Hi everyone! My name is Felisha and I am 20 years old. My husband is Michael and he is 23 currently in the US Army deployed to Iraq. We have a son and he is 9mo old. I have been thinking about getting lapband surgery and after several long talks with my husband I think it is the right choice for me. I went to talk to my PCD today and she pointed me in the right direction. I found a lapband facility that will help me with my journey. My insurance will only approve me if I have any other health issues besides being 100lbs over weight. So I have a full physical scheduled for Friday. I got in a car accident 3 years ago and my back/left hip is in CONSTANT pain. 10/10 every day. My DR said that because I live "day to day" and "get around fine" that will not qualify me under my insurance. My mother has sleep apnia(sp) so I'm going to have them schedule me for a sleep study. I'm hoping I can get qualified because my husband and I can not afford it otherwise, and the facility here doesn't offer financial aid. Anyway, I joined to read success stories and getting advice.

Tricare Approval or Denial??

Every time I think of quitting smoking i have a panic attack and have to rush to have a smoke. -
I have scolosis too but I didn't know that counted... My dr won't reccomend it till I've quit smoking for a month!! GRRRRR!

Has anyone been approved with BMI/weight alone? I have SEVER back and hip pain and am only 20 years old. I'm hoping to get surgery but now I'm starting to get very very worried. They said I need BOTH weight of the 100lbs over and a whole long list of things. And I haven't had my physical yet but I don't think I have any of the other requirements. So, Has anyone been approved w/ BMI/weight alone and how long did it take?

Oh, also. I was talking to my family and my great grandma has HBP, my grandma has high colestoral and my mom has HBP and sleep apnea. My mom told me that my dads whole family is obese and all have issues w/ HBP and diabetes.

Well, I had my psyche appointment today and he said that we'll have 2 more for him to finish writing up his exam in the questions he has to ask but he said I am mentally stable and doing it for the right reasons. He did say that I would have to quit smoking for him to give the okay, and if I could do that then he would give me the go ahead. I don't want to quit.. But and I know I could lie my way out of that one.. But it is something I need to do for my health so I will quit cold turkey as soon as I'm done w/ what I have now and I won't buy anymore smokes. So... I guess I should start smoking less so as soon as I'm done it'll be easier. The earliest he could get me in for my next appt was NEXT friday so almost 2wks away! I'll be calling EVERY morning to see if I can get one in earlier. I have my nut. appt this friday and then my DR said after I'm done w/ the shrink and nut. appts then she'll give me the referal! I'm somewhat hoping I gain a few lbs before I go in for my official weigh in. I HOPE and pray they let me get the surgery. He didn't believe me when I said I did my research.. And I told him flat out, I had a c-section to have my son.. This will be a cake walk!!! (the surgery anyway)

My mom has weight related sleep apnia.. would that work? And I think she has HIGH blood pressue.

I weighed 237 yesterday at the DR's office. For my height and bone structure my surgeon said that my ideal weight is 125 I have to weigh 250 to get approved by my insurance and we can not afford it otherwise. So, Do I pack on the 13lbs or do I pack up and go home and give up?
-
No, I don't. But if you're twice your ideal weight then they'll do it. It's either 100 and comorbid or 200% your weight. I'm 240sh and my "ideal" weight per my DR is 125.. So I need to be 250

Weights or huge HUGE Huge meal and weigh again? -
I have craft weights I was thinking of putting in my bra. I just don't want to get my husband in trouble for doing it. (We're military..) I could say I'm 5'1 but i don't know how much shorter I could say.

Tricare Approval or Denial??
Felisha replied to JamieNP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Okay.. Med frame weight for 5'2 is 118-132... My weight at the DRs today is 237.. That divided by 2 is 118.5... Making me meet the 200% by .5 lbs. Should I pack on about 10lbs JUST to be safe??? -
How did you make your final decision??
Felisha replied to mimirae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was tired. Tired of being fat. Tired of not fully living life. Tired of walking into a store and having such a SMALL selection of things to choose from. Tired of people seeing my weight and not seeing me. Tired of my husband (Who is 6'1 and 150lbs) doing all the work in bed.. Tired of not being able to keep up.. I've been big my whole life. And after having my son, I hit an all time high of 250lbs. It's sad to say, I weigh 100lbs more than my husband. I just had a baby 9mo ago, And I do NOT want my son to live the life I did. Be made fun of in school.. Not being able to run.. etc. That's what made me choose to get surgery. And I'm hoping to get approved by my insurance. -
Passed my 1 year point, beyond goal
