After 25 years of struggling with numerous diet and weight loss programs, I was unable to keep any weight I lost from coming back. In 2006 I got as far as the surgeon's visit and two weeks away from a scheduled roux y surgery and at the request of my husband postponed it. I lost weight again only to gain it back when I had to resign  from my job to take care of my 85 year old mother after she broke her hip. We moved her from Oklahoma to live with us full time here in Michigan. She had numerous setbacks and hospitalizations. The stress was overwhelming. I knew I had to have help to lose my weight. That's when I decided to have lap-band surgery. I am taking much better care of myself now and my mother's condition has stabilized somewhat. She has recently been diagnosed with progressive dementia. I make time for myself now to walk everyday. I keep a food & exercise journal and I also use meditation and breathing techniques to De-stress. I am soo glad that this surgery has given me the opportunity to realize my "dream" of being a healthy participant in my own life!
