    Got my date!

5 more days for you! That's awesome! They called this morning, and my testing is Wednesday at 11- I'm kind-of freaking out, because it is at a hospital I have never been to. My anxiety really gets the best of me when I have to go somewhere new, by myself. I have tried to find someone to go with me, but everyone is working. I know I can do it- I just have to keep reminding myself of that fact!
  2. I am in Alabama- North east part of it. I am with you on the heat! Being this big, EVERYTHING sweats. Where I work, we don't have air conditioning, and we cook with big ovens, and kettles. On cornbread day, the temp has been known to get up to 115. I am miserable! Of course, I would be if I were smaller too, but not as bad. Man I hope I lose some boobs... Ha ha- Sorry... That just popped into my head. I am a large DD, and I actually fall out of that. It sucks!! A nice D, or C would be awesome!! :o)

Now, you know TMI about me!

    Any May 2010 Bandsters?

Right now, I use the "Whey Protein" from Wal-mart. It's good if you mix it with low fat milk. Water makes it horrible! The after taste isn't great, but that's what gum is for! Lol- Usually, I stay full for 4-5 hours after I drink it. Congratulations btw!

    How did you get fat?

I was always skinny growing up. When my sister got married, I started staying with her and her husband a lot. He got a good paying job, and their splurge was food. We ate out 8 and 9 times a weekend, at least. Midnight runs to Taco Hell was the norm. And so started my love of fast, fatty foods. I started out about 115, and ended up here at 240. My addiction to greasy burgers and fries is going to be hard to break. Of course, any addiction is! I'm ready!! ONE WEEK TILL I GET BANDED!!
  5. Yay! I'm so flippin excited. I started my own "Pre-op" type diet 2 weeks ago. I did a shake for breakfast and lunch, and then chicken and a salad or something for dinner. I stuck to it pretty well, but I did cheat a few times since I wasn't "Technically" on it yet. Starting tomorrow, I am on it for real. The one they have me on, isn't near as bad as the one I did myself. Just low carbs, high protein. I go grocery shopping Sat. morning, so I'm gonna stock up on stuff for now, and after the surgery. I can't wait to fit back into those "Skinny jeans" in the top of my closet!! :o)

    Any May 2010 Bandsters?

Just got my date- May 14!! Start my pre-op diet tomorrow! I would love to find a weight loss buddy that is getting their surgery the same day as me. Someone to text when I'm too sore to get up and on the computer!!

Average cost of a lap band

In Albertville, AL, (Surgical Associates of Marshall County) mine will cost $15,500 for everything during the first year. I financed through Care Credit, and my payments will be $370 a month for 5 years.

  10. Well, I hope if you decide to get the surgery, you have great sucsess with it. I have a friend that is about your height, (she's so cute! Lol) and was freaking out because she had gained 10lbs- She said that at that height, any added pounds show up. Let us know what you decide! Best of luck )
  11. I have to admit that probably 65% of my wanting to lose weight is attributed to wanting to look better. If I eventually make it my goal weight, and sustain it for a long enough period of time, I will definitely look into getting a tummy tuck and maybe a boobie lift. While heath concerns are a big part of my decision, when I think about the end, I don't think so much about being healthy- I think about looking and feeling better, and being more confident. However, that being said, I definitely get offended when someone makes a snide comment about my weight, or me having the surgery. I have dealt with quiet a few people that are rude as hell- They have had lots to do with my motivation to get the surgery. I want to get to looking better, so I can walk past them proudly, and know that they are eating their words. I would never say something to someone to intentionally hurt their feelings, but I am sure I have said things without thinking about it, that have bothered some people. The difference is, they have said and done things for the soul purpose of bringing me down (Like writing "Malysa is a pig" on the break table) I would never EVER do something like that. So yes, I am defensive. I try to get my point across in a nicer way, but I make sure they hear me loud and clear.

  14. Actually. I have been doing the 2 shakes a day thing. Then I'll have a piece of grilled chicken and maybe a salad for dinner. With the shakes I have been having (Whey Protein from Wal-Mart) it hasn't been that hard! I was really freaking out about it- Thinking I would be starving. But so far, it's been alright. I just eat an early dinner (around 5) and if I start getting hungry again after dinner, I just go to bed. It's still a bit hard, because I WANT to eat. But it's not from being hungry- Just out of habit. And as far as the 208 thing goes- Everything I have read has said you should be 100lbs over weight. I figure you'd have to be pretty short to have a recommended weight of 108- I didn't mean it's not heavy- Just that it's not THAT heavy. I got down to 200 once a few years ago and it felt awesome! I am 5'3, so it was far from fit, but better than the 240-245 I am now. No offense was intended.
  15. 208 isn't all that heavy. I'm unsure how you even qualify for it. I Can't wait until I'm down to that! Lol- I have yet to have my first appointment. I go Thursday, and can't wait. So far, pretty much everyone has had good things to say about it. They say it's hard, and that you will have good days and bad days. Also, the Lap Band is a tool. It's kind-of like a screw driver. You can put it up to a screw, but it's not going to turn itself. If you don't exercise and follow the diet, it's not going to work. I know it's going to be hard work. Some people have the preconceived notion that it's a miracle weight loss surgery, and the pounds are going to fall off. I'm quiet sure it's not going to be anything like that! Lol- Anyhow- Hope everything works good for you!! (And myself!!)
  16. Awesome advice! I would love to rid my house of temptations, but I live with 3 other people, and they wouldn't appreciate that very much. So far, I only get tempted when I make my husbands and sons dinner. If my husband gets home early, he will make it while I take a shower or go for a walk. Problem is, he only gets home early once in a blue moon :thumbup:/ Still though, I am doing pretty good. I've been on a pre-op type diet for 3 days now, and I am down 4lbs!! Thanks so much for all of your advice! (And I can't wait to "Blow" my husband away!) After 11 years of marriage, pulling the covers over his head after a "Toot" is a joy!!!! Lol-
  17. Did he have you do an all liquid diet, or just cut back? Right now, I am doing 2 "Whey Protein" shakes a day, and grilled chicken and a salad for dinner. I go the 6th for my first visit. Brian (finance guy) said that I would do all of my pre-op stuff that day. Like the seminar, and nutrition stuff. I am hoping since I have already started a pre-op diet, I can get the surgery done sooner. We'll see!!

  18. This is such an awesome thread!! Glad to know I am not the only one that has been dealing with donkeys! At first, I had planned on not telling many people about it. My mom, husband, and 2 managers. I only told my managers because 1 of them is my best friend, and the other is the one that has to approve my time off work. I didn't want anyone else at work knowing because they love to run off at the mouth. And, one of the guys wrote "Malysa is a pig" on the table in the break area. I really didn't want him knowing about it! (Jerk!!) I explained to my managers that I wasn't going to tell anyone about it, and they both promised to keep my secret. Well... One of them lied! He is dating a girl in the kitchen there, and of course, he told her, and she told the biggest mouth in there. Needless to say, pretty much everyone knows now. At first, it bothered me pretty bad, but then I decided that it didn't matter what any of them said behind my back, or thought about me and what I am doing. I am getting the band for me, so eff what they think!! So far, none of them have said too much about it except for reminding me how hard it is going to be- How sick I'll be- and how much loose skin I will have :scared2:/ One lady asked me why I didn't just push the plate away. I wanted to snap on her SO bad, but I was good, and didn't. I simply told her that if it was that easy, everyone would be skinny, and that she needed to think before she spoke. If she couldn't manage avoiding comments like that, then she need not speak to me! SO! Point is, no matter what you do, someone will have something negative to say. The thing to remember is that you aren't doing the surgery for anyone other than yourself. If someone doesn't support you, then politely ask them to keep their negativity to themselves!~
  19. I wish more people would reply to this- It has some very good questions, and I would love to hear some more people's advice!
  20. I have that same shirt, and it doesn't fit :)/ Hopefully, it will soon!! Looking good )
  21. Hey! I noticed that you were self pay with Dr. Groves- I am doing the same, and was wondering if he made you do ao pre-op diet- I know insurance paitents have to, but I don't know if the same will apply to self pay.

  22. Losing slow is still losing! It's like pennies... They may not be worth much alone, but they add up!! I am not using insurance- I have Care Credit, so basically, I am self pay. It is $15,500 for everything during the first year. I guess, since I only have a year to get everything done and going right, they hurry things along. They are supposed to do a private seminar, a "teaching class" (I'm assuming that's on what and how to eat) the financing, and seeing the doctor, all on the same day- Then they will schedule my surgery for a date with in 10 days of that day. Because I am not going through insurance, I don't know if I will have to do things the same. Regardless, I have been drinking 2 "whey Protein" shakes a day, and having a piece of grilled chicken and a salad for dinner. I figure I may as well get used to the shakes, and if I can't stick to it before the surgery, then I won't be able to after!! Thanks so much for answering my question!! I am super excited! Good luck to your husband!:scared2:
  23. Hey Andy- My name is Malysa- I notice that you post a lot about Dr. Britt and Groves- I am supposed to go May 6, for my first appointment with Dr. Groves. Brian (finance guy) said they would have me in surgery within 10 days of that visit. I know some doctors make you go on a pre-op diet. I was wanting to go ahead and start mine, but I don't know what he would want me to eat, or even if he makes his patients do one. I know you used Dr. Britt, but do you have any idea if Groves has his patients do one? Did Dr. Britt have you get on one? I am so excited, and want to get started asap! Thanks in advance if you have an answer for me. Congratulations on your progress so far!

  24. Hey Patricia- My name is Malysa- I have saw you in a lot of the threads talking about Dr. Groves- I am scheduled for my first visit with him May 6- They said I would have my surgery within 10 days of that visit. I was wanting to get a jump start on my pre-op diet, but I have no idea what he has you do, or even of he makes you do one. So, my question is did he have you do a pre-op diet, and if so, what exactly did he ask you to eat?

  25. I go May 6, to see Dr. Groves about getting the Lap Band. I was told I would have my surgery within 10 days of my first visit. I am so excited about it!! I was wanting to get a jump start on my pre-op diet, but I have no idea how (or even if) he does them. Did he have any of you on a pre-op diet??
