    Ahhh...the challenges of summer!

Hi, my understanding is that because the band will be tighter, the food will stay in the pouch longer and THAT will cause you to feel full longer . .. I haven't had a fill yet, so I hope I'm not steering you wrong, but this is what I understand . ..good luck!

I had surgery and some complications!

Hi Lovely, I had surgery on a Thursday and by Sunday still had not had a bowel movement. I was concerned about a possible blockage because of previous surgeries, so I called the surgeon on call (who was not my dr.), he had me take milk of mag., which I wish I would not have done (and later learned my doctor does not recommend), it did get me going . . .water movements for a day and 1/2. I think things will work out . . the nurse at my doctor's office told me it just takes a while for everything to "wake up" from the anesthetic. I used GasX for the gas pain and that along with walking, walking, walking, the pain left by about day 5. Good luck .. . keep us posted.

I would kill for a soda...

My doctor says no pop . . . and honestly, I haven't missed it. I wondered how I would do because I often had a Vernor's in the evening when I had an upset stomach. I think now I had an upset stomach because I was eating too much because I haven't had that feeling at all since starting the pre op liquid diet. My understanding is that the pop can stretch out your pouch - yikes!

    Day 2 Post Op

Sounds like you are doing well. I tried to not use the pain medicine, but finally decided that was stupid. I used it for 5 days, which is longer than some people, but it's what I needed. I still used liquid Tylenol for a few more days after that. Give yourself time . . be sure to keep walking . . good luck!

    Day 5 Post-OP

I am just ahead of you, I am 12 days post op. The gas does subside - are you using GasX? I found that very helpful. I still have "tenderness" , not pain, on my left side. When I saw the surgeon, he told me that's where my port is . . huh, I thought it was down by my belly button. Anyway, I've read some posts that say this can remain tender for a couple of months even. Sounds like you are doing well - keep up the good work.

    Month since surgery

Hi Seby, I haven't had a fill yet either, but have read lots of posts from other folks who say it's not bad. And Blondi just posted one saying that they give a "numbing' shot before the fill needle, that sounded reassuring to me. You will do fine . . follow the rules . .. and good luck!

    1st fill today

I haven't had my first fill yet, and I didn't know they did a numbing shot . .. thanks for sharing that, it puts me at rest a bit. How exciting to be in the 100's again soon . . .you go!!
  23. Hi Blondi, how are you doing? We had a great weekend . . .more active than I had been since surgery and it did tucker me out, but felt good too. I am off work yet this week, so want to work on restoring my stamina so those four (10) hour days next week won't kick my hiney too bad! I read your post about getting rid of bigger size clothes - good for you! What a good feeling. Have a great week. Rose

    insurance approval

I have a bluecross blue shield PPO. I started in December, had a few snags with tests that showed some oddities and required further testing, but was banded in July.... good luck. I actually was able to just call my insurance company with a form that I was given from the doctor's office. It had the diagnosis codes for obesity and the procedure codes for the lapband surgery and for fills needed later. I was able to ask them, "with this diagnosis, is this a covered procedure?". If the answer is yes, then it is a matter of getting all of the appointments your doctor (and hence the insurance) will require out of the way. It is tedious, but can be done.
