I start my pre-op diet a week out of my surgery. The reason for my pre-op diet (and most others) is to restrict sugar intake to reduced the size of the liver. This is for easier band placement, since the liver has to be lifted out of the way. Unless your doctor told you that you need a pre-op diet; one isn't necessary. My diet will consist of at least 64 oz of fluids a day, with only 20g of protein/day.
I found a great protein powder from Walgreens.com called Beneprotein (12.99/can), it is unflavored and you can add it to FUZE beverages. FUZE is 0 everything and can be found for super cheap at your local grocery store. I also plan eating non-flavored greek yogurt by Dannon (available at Walmart).
I hope this helps!

Hi Rae,
Are you able to tell me what you were given as a pre-op diet? My surgery date is 8/26/10, and my pre-op appt is only 9 days before the surgery...so I am thinking that I need to start some sort of pre-op diet plan 2-3 wks before right? I am also at 40% bmi right now, and am 36 yrs old this month. :-) Good luck to you, yours is right around the corner right?! Yipppeeee
