    Frustrated to tears

Sorry to hear about this setback. I am a firm believer in that which doesn't kill me only makes me stronger. Call the Dr's office and find out what really is going on. If you're okay with the explanation, carry on with the new surgery date. If you're still uncomfortable, move on to another. But don't cut your nose off to spite your face. Changing to another surgeon wil most likely cause you an even longer setback. Good Luck to you! And hey, being on that pre-op diet longer just means you'll have a pristine liver and hopefully gotten a jump start on your weight loss.

    Liquid Diet Struggle

I am on Day 8 of my 14 day pre-op diet. It stinks! It is SO not what we're used to. BUT, it is necessary to accomplish our goals. I was weak, had head aches, and thought I was going to pass out from starvation. But I made it through it and so will you. Be strong!!! I was amazed at how often I could curb my appetite by drinking lots of water. It's only a short term sacrifice for a lifelong goal. You can do it!
  3. How did the appt go today? I hope your weigh in went well. I'm still on the pre-op diet and it's been ok. But nothing much more exciting than that. I attended a support group meeting Monday night. My hubby went with me and I was so very happy about that. Then, I had the last of my pre-requirements, a nutrition class on Tuesday morning. I'm officially finished with everything but the surgery. Now the real fun begins. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. I've been trying to keep it low-key as there are A LOT of days between now and next Wednesday. My husband and I are camping this weekend and that should be a real test for me. But I know I can do it. I have to. I look forward to hearing back from you.
  4. How's it going today? I didn't have to lose a certain amount weight beforehand. Thank goodness. I lost about 10 lbs from Jan thru July. Then, I gained some back. But I can tell you if you haven't started your pre-op diet yet, you're bound to lose some then. I've lost almost 10 lbs since last Wed. Good Luck at your pre-op appts and I hope it all goes as planned. Please let me know. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
  5. LisaA, where are you in Southeast Ohio? I'm in Jackson and I'm having my surgery at Holzer WLS with Dr. Grandia. Just curious...
  6. Hi, Tsaleen! Welcome to the forum. I too am having my surgery on the 22nd. We have a lot on common. I'm actually 38, and I have a four year old daughter. I've been overweight all my life and never dreamed it would take me almost 4 years to conceive once I finally decided the time was right for a baby. It's a painful and very emotional situation. And I can empathize with you totally. I hope we can stay in touch throughout our respective journeys.... Good Luck to you.

    Stopping by to say hi

Congrats on the surgery! And welcome. I'm mostly a lurker too, but I do post every now and again. I've more active lately as I'm getting really close to my surgery date. I've waited and waited for nearly a year and I'm finally getting to it. Glad to hear from you and look forward to hearing about your progress.

    Surgery Date 9/20/10!!!!

    Newbie; start Unjury tomorrow

How'd it go? I hope well. Day two has been a little better for me. I'm still getting hunger pains and I'm thinking of calling my nutritionist to see if I can have something else. I can only have 2 shakes per day, but I could really use the 3rd. Otherwise, it's not so bad. We CAN do this!!!

    Pre-op tomorrow question

Bloodwork, chest x-ray, EKG, and pre-admit paperwork. Pretty easy...

    Here Come the Emotions...

It seems that I am going to be miserable no matter what I do. Would I rather be miserable about the way I look and enjoy food (but be unhealthy) or be miserable for lack of my food freedom but be smaller? I too have wrestled with these exact same thoughts. But then I get ahold of myself and I know that this is the right thing to do. It's not the easiest thing to do, but it's definitely the best. You just need to talk to yourself about it. Weigh out the options. Do it for yourself and not because of anyone else. Good Luck to you. Hang in there. The reward is so close and will be worth the wait.:blushing:

    Surgery Date 9/20/10!!!!

Amy, Mytrice, and Maxi---Congrats on the surgery dates. I'm right there with you on the 22nd. I started my pre-op diet today. It's not liquid, but very limited. I kind of wish it was all liquid. I think it would be easier. Day one wasn't too bad. If I could only kick this headache!!!

    Newbie; start Unjury tomorrow

How did everyone do on their first day of pre-op diet? My day is coming to a close, and it wasn't HORRIBLE but I did find it kind of HARD. I'm cooking up some broccoli and plan to have a big bowl (or 1 measured cup) of cottage cheese here in a few minutes. Yum!!!

    Newbie; start Unjury tomorrow

I started my pre-op diet today (Wednesday) and my surgery date is the 22nd. I hope we can all keep in touch, especially since our surgeries are all so close in date.

    upcoming doctors appt

Hi, Elizabeth! Congratulations and welcome! My first appt with my surgeon was pretty standard. He asked me a lot of medical history questions, and he described the Lap Band. He checked my vitals and inspected my belly (I guess for signs of hernia or something. I'm not really sure.) Then, he explained how the band works and how it would change my eating habits. He explained to me all of the risks associated with the procedure and especially the risks that come along with not following proper direction. That was pretty much all. I had a visit with the center's nutritionist the same day, so I really got more information from her, as far as the eating and everything. If you're new around here, you will find that there is ALOT of great information on here. Good Luck to you and God Bless!

    I've Got My Date

I started this whole journey almost a year ago. Insurance didn't cover so I was lucky enough to switch insurance plans in January to one that does cover the surgery. They required six months of diet documentation, which I finished up in the middle of July. The nutritionist at the WLS center has been giving me little tips along the way to help post-op, trying to get used to not drinking with meals, using a baby spoon and little plates at mealtime, chewing each bite for 2 minutes. Those little things have been kind of hard. I didn't think they would be, but when you're used to eating in the car and always on the go...Anyway, I found out today that my 2-week pre-opt diet is NOT all liquid. YAY!!! I was so not looking forward to that, but it will be for about 2 week post-op. My family and I are camping over the Labor Day weekend, so I'm going to enjoy the food. Then I'll start my pre-op diet on the 7th or 8th. I've spent the last couple of weeks, eating at my favorite restaurants just in case I can't partake post-op. Had a nice big, juicy steak the other night! But it really doesn't bother me. I've come to terms with this lifestyle change. And the end result of good health is so much more rewarding than a steak! Good Luck to you and I hope we can keep in touch. It's nice to "talk" with someone who is going through all of this at the same time.

    I've Got My Date

Congrats! I'm right there with you... my date is Spet 22nd. I'm meeting with my surgeon today for pre-op appt. This has been a really long journey for me so far (almost a year) and I'v been more anxious than nervous. But for some reason, I'm very nervous today. I guess because I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. How are you feeling being this close to surgery? What have you done to prepare? Are you on your pre-op diet yet?
  23. I've been working toward my surgery date for almost a year now. While I've discussed this change in my life with my husband, I've not talked about it at all with my parents. Since my surgery date is a month away, I thought this would be a good time to tell my parents. My dad, who is generally very supportive of my life decisions, laughed at me. He said if I would just cut back on my food intake, I could accomplish the same results. I was so shocked that I couldn't dispute a word. I just gave him the informational booklet and left. So here I sit and I am so disappointed that I can't stand it! I plan to talk about it some more tomorrow after I've calmed down a bit. Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so, what did you do?

    Are You Telling People?

Iive told only a few people. I've been open with my husband from the get-go. He was negative at first cause he thought I'd lose a bunch of weight then dump him casue he's overweight too. Once I reassured him that was not on my agenda, he's been very supportive. Then, I urged him to to get it too! (We're working on that.) I one of my good friends, who had it 2 years ago, and her mom and aunt (who is my daughter's babysitter.) She's overweight too, and all she could say was that her neice (my friend) has lost too much weight and looks sick and that I don't have that much weight to lose. I weigh nearly 300 lbs, what's she thinking?! While she's not what I'd call dead-set against it, she gave me the reaction I expect to hear from everyone else. "Oh, I don't think you need that. You don't look obese. You look great in your clothes. You don't want to lose too much weight. You don't want to look like you're sick, do you?" That's the reaction I DON'T want. I told my parents about the surgery last night. My mom had very little reaction at that time, and I think she'll understand as she's fought the battle of bulge for as long as I can remember. My dad, who is usually the supportive one, had some smart ass remark about shutting my mouth and exercising more. I was devastated. However, I did let him know that my mind is made up and I'd like him to be informed about what I'm doing, but his opinion will not affect my decision to have the surgery. I've not told anyone else at this point, and I'm not sure that I will rigth away. My supervisors and coworkers know I'm having "surgery" in Sept as we're making arrangements for my absence on the schedule. Otherwise, they have no idea. And I don't intend to tell them right now. Of course, they'll probably figure it out when I do my Pre-Op liquid diet. I'm really just playing it by ear right now.
  25. I have BCBS of WV. It's been a one year wait for me so far. But all insurances are different depending on your employer. So the best thing to do is call your insurance and find out for sure what's covered, what's not, and what pre-requisites they require. Good Luck to you, Bella Luna!
