My husband just got new insurance through work -United Healthcare Illinois Choice. I am reading through the exclusions and it states that that Surgical and non-surgical treatment of obesity is not covered. Does that mean WLS is a treatment or does that mean something else. I know it is probably a stupid question. Just hoping it keeps a door open of WLS surgery.

I went to my primary care dr and they submitted to my PCP provider for a referal for the lap band surgery. They came back stated that I need 12 month supervised diet. I called and they told me that this can be by passed if my dr. thinks it is nessecary. Is this true. Not to sure what my Dr. submitted because they have never had to do this for anyone. At least that is what they told me. Can anyone help. Has anyone had problems with BCBS of IL HMO Thank you Amber

Hi, I am Amber from Elgin, Illinois. I am looking into getting the lap band surgery. I am going to my doctor on Thursday Nov. 9th to hopefully get a referral. I contacted my insurance BCBS of Illinois HMO and they stated that it is covered. Has anyone had trouble getting a referral from there primary care doctor? What about problems with the BCBS HMO. If any one could help I would appreciate it. I would like to get this done ASAP. Thank You Amber

Hi I am looking into getting the Lap Band. Not to sure how to go about it. I called my insurance and they stated that they do cover the surgery, but my Doctor has to approve and I have to get a referral from him. Is this complicated to do? I have set up an appointment with him for November 9th. How long does it usually take to get approved from your insurance? Hope someone can help. I have yet to tell anyone that I am going to do this. Thank you Amber
