  1. Hello all, I had my surgery on Friday May 7. Ins required a 23hr observation so I spent one night in the hospital and I am glad that I did. That morphine drip overnight was a God send. This pain medicine that I was sent home with just barely cuts it. I have to really stay on top if it and take a dose every 4 hrs. Since I have been home on Saturday I am pretty sore and tender all over my belly, and can see the swelling, I have 5 incisions. getting up and down out of the bed or couch is the hardest, it feels like it is pulling on my tummy. ouch! I was able to take a shower Sunday morning and remove the outer bandages, but left on the steri-strips. I will call this morning to make my post-op visit. I have been very thirsty since surgery but not hungary. Sunday was a family lunch for mother's day and it was hard seeing all that food! Everything just looked so good, I wanted a taste of everything, but I refrained and tried to sip on a protein drink and some broth, but it made me uncomfortable so I quit, went back to my water. I have had water by my side non-stop. Just now starting to pass some gas, and have been taking gasx, the gas pains have not been bad at all. I am ready for the soreness to go away, supposed to be back at work on Wed. Hmmm we will see.

  3. Dear AFmom, girl if I were you and felt ok, I would keep my mouth shut and still go! LOL Waited too long for this. HaHa  To all of you that had their surgeries already I hope that you all get to feeling better real soon. :bored: I had my pre-op appts yesterday and my surgery is tomorrow, I think I am #2 so will not have to be there quite so early, maybe around 8:30 or so. Can't wait! But I was told yesterday that I will have to stay overnight, my ins co requires a 24 hour observation. Bummer, I was hoping to get to come home same day! Would be easier on my son, he's 5 and has not spent many nights away from me. It will be hard on him. :glare:

    Straw

I went to my pre-op nutrition class yesterday and that is what they told us. No more straws. They said, might as well get used to not using them now. When using straws you swallow too much air for the new small stomach pouch.

    sorry to ask... but...

Hello Conservachick, looks like we are about on the same timeline, I started my liquid diet on 4/23 and surgery on 5/7, lets keep in touch! I too get hungary and have something off of my doctor's acceptable solid food pre-op list, but we can only do that once per day, and he would like us not to, but I normally have once per day a few slices of lean deli meat or a baked chicken breast. It normally satisfies me enough that I get past it. I am now 7 days into it and it is getting more manegeable I think, yesterday I did not drink all the shakes I took with me to work, that is a first!
  8. For those that have already been banded, how much time did ya'll take off work afterwards before going back to work? Or has ya'lls doctor told you to plan to take off x amount of days? Mine has not mentioned that yet. I go for my nutrition class on May 3, pre-op with Dr.Provost and pre-register at the hospital on May 5 and surgery on May 7.
  9. Thanks for the input! I am having my surgery on a Friday, but think that I will go ahead and request Monday and maybe Tuesday off too. :-)

    Any May 2010 Bandsters?

I go for my nutrition class on May 3, pre-op with Dr. Provost and pre-register at the hospital on May 5 and surgery on May 7. I am on the pre-op liquid diet now, drinking 3-4 Adkins shakes everyday. It is so hard cooking for the family and not having a bite of food. I have not had any full meals but have grabbed a few slices of shaved deli meat or a bite or two of baked chicken breast at least once a day. I did buy some low sodium, fat free chicken broth and sugar free jello last night to have in the evening, maybe that will help curb my craving to eat something else. :scared2: If anyone else has any other ideas that work for them please share.

    Any May 2010 Bandsters?

I just got my approval from Aetna yesterday and my surgery is set for May 7th. They denied me the first time too because my required 3 consecutive monthy Dr visits did not encompass 90 days, I had one on Jan 22, Feb 23 and March 22. So I had to do another one in April. Anyway, I have started my all liquid pre-op today and it is hard. I am a creature of habit and old habits are hard to break. I have to keep reminding myself I cannot eat! only drink! wow

    Any May 2010 Bandsters?

Hello, I am new to this forum, lots to see and read here. I just got my approval today from Aetna. My surgery is scheduled for May 7th with Dr. Provost in Denton, TX. I have to start my pre-op diet now, not really sure what I am supposed to be doing, trying to figure it out.
