have asked me if I have lost weight(I have and its noticible) have asked me what I am doing and some of them I tell, some not. Just depends. You do what is best for you and what you feel comfortable sharing. I am an open book to an extent and if my experience can help someone else, I share! -
1st fill feels funny
gigi0504 replied to wannaBLean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a little trouble with my first fill too. When I drank the Water after in front of him I took a small sip and it felt like it was just sitting in my throat and you could hear it gurgle. (WEIRD FEELING) but it DID go down. I was tight for about a week and just had to be careful and remember to chew slowly, and not take too big of a bite. My second fill, I did not notice anything until 3 days AFTER the fill and them bam, I could really tell. Its almost like a delayed effect with me. If you still can't keep anything down and you are taking small sips, call your Dr back. You might need an unfill. Good luck! -
Lost 30 lbs and now i am stuck!!
gigi0504 replied to Kkrc10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
30 lbs is GREAT! I was banded on May 4th of this year and I am at 37lbs lost so far. I think it has to do with what you eat, portion size, your metabolism, and if you are exercising. I try to mix it up since I get bored doing the same thing every day. I walk, or will do the eliptical machine, or one day, focus on weights, then have a video I do. (Yes, its a Richard Simmons video) I laugh my tail off doing it because its so funny but 30 minutes is up before I know it! I know when I hit a couple weeks of not loosing, I changed up my calorie intake and increased it for a week then lowered it again and that helped kickstart me again. I also found out I am one of those people that have a CRAZY fast metabolism but because I was not exercising AT ALL before surgery my body was storing everything I would eat. SO, now that I am active again, I find myself needing to eat sometimes every 2 hours. My Dr. and I discussed it and he said as long as I am choosing healthy items, this would work for me.I am still eating 3 meals just having Snacks in between. Veggies, cheese, hummus, something to keep me going. Best of luck! -
I learend a lesson-what NOT to eat. TMI but it can happen folks!
gigi0504 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on May 4th and I am able to start eating this week mushy casseroles, tuna, flakey fish, refried beans.. you get the picture. Well, one thing my DR said I could eat is cheese Enchiladas. YUM! Today, my co-workers who are so supportive of me invited me to go along to Rosa's Tortilla factory. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and Beans. I immediately portioned my food to half an enchilada and a tiny bit of beans and began eating. I ate in small bites and everything went down fine. I was full and content and just happy to be out with everyone after eating at my desk. Well, not ten minutes after I ate, my intestines decided to rebel on me. Luckily, I made it back to work but spent an lovely 30 minutes in the restrooms. So, a HUGE lesson learned, be careful what I eat and watch the fat content. I think I will be sticking with liquids tonight for dinner. -
Buddy wanted, any May 2010 Banders?
gigi0504 replied to Sibom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Banded May 4th and today two days ago I was 214. Today 215 and I am sure tomorrow, either the same or 214 again. I KNOW I am ready for another fill already so I feel ya here. Hang in there. Keep watching what you eat, make good choices and get back in the game. I had a piece of the super thin crust pizza (supreme with all the veggies) and that was my splurge for the week. It was heaven but I made sure I walked an extra half hour and kept my exercise up. Its so easy to get into the mindset that if it goes down you can eat it. Well, next fill, I may not be so lucky so better to just eat right now than pay later right? Hang in there and anytime you want to vent or talk, message me! -
A thread for those quickly approaching onederland
gigi0504 replied to LapNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can not wait to reach onederland too! I am 215.. wait 214...wait 215 and have been going back and forth for about a week gaining and loosing the same pound. It is time for another fill and I have 2 weeks to go. We can do it! -
I was hungry after mine. The fill doesnt stop you from being hungry, just the amount you can eat. Make sure what you are eating has protein. I had liquids the day of the fill and then mushies the next day and started on solids after that.
-
Hi Protein right now people. it helps with the hunger. You just have to ride it out and eat as much protein as you can until your first fill. I had my first fill and 3 weeks later, I am so ready for my next one. Getting hungry again. Good luck!
-
Oh wow! I hiccuped aftermy first fill forever then the burps after eating started. I can burp like crazy now! I was told it was normal and means I am full. (The burping) And I agree with the eating too fast and hiccups. Thats when mine happen. Learning to slow down.

Hi Erica, I had surgery on May 4th of this yyear and I experience nausea in the afternoons a few days out of the week. Its gotten better as time passes.I think the worst of it was around the time I was ready to start trying solids because I was HUNGRY. LOL If it continues, I would talk to your Dr about it. Thats what I did with mine! Good luck!

Does anyone have an issue with port placement??
gigi0504 replied to CarolWA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on May 4th and the area around my port is still sensitive. Infact I was leaning over the washer getting some clothes in the bottom and the washer hit me right int he port area. It had me on my knees in the laundry room for a good minute or two. It may just take some time to heal. When I had my c-section it took a long time to feel comfortable again. I want to say a few months before all the pain went away. -
Bathroom issues after a fill????
gigi0504 replied to jen36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
exact same thing happened to me the day after a fill. I was home alone with my daughter and my husband was at work and I had to spend a good 3 hours in the bathroom. OMG. AWFUL! Not sure if it was the fill or what but the timing was a little suspicious and nobody else was ill in the family. -
First fill-no swallow test?
gigi0504 replied to Bandmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my first fill yesterday and had to drink out of the little cup filled with Water. I took about 3 swallos and he decided I was ok even though the water was gurgling in my throat. If you ever question your fills, make sure to talk to the Dr. Thats what they are there for! Mine told me I may be a bit snug and if I had ANY issues to call and he would immediately unfill me. Good luck! -
Really bad day...
gigi0504 replied to palmtreegirl70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all, congratulations for taking a step and having the lap band surgery!!! Youve made a HUGE decision and you should feel PROUD! I had my surgery May 4th and had my first fill yesterday. Now for the hard part and don't thake this the wrong way....The band is a just a tool. Its up to YOU to do the work but alot of us want instant results and its just not going to happen for some people. The lap band = slower weight loss which is a GOOD thing. And you are going to have ups and downs but you just push through the downs and get through it. I stalled for the last two weeks and although I did not gain, I went up/down between the same darn pound for a week. Then I had my fill and bam, weight was GONE overnight. You may just need to have a fill and are in the "bandster hell" they talk about on here. As for the exercising, never, ever work out so hard that you puke! I know you you "got your mad on" and took it out on the treadmill (I do that myself and I clean the house) but you also took it out on your body and the band. You have to be careful not to over do it! I still have to remind myself of that same thing especially when I tried for a 5 mile walk. That did NOT go over well. At 2 miles, I was calling for a ride. And last but not least, you are NOT alone. There are alot of us on here that are going through the same thing, so instead of walking till you puke, do your walk then come on here and vent. Feel free to message me or add me as a friend! I am on here alot and will be happy to listen to you vent! :Dancing_biggrin: -
You know, same thing is happening to me. My absolute favorite food was a hamburger. My 3 yr old fed me a bite of hers one night and I kept trying to say no but she's 3 and doesnt understand, so I picked the bread off and took a bite of the beef and thought I would get sick. It tasted AWFUL. Then, we were at a party and I tried a pinch of cake. I had to spit it out. And let me tell you about pizza. Cardboard now! I would rather eat ricotta and sauce topped with cheese! I was told at one of my appointments that some patients actually loose their sweet tooth because of the band placement. Sweets were never my problem, breads were and I have had NO desire to even eat anything with bread since the surgery. It just looks gross now! Weird huh?

I had my first fill yesterday as well. WOW.. he put in 2ccs and I found out that I had ome fluid already in there from the surgery. I could tell a difference. It was WEIRD drinking the water after the fill and at first it gurgled and sat in my throat and I was thinking it would not go down, but it did. I have to sip small amounts at a time. I am STARVING myself and was told to do pudding like textures for a couple days, then I can go to mushies and slowly add in food. I am going to stick with soups etc and sunday, try some eggs.

nervous and discouraged
gigi0504 replied to jllybean1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dont get discouraged! People are not all the same on their weight loss. Some people drop it slowly and some people can loose it quickly. It all depends on your metabolism and exercising helps. I started my liquid diet on April 29th. I had surgery on May 4th and I am down 27lbs. Most of that was Water weight from the liquids before and after surgery but even with my weight, I have a VERY fast metabolism. When I exercise, I drop weight quickly. I know I will hit a few rough spots but I'm going to keep going and every pound lost I will be thankful for. Hang in there! We can ALL do it! -
I learend a lesson-what NOT to eat. TMI but it can happen folks!
gigi0504 replied to gigi0504's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been very careful with my portions. VERY careful because I do NOT want to get anything stuck AT ALL. The tortillas are corn tortillas and I NEVER would have eaten it if it wasnt approved. So, mabye it was just a weird reaction. It was the first "real" food I have eaten in almost a month and my eating out has all but stopped. Thanks for the advice all! -
Having some pain almost 4 weeks after surgery
gigi0504 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone! I was banded on May 4th and so far, so good! One of the main reasons I decided to have the surgery was for the joint pain I was experiencing because of the weight. Well, that joint pain is GONE! I am so happy I did this. One thing that has happened though and I am not sure what it is, I have developed this pain on the same side my port is. Its a really SHARP pain if I twist a certain way or bend over or lean over and have to stretch when I do so. I am worried I did something to the port or it detached when it is still healing. I have only started cleaning my house again. Nothing too crazy and still not lifting anything so I am not sure how this happened. So, last night I took it easy and did not do a thing. I went to bed and I slept fine and when I got up, I felt a little better BUT then I had to pick something up off the floor and the pain came back. It wasnt as stong as it was the day before but still there. Other than that, I feel wonderful! Has anyone had this? Should I be concerned? My next Dr apt is June 2nd and he is super booked so I was trying to see if I could wait until then or if I really needed to press to be seen now. Thanks all! -

gigi0504 replied to gigi0504's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually this week per my diet guidelines, I am allowed to try these things but I agree, that I am going to make it at home instead and without tortillas even though they were really soft and mushy and I ate TINY bites. I agree with the fatty foods. BELIEVE me and it wasnt my choice of places to go.I have been very good about making sure my choices are healthy except for this instance and believe me I will not be making that mistake again. -
6 days Post-Op. Finally hungry. Can I cheat a day??
gigi0504 replied to jwkrock's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Dr gave us the post of diets for a reason. LOL I cheated and I paid dearly and it set me back a good 3 or 4 days. DON"T cheat unless you get the ok from the Dr. And really? What's one more day going to do to you? -
Will it always hurt to burp? (not PB, just burp)
gigi0504 replied to CathyBFromGa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded about 2 weeks ago and I am burping ALOT too! LOL The worst pain was the week of the surgery. Now, its not too bad. The pain is easing up as time goes. Its fine to burp when I am at home and I can just let it out but when I am at work, man, that is uncomfortable. Luckily, I work with alot of great people so when one just came out they laughed and asked if I felt better. which I sure did!
