    Anyone in education getting sleeved?

I'm also in education, a counselor, and am getting sleeved on July 18th. Counsellors and APs have to return July 29th which gives me 10 days to recoup. If I need to I will take the 29 the off and return August 1st. I'm also cash pay since our insurance doesn't cover any bariatric surgeries. My surgeon thinks I'll be able to return after two weeks if I keep up with the walking. I think it is better to have it done early in the year as opposed to later in the school year. Good luck! Pre-Op Diet

My pre-op diet is the same as yours. I start it Monday. I've come up with some ideas-hamburger patty with salad, grilled fish with asparagus, I was thinking of a rotisserie chicken with some sort of veggie. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  3. I'm also scheduled for July 18th and am really nervous. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  5. Hey fellow banders-- I got my band almost two years ago to the day. Lost 30 pounds at the beginning. Almost a year ago I had a complete unfill and have slowly started refilling it but have still not gotten down the proper eating habits. I need someone who has been successful with their band who can help me out. I have 4 ccs in a 10cc band. I currently feel pretty restricted. Not sure if it is the constant changes in weather tightening me up or what. If anyone is looking to mentor someone let me know. Thanks, Lisa
  6. Hey everyone! I've had my band for a year now, and after the past two months of struggling with it.. .I finally went to see the Dr. The x-ray techs were not in that day, but based on my symptoms (vomiting up everything for 2-4 days, then being able to eat a normal meal) the nurse thought I had a slip. So she removed all the liquid from my band. I believe I had 6.4 ccs in a 10 cc band. I could definitely feel the soreness at the top of my stomach for a day or two after the unfill. My question is this: People that have been in the same boat as me, what kind of diet did your doctor ask you to follow? I have the diet plan my dr recommended which seems strange to me in a sense. Week 1--liquids only, except high Protein Greek yogurt (that stuff is super thick!), no soft mushy stuff, no blended Soups... .weird Week 2-- mushies--chicken salad, tuna salad, scrambled eggs, etc Week 3--solids Just looking for some other input. I am currently still in week 1 with the liquid phase and am definitely eating blended soups, because its still thinner than the yogurt. Thanks, Lisa
  7. So, like most of you in Banders Hell, I'm am so sick of soup. But I'm trying. So tonight I took a can of fat free refried black beans, half a can of enchilada sauce, some chicken broth, a clove of garlic (pressed), a dash of cumin and a dash of cayenne. Whisk together and heat for a few minutes. Oh my word. It totally took care of my mexican food cravings.

    zucchini recipes ????

Zucchini Con Queso 1/2 a yellow onion diced 1 jalapeno seeded and chopped 3 zucchini or more depending on size velveeta sautee the onion diced zucchini and jalapeno in some olive oil. Mix some velveeta in once zucchini is tender. You kind of have to eyeball the amount of velveeta. It is so yummy. I've also made a meal out of it by adding cooked ground beef and rice.

    Having a hard time...

I felt the exact same way until I began getting fills. To be honest my dr didn't give me much on my first fill. I already had Fluid in my band and they extracted all of it to measure and then re-injected it plus added a tiny bit more. I started off with 4ccs in my band, they added .2cc at that time. I went back a week and a half ago for a fill and they gave me 1 full cc and holy mother, I have a huge difference. One thing that can be frustrating is that urge for immediacy. Remember, it is going to take time. Your body needed to heal. Now that it has healed you can start slowly restricting yourself until you get to the right spot. Don't lose hope. And don't let friends and family constantly asking you how much have you lost to get you down either. I dealt with that and had to explain that I was going to lose it all in one month. Hope this helps.

how hungry are you supposed to get?

I had a fill a week and a half ago and I'm only able to to get between 1/8-1/4 of a cup of food at a sitting. Until today I stuck with mushies and liquids. However, it only sustains me for 2 hours or so then I'm hungry again. I'm supposed to go in Wednesday for another fill, but I think I'm going to postpone that one. This was my first big fill--1cc--which puts me up to 5.2cc in a 10cc band. The gas pressure is killer right now. Uggh. But enjoying the weightloss!
  12. I have no idea how much is in my band. What's weird is my restriction isn't much. But I have been awoken at 2-3 in the morning the past two nights to vomit. This is many many many hours after I last ate, and of course it is the "sliming". YUCK! I wish I knew how much was in my band. I know I had 4cc to start with, and 4.2cc after the second fill. The lady who did my second fill didn't tell me and she seemed like she was in a hurry so I didn't ask. Please tell me that I won't be a ravenous animal if they take some out. I just don't want to vomit twice a day anymore. Lisa
  13. Due to allergies I had 3 days of PBing and sliming. Now I literally feel the band around my stomach. It feels tight. I am able to get about a 1/4 of a cup of food down. I tend to feel better with mushy foods as opposed to solids. Anybody else have this experience?
  14. So I posted earlier that I thought I was going to get an unfill today, but that wasn't the case. I currently have 5.2cc in a 10cc band. I did a barium swallow today and everything looked perfect. However, I still get this naseating saliva that makes me want to puke. It usually happens in the middle of the night. I figured its problem allergies, I live in Central Texas, and alas, allergies are king here. Does anyone have any tricks of the trade? How to combat mucus and drainage? How to get past the naseau? Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Strange Nausea

Okay gang. . .something weird is going on. I am almost two months post op, had my second fill on 6/23 and will have another next week. I'm able to easily eat a full cup of food at a sitting. So here is the strange problem: Yesterday morning I got up late, so I had a bowl of Special K for Breakfast with skim milk. Then I took my regular meds--blood pressure and anxiety with a few sips of Water. 10 minutes later I start to get the cold sweats and stand over the sink spitting copious amounts of saliva. Just like when you want to throw up and your mouth begins to water. I finally did throw up but just the sips of water that I took, not the breakfast. After that everything seemed fine. I had lunch, and dinner, no problems. I took a sleeping pill last night and woke up at 1:00 am with again a horrible bout of watering mouth and cold sweats. I spit out the saliva, burped a few times, and felt better. When I woke up last night it had been almost 5 hours since I last ate, so it wouldn't have been anything stuck. Any ideas? Lisa

    Breakfast ideas?

I usually have to change my breakfast up a lot so I don't eat the same things day after day. I usually can't ever feel sustained with cereal. What I have found that works are: yogurt parfait with fruit and granola cottage cheese and fruit Quaker Weight Control oatmeal (has Protein in it) I love making a breakfast taco with whole wheat tortilla, scrambled egg, and either bits of ham, potato, or refried Beans. Hope this helps!

I was also banded on May 18th and went back to work today. I am on full liquids for a week and then move to mushies for two weeks. Is anyone else starving at times? I was fine while I was home doing nothing, but today at work I was constantly having to drink milk, juice, tea, eat Soup, thinned out cream of wheat. . whatever I could.

Shoulder pain related to Vagus Nerve?

I was told that the nerves in your diaphragm which sit above your stomach seem to show pain in the left shoulder. It is just the way the brain interprets the pain.

What do you use for blending?

I had in the back of the cabinets a big blender. But I also love the magic bullet. I also have an immersable blender that I use to blend up a pot of soup.

    Let's talk nausea...

I had surgery 6 days ago and had no nausea at all. My doctor also gave me an anti nausea medicine before surgery and I woke up totally looped and really thirsty but no nausea. I am like you, I would rather run fever with body aches for a week than throw up even once. So far so good. No nausea at all. Haven't used any of the "suppositories" thank God. I hope you have a similar experience. It helps with recovery to not feel like your going to puke the entire time. Good Luck! Lisa

    Laughing feels weird

I just watched a special on Comedy Central and laughed for the first time since surgery (I'm 5 days post op) and boy did it feel weird. I had to start wondering if laughing could make the band slip out of place. I know that is completely ridiculous sounding but it feels weird to laugh. Any one else have a similar experience?
  22. Hello everyone! I was banded on May 18th and recovered quite easily from surgery. No nausea or trouble with the Clear Liquids. Gas has been horrible but I just keep moving and it helps. However, I finally started getting that gnawing hunger pain yesterday. So I took a shot glass and sipped a little bit of a Protein Shake to take the edge off. I know some people were allowed to start Protein Shakes earlier depending on the doctors. I hope this wont affect my recovery. I tried to keep it in seriously small doses but it took the hunger pains away.

    Liquid Pain Med

I was originally prescribed Lortab but got generic hydrocodone in liquid form. I used it more to help when sleeping as it was a bit uncomfortable at times. They gave me waaayyyyy too much! I have a huge bottle of this stuff now that I guess I will hold on to in case I break a foot or something. ha ha
  24. I just set up my initial counseling session to learn about the procedure. Can anyone tell me what the typical timeline is from start to finish? Such as: how long must you wait before actually having the surgery since insurance isn't an issue I will be paying out of pocket. What pre-op procedures are required. . obviously the basics like blood work and stuff, but are sleep studies? Upper GI's? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
