After much personal deliberation, I attended the general surgery information seminar in September of 2009.  I knew right then and there that this is the solution for me.  I immediately made an appointment for my consulation with the surgeon for the first of October.  I was so excited that I'd finally made the decision to go for it!  Three days before my consultation, the office called to tell me that my insurance had denied the surgery and there was no appeal process, no anything.  My husband's employer specifically states in their insurance policy that bariatric surgery is NOT covered for anyone, for any reason.  I was absolutely crushed.  With no other alternatives, I cancelled the consultation.A few weeks later, I received a notice from my employer that it was that time of year to enroll in health insurance coverage.  I'd never taken my employer's coverage; I'd always been on my husband's, as the monthly premium is less expensive.  It hit me like a rock!  I did some in-depth investigating and found that while my husband's employer doesn't allow bariatric surgery, my employer does!  This was it--an answer to my prayers!  So I called up the doctor's office and set a consultation appointment for the first week in January-the quickest I would be covered by my new insurance.I had the consult on January 8, 2010 and was immediately found eligible for the surgery.  The weight loss center director informed me that my insurance had approved the surgery, with stipulations.  Stipulations?  I didn't care.  It was APPROVED!!!  Six months of monitoring with nutrition counseling, psychiatric evaluation, and attendance at two or more support group meetings.  No problem, I'm there.To date (June) I have completed all but the last visit of my requirements. The last 10 months have felt like a lifetime!  I'm anxious and excited start the next chapter in the story of my life.  This is where I am....
