I'm working my way through the tests and I have a fair number of medical issues. So far: ekg, chest x-ray,stress test, endoscopy, and psych eval this friday.
I've had a surgeon visit and am working my way through the preliminary stuff. This hasn't been submitted to insurance yet. Had an endoscopy study last friday and got a green light.....Had a nuclear treadmill on monday....gasp gasp and got a green light there....have my psych eval friday......then they will submit....I am starting to feel hopeful.. The truth is more recently I had even given up on trying to diet......not that I was ever real successful. It had all just felt kind of discouraging.....Now I feel like this may be a real chance. I quit smoking 15 years ago (which is when the weight really started moving up) and that seemed easy compared to food because it was black and white you had none or you were still a smoker. Dieting meant choices and it wouldnt be long before I was making bad ones....I feel like this will be getting closer to the black and white if I use this as a tool and stick to the 3 meals and quit when I sense fullness......Am I just kidding myself or has it worked this way for some of you? (sorry for the long post)
Had my first visit with the surgeon today.....I live in a community of 85000 so there have not been tons of lap bands here...yet, but the surgeon I saw said he had done around 100. (Is that a pretty good number) He's had to remove one slip and no erosions. I'm having an endoscopy on friday to make sure my esophogus is in good shape (years of bad indijestion) have a pscychological eval on Monday and they are scheduling a treadmill with my cardiologist. I think they will make my submission to insurance when the psych eval is done. I'm excited and less nervous to get this on the road. Will keep you guys posted. I appreciate this site and the support. What a great bunch of people.....I don't feel alone in this.
I am pre band and have my first surgeons appt. next monday. I have quite a few health issues and take 8 pills a day. I don't see me going off any of them initially and some never. I have heart disease--two stents in my heart I will need my cholesterol and Bp meds and my aspirin for sure--Ive checked the posts and answers are all over the place. Some of these pills are coated and crushing wouldn't be the best idea. Aspirin is an irritant. So if its an empty pouch when I take the pills will they just slide right into the stomach? Another question--on an empty pouch will I be able to drink a glass of water as I do now. thanks peoples!
I think its a great idea to seek support from each other for prayer....God will honor our efforts in prayer. A separate forum would make it user friendly.
Getting right to the point: I have my first appt with surgeon in a couple of weeks. I have had chronic and hard to manage constipation problems for years. Currently I use 1 tbsp of metamucil once or twice a day. Once or twice every week I have to add in 1-2 docusate sodium caps also. I have to really stay on top of this or I get into big trouble. Can I manage this the same after being banded? Anyone else have this problem pre -band? thanks in advance
Hi everyone--I've been cruising around this site for a couple of weeks..Lots of great info and nice people.....I'm 51, a nurse, and a guy--doesn't seem like there are to many males here. I have my first appt. with surgeon in 2 weeks--will get the process started and check out my insurance--lap band has just been approved by BCBS in my state though I guess indidvidual policies vary--so we'll see. I'm kind of nervous about all this--it's hard for me to imagine my life with such a change in eating habits--I don't have much of a choice though if I want to go on living. The last couple of years the weight has really begun to affect how I feel and what I can do. I've got lots of questions so you'll probably see me around the forums....later
