Oct 07 Bandsters - how are you doing?
kygal replied to yankeerobin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too read these posts alot, but rarely chime in. I was banded October 4, and have lost 40 pounds. I just got my second fill, of 2ccs, and I think that I am almost there...at me sweet spot. I can't eat bready things, but can eat mostly anything else I want, and unfortunately, I could eat lots of it if I wanted to. I've been frustrated that I have only lost 40 pounds....and all of that in the beginning. I have not lost more than a pound in a month. Grrr. My next fill is Feb 6...so I'm hoping to get to my sweet spot then. Trying not to be frustrated. -
Hi all. I had my second fill today. Like many of you, I had almost no restriction with the first fill...I only noticed it when I ate ray celery or carrots. I am on liquids today and tomorrow, but I am thinking that I may be much more restricted, because I got 2cc's, and I can feel air bubbles when I drink even thin things like broth. I have lost 40 pounds since October 4 surgery date, but I have been stuck at this weight for about three weeks. I am ready to lose my second forty!!! I'm so glad to be restricted before Christmas....even though my husband thinks I'm crazy. He thinks I'm going to miss eating all the Christmas yummies. I'm so excited to lose more, I really think I'll be ok.:paranoid I would love to put up a ticker, but can't make it work....if anyone could PM me with instructions.

I have lost 37 pounds since surgery on 10/4. I do not have good restriction, but I'm trying to eat right...and follow the band rules. I'm hoping to lose 50 by Christmas!

I have not idea why things I typed showed up funny, with extra words and symbols. This has never happened before, please forgive me. -
JulieNYC's Lateral Thigh Lift and Brachioplasty
kygal replied to JulieNYC's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

Julie, I have just begun this journey, and I am sneaking up on 40 pounds, at two months out from my surgery. I want to loose about 100 more.

I just wanted to ask you this....do you feel like a thin person? Do you find that you are treated differently? What do you mean when you say your head is playing "fat girl tricks" on you?

You truly are beautiful on the outside, but more importantly, your willingness to share your story and to offer your support to others suggests that you are, and have always been, just as beautiful on the inside.
-
I have lost 35 pounds since being banded on 10/4....and I have had one fill. I do not hvae nay restriction though. Should I ask for another appointment, for another fill? My next one is not scheduled until January. Also, maybe someone knows how to get the ticker to show up on the bottom of my entry? I cut and paste the codes, but it never works. I'd like to have it here.

I was given my first fill today. It was easy, and almost painless, and I think that I will be much happier now, as I finally have restriction. I was banded October 3, and have lst 30 pounds, though I was stuck for about two weeks, without any loss.... I am on liquids for 2 days, then will try some solid food....I'm hoping to get good restricion. So far, so good.

:rolleyesI fgel like I can eat almost normally...I am probably eating one third of what I would have, pre-band, but I think if I chew well, I can eat as much as I want...I've lost 28 pounds, but I've been at 28 pounds for 10 days. I hope I'll do better when I have the fill. It bugs me that I can eat almost normally. Advice? Banded 10/4

I guess I am very lucky. After two weeks my doctor siad he wanted me to eat ONLY solid food, no Soup, no liquids with meals. I haven't figured out the ticker yet....I'm dowm 29 popunds sice Surgery on 10/4...and I feel great. I think you will feel better when you can have a few bites of the food you are fixing. I didn't cook much during my two weeks of liquid. My family had to fend for themselves, for the most part...but we were so busy with the end of the soccer season, I don't think they noticed. A couple of nights I made soup, and ate only the broth, with no sandwich, and that sort of thing. My children do not know...a decision I made for a variety of reasons. At this point, I am just eating small portions, so I don't think they will figure it out now.

Hi all! I went to my 2 week check up yesterday. I am down 24 pounds since before the surgery. My doctor said to eat solid foods ONLY now. And he siad that I must not drink one half hour before and one hour after eating, because it will enable me to eat too much..washing it down, he said. It is really nice to be able to eat some real food. The first night, I felt like I was totally normal, and ate a good sized meal, with no problem. It was a good sized meal given what I was used to....liquids and mushy...but compared to what I would have normally eaten...before the band, it was about 1/3 of a meal. Still, it sort of worried me, that I could eat that much. But this morning, I was only able to eat a piece of bacon, and two pites of a pancake. Same this everning, at dinner. About five small pites, and I feel full. I feel really good though, like I'm learning what to each, and how to eat it. I really feel like 24 pounds is a good start, and I'm optimistic. :clap2:

Ok guys. I ate about 10 or so ounces of potato Soup today. I am about twelve days out from my surgery...I don't feel any restriction. What's up? Is it possible that I wont feel much restriction until I'm filled? I feel like I've been bad...though my nutritionist said that I could be eating blenderized food now. Its the quantity I'm worried about. Am I eating too much? By the way I've lost about 26 pounds since the pro-op diet.

I was banded on Wednesday, by Dr. Olsafka, and I have learned that when they tell you you need to use a Fiber supplement, they mean it. :rolleyes Other than that, everything is great. I feel good, and I am happpy to report that I lost 15 pounds on the pre-op liquid diet. I guess that means I'm off to a good start. KYGAL

Hi all: I was banded yesterday too. I discovered that I lost 15 pounds on the liquid diet! I feel great today. My throat is a tiny bit sore, and I feel like I've done too many situps.....other than that, no problems. I'm sipping my morning cofee. I feel like I'm finally embarking on this great adventure! :whoo:

Carrot, I totally share all of your feelings...and I too can't keep my mind off of food....and find myself watching the food network more than ever. Damn Paula Deen!!! Curses to Emeril!!! One thing I did tonight that made me feel great...my neighbor asked me to come sit on the deck with her. She does not know about me being banded, so she went into the house, and came out and handed me a beer and two slices of Dominos Pizza! I declined both,,,,and came home to cook a chopped onion and a chopped carrot in some chicken broth. This is all of the veg I'm allowed in a day. I pretended it was a chinese won-ton Soup, without the dumplings. I must ahve been starving...it tasted soooo good. I ate nothing else today but a Slim Fast shake (low carb) and a cup of cottage cheese. My liver should be the size of a penny on surgery date! It sure is tough. Sending sympathy, support, and prayers your way!:clap2:

Ok, my diet is different too. I can have two low carb slimfast or other low carb drinks a day, plus 2 servings of vegetables, and 2 servings of cottage sheese, or sugar free yogurt or pudding. And, of course, all of the calorie free liquids I can drink. I have not been hungry at all, but I swear I have thought of food every ten seconds, and I am on day 3. My surgery is Oct 3. I may be chewing on my own arm by then. But I really think it is just psychological. I'm supposed to eat the veggies raw, but tonight, I boiled a chopped carrot and a chopped onion in my fat free chicken broth. It was great!!! ANd I don't feel bad about cooking the veggies. I pretended it was like a chinese Soup. How fast does the liver really shrink? Isn't that the purpose of this whole thing anyway? I can't believe it will shrink in a week, but my doctor says it will. I do great at work, but when I get home, I want to cook and eat! I'm doing ok with this becasue I'm afraid of the whole thing not working becasue the surgeon can't get past my liver. How do you keep your mind off food?

Busy, I received a letter from the company that does the insurance approvals for humana...its called "Active Health." I had it here for three days before I opened it, because I thought it was someone selling a prescription drug program, or something like that. I had no idea what it was. Even wierder, when I called Dr. Olsafka's office, they had not received a copy yet, so I faxed it to them, and they called back the next afternoon with a date. They wanted to de the pre-op the next day, the doctor visist the week after, and the surgery the week after that! I put it off by one week, to get some things wrapped up at work. Last week I went for the pre-op testing, which took most of the day, and my sugery is 10/3. A long anwer I know....but look for something from Active Health. I was suprised i did not have to appeal, because I do not have diabetes, or any significant weight related illnesses (yet).

I have heard that the 6 month diet has been dropped on some policies...I heard that from my doctors office. You would know I heard it on my last visit of the six month supervised dieting. I don't know if it applies to my policy or not...but it doesn't matter, as I've completed all six months anyway. Also, I had to see a pschologist ...now a dietician and I'm done. Then I start the waiting gain. KYGAL

No, I am using Dr. Olsafka, even though I have to pay the 4000 up front, becasue I did not know this until I was halfway through the certification process, and I liked him when I met him. I work with 2 people who have used geller, and they both are very very happy with the procedure, and have returned to work quickly.

Well, my psych eval took about 5 minutes. I suppose now I am just waiting on insurance. I am really hoping for september, not October....Its crazy that they make youw ait so long, but I think it has helped me get my head on straight, and mentally prepare myself.

I am hoping to be september, but may be october. -

PLaymate, I am going to my family doctor for that. He has to chart every calendar month that we have discussed my diet...apparently I've had the "last meal" syndrome....I've not lost. Then again, I've not gained, and many people do. according to my doctor. He was influential in my decision....I trust him, and he siad that if I were his sister or wife, he would encourage me to be banded. He never mentions my weight, so I appreciated his honesty when I asked about it. When doctors tell me I am overweight, I always want to search the room, as if he is talking to someone else, and say "Me? Are you kidding?" They act like you never realised you were fat...like shopping at Lane Bryant wasn't a clue...:omg::heh:
