Complications after Sleeve Surgery
nene6569 replied to attitudefree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
HELLO JOY, MY NAME IS TYNISHA AND I ALSO EXPIERENCED A LEAK? SURGERY 1/20/11 AND DISCOVERED THE LEAK 8 DAYS POST-OP. DR. TOOK DRAIN OUT A WEEK AGO, ON REGULAR DIET, AND MY TPN IV INFUSI9ON WILL BE DONE 5/5/11. I FEEL FINE BUT I AM SO SCARED. I WANTED TO KNOW EXACTLY HOW DID IT TAKE YOUR LEAK TO HEAL? -
Well 5 days out I started to get tired with left shoulder pain. Then I started to get fever around 101. On day 8 my temp was 103 and I really didn't feel well. I went to the ER and my heart rate was irregular it was beating faster than normal. They took a ct and said I had pneumonia. My surgeon appeared the next day and said I had a leak. They drain 30 cc of pus fron the abcess that the leak made. Been home for almost 3 weeks still on tpn with a picc line and a drainage tube from my left side. I took an xray to look at the leak last wednesday and I still had the leak. The Dr. told me to try thick foods like mashed potatoes and yougart. I have but I am so sacred. I didn't see him this week, I see him next week. That just seems to far to find out what food is doing to the leak. I feel fine but then again i don't know what is going on inside. I spit all day. when i swallow my spit it makes me gag and feels like i have something in my thoat. I am miserable and i am very depressed and at this point can not see the postive in what ive done to myself.

I've been looking through the forum and have not found the answer to my question. HAs anyone expierenced losing too much weight from the VSG? I'm weighing between the band and the sleeve. With the band I feel I will have control over my weight loss, But with the VSG I'm scared I might not, even though it's probaly the best option for me. :confused1:

Thank you to everyone who replied to my concern. It was very informative and helpful. I've been looking through forums for around six months now, but just had the courage to talk. I'm a 34 year old female that is 4 foot 11, and weighs 230 lbs. I'm diabetic, insulin dependent for 15 yrsm, high blood pressue, and elevated cholesterol and an extreme case of GERD. So I really need the surgery. I am married but don't have the support of my husband about the surgery. He likes chunky women and feels I look fine. My personal goal is around 230 lbs. I like the curvy look but not the excess of weight or the health issues. So I know if I lose to much weight there will be added problems in the marriage with not a lot of support. And to add I don't want that sick look. So that's my story and why I have concern. Thanks again everyone, I just felt I needed to release that.
