  1. Wonderful post - thanks for sharing your journey. It sounds like you are on the right path and headed for good things. Let God lead and you'll be fine. Good for you for walking too - best thing to help you heal. Best wishes and keep in touch to let us know how you are doing.

  2. I echo what Bklynike has said. Overall, no complaints. My primary doctor did tell me of one of his patients who had the band surgery, but did not follow the guidelines. He was in the emergency room 5 times because he kept over eating and then it felt like he was having a heart attack. He is now having the band removed. It doesn't have to be that way though . .. the band is a tool, use it to help you and you can succeed. Good luck on your decision.

  3. I suggest a couple of things: Ask your doctor if you can take GasX (they make a dissolvable strip) and if so, pack some for the hospital and also walk, walk, walk, as soon and as often as you are allowed, it will help move out the gas. Be patient with yourself and give yourself time to heal. Follow the rules your doctor gives you. Blessings to you - hope all goes well.

  4. Hi Lovely, I had surgery on a Thursday and by Sunday still had not had a bowel movement. I was concerned about a possible blockage because of previous surgeries, so I called the surgeon on call (who was not my dr.), he had me take milk of mag., which I wish I would not have done (and later learned my doctor does not recommend), it did get me going . . .water movements for a day and 1/2. I think things will work out . . the nurse at my doctor's office told me it just takes a while for everything to "wake up" from the anesthetic. I used GasX for the gas pain and that along with walking, walking, walking, the pain left by about day 5. Good luck .. . keep us posted.

  5. My doctor says no pop . . . and honestly, I haven't missed it. I wondered how I would do because I often had a Vernor's in the evening when I had an upset stomach. I think now I had an upset stomach because I was eating too much because I haven't had that feeling at all since starting the pre op liquid diet. My understanding is that the pop can stretch out your pouch - yikes!

  6. Sounds like you are doing well. I tried to not use the pain medicine, but finally decided that was stupid. I used it for 5 days, which is longer than some people, but it's what I needed. I still used liquid Tylenol for a few more days after that. Give yourself time . . be sure to keep walking . . good luck!

  7. I am just ahead of you, I am 12 days post op. The gas does subside - are you using GasX? I found that very helpful. I still have "tenderness" , not pain, on my left side. When I saw the surgeon, he told me that's where my port is . . huh, I thought it was down by my belly button. Anyway, I've read some posts that say this can remain tender for a couple of months even. Sounds like you are doing well - keep up the good work.

  8. Best wishes to you . . . I was banded on July 15th and can honestly say that already I have less joint pain . .. I pray this will bring relief for you. It's a great journey, enjoy the ride.
