    Today's the day!

Well awesome news ! Welcome to the loser's bench and keep us posted on your progress. Just keep moving and the uncomfortableness should work itself out. Just don't be afraid to use the pain meds. Or maybe if you have something for anxiety to help you rest, those help a bunch too.

Need to get serious about exercise, AGAIN.

I have to confess I have been a bad bad girl! I did not go on my mountain run. I chose to stay home with my hubby who has varying time off. Friday morning I did go into the gym with a trainer (my cousin) who walked me through all the weight machines. I am familiar with working out with weights and such but I was not sure how to ajust the new fangled machines lol. I did an hour total, by that night my legs felt so sore and my abdomen...OMG ......felt like I got kicked square in my mid tummy. Yesterday I was so sore that I just cleaned house. Today I felt better so I did yard work. Tomorrow is back to the gym for cardio and Tuesday will be back on the weight machines. Good job guys!
  7. Once I hit creamed soups I felt so much better, I think it was the all the cold drinks and jello that drove me nuts post op. The warm broth was nice but the creamed soups felt SOOO much more 'normal". Follow your eating plan though for safety reasons plus you will lose some serious weight those first couple weeks.
  8. Yay Kabin, I remember reading your posts after your initial denial. It is awesome that your insurance has had a change of policy and I am praying you will get your approval. You better run here to post when you get word!
  9. Well tomorrow I am 15 weeks out (I think) and I have been finding hair all over the house in random areas. I know it is mine because I have two boys and my hubby around here, and I am the only one with long stringy hair. I was trying to act like it was just coincidence but today as I was fixing it and I looked down at a comb I had used was full of a huge clump of hair. I then ran my hand down my hair and a bunch of long strings came right off. D*MNIT! I was hoping to dodge this bullet. I can't tell yet because I have a ton of hair but I remember after the birth of both of my boys that I lost quite a bit. I know it is lame but it kinda makes me wana cry.
  10. Thank you for still hanging out here and being a wealth of information and inspiration to everyone of all shapes and sizes. It really is a calling and I hope you know how much it really does help others. I appreciate your no nonsense "non sugar coated" posts and for keeping it real. You look wonderful and you have worked your sleeve like no other. Thank you and bless ya.

    Afraid I'm eating to much!

I am 4 months out and I have figured out I can eat around 8-9 oz of mushie sort of food like lasagna or bowls of thick soups with a bit of meat in them and veggies. If I am eating a purely protein item like chicken or beef I get full on around 5oz of it. Carbs and liquid consistency foods go down easier.
  12. I was browsing for some weight loss recipes from a trusted source. I found this on the Mayo Clinic website. It breaks down the nutritional value at the bottom of each recipe page. Quite a few sounded very delicious....or maybe I am hungry hehe. Mayo Clinc Recipes

    1st goal reached!

That is so awesome....way to go!
  15. I went through a period where I was taking two Prilosec a day and it still wasn't helping, I tried Nexium and nothing. I went to the doctor and he prescribed me a month of Dexilant which he said is twice as strong as the highest mg of Nexium. Once it got the acid under control (that happened very quickly) I took the medicine for a month but since I was getting ready to go out of town and I didn't want to risk not having the meds he gave me two more weeks. I came home ran out of the meds and have not taken a PPI in over three weeks now. He said it was one of the newest strongest PPI's. Maybe bring it up to your physician?
  16. My chin is on my chest, I am literally gawking. How your doctor can say that it is normal to be able to eat a half a medium pizza basically because you were distracted.....UHHH I don't think so. I don't have plication I just have the sleeve but I can barely get two slices of very small non thick crust pizza down. If it is a large slice of pizza I can get most of it down if it isn't too thick crusted and I feel like I eat more then a lot of sleevers. If I tried to get more then two small pieces down I would immediately feel that up in my neck. I went to Chili's yesterday and ate 4 bites of salad and about 6 tortilla chips and by the time my enchilada soup came I ate about 6 small bites of it and had to take the rest home because I felt like it was up in my chest (proof I ate too much of it). It really sounds like your plication restriction is not very good. You already know you are hungry and are making some bad choices but you shouldn't be able to overeat with that much quantity, it would be more likely with grazing and eating calories constantly. I think if you continue to feel like that you should see about getting a barium test or something to see how big your sleeve is and how much it can hold. Keep us posted.

    Proud of myself

I just have to say that these "little" victories is what it is all about, just us becoming more conscious of our choices and habits. You did wonderful even though I know it is not easy or pleasant at times. Your weight loss has been awesome so it is apparent that though you claim you had a couple slip ups, you are staying on track and working your sleeve. I wish you the best! Big hugs.
  18. Patrick, welcome to the forum! Congrats on starting your research. Keep us posted on your journey I just wanted to give you a quick hello shout out.
  19. I love pinto Beans, they are a low fat meal and have a decent amount of Protein. Plus they taste great on a winter day! I like to make them the day before I plan on eating them, the tastes just seem to marry overnight. 4 cans of pinto beans (I like to buy sun vista or any other mexican food brand) 1/4 of a small white onion diced 1 small clove of garlic minced garlic salt to taste Take your diced onion and garlic and pour a tiny bit of juice from one of the cans of pinto beans into your cooking pan. Sweat them on low for two or three minutes getting them nice and soft. Pour in all the beans and juice from the cans. Cover pan with lid and cook low and slow for 45 minutes. I add garlic salt while cooking usually about two teaspoons. When in a hurry i have cooked a smaller batch on a bit higher of heat for 20 minutes or so and it worked fine for a meal. After the cook I will have a small bowl and put the rest in the fridge and reheat the next day. They taste even better then. Lightly brown a couple corn tortillas in a grease free cast Iron skillet and serve up on the side.

    2 months after sleeve

Heck ya that is good! I have two months on you and I have only lost around 41 pounds and I have only lost 3 pounds the last 5 weeks. Those were my fault though, I have been a lazy butt. You are doing great, I know that almost 40 pounds makes a huge difference. I grabbed a pair of dress slacks from my closet today because I was going to go apply for a part time job at a local school and I had not had my dress pants on since last February when I resigned from my county job. HOLY COW those things slipped off my waist and were down around mid thigh, if I didnt have such booty it would have fallen straight down to my ankles. My husband was like DAMN those kinda don't fit huh? YA THINK?

Need to get serious about exercise, AGAIN.

Yay Tiffy, new babies! Good samaritan you are. I too did not work out today but that is because I am lame...no really lol I am doing my six mile mountain trek tomorrow and I wanted to be fresh. Plus I just plain wanted to get some stuff done around the house. Good job all of you that did something for yourself and others today!
  22. I too had some major post surgical blues, mood swings, fits of psychosis whatever you want to call them lol. I was tired and up in down in my moods for about the first 12 weeks. I have noticed the last week has been the best one as far as my mental stability is concerned.

    Tell my boss?

I stopped getting notifications last week sometime and was kinda digging it but last night suddenly around midnight or so my cell phone started buzzing non-stop for an hour and all the notifications I had not gotten the last 6 days poured in. I had to finally put my cell on silent to get some sleep. I went in today and changed my settings to no longer get the notifications emailed to me. My email is a lot less cluttered up with it not coming in! hehe. Buchanan: i can totally understand why you want to avoid talking about where it is being done. I only told a handful of people where I was going to get it done period. Most of those were family and I dreaded telling a couple of them where it was at so if they didn't ask i didnt tell until we came back. HEHE. Then my mom who went with me and is an RN has been the first to tell them how impressed she was with the facility and the doctors. But yes I didn't want to have to justify my actions to anyone. I felt like I had done my research and they were not going to change my mind either way. Best wishes.
  24. I pulled up a couple of EDD documents, basically it reads that a physician has to be duly authorized and licensed and it talked about for elective disability plans the employers could request verification of forein doctors licensing. So it sounds to me that as long as it is a licensed physician who fills out and certifies the procedure, the disability, the duration and the CPT code it would be acceptable. Here is the link to the guide for the physicians, it lists which doctors can fill out the paperwork it just says licensed it doesn't say it had to be an american license etc: PDF form • File a certificate of disability signed by a duly authorized medical or religious practitioner.

    Who's Had a Tear?

Yup shooting pain not good better to be safe then sorry. On the sinus infection note though, have you ever tried nasal washing? My son has battled allergies since he was an infant and was on a ton of prescription meds since age of two and finally when I switched his pediatrician to someone closer he was adamant that the best way for him to clear up sinus issues and get relief was to do daily nasal washing. There is the Netti Pot out there but his doc suggested Neil Med nose wash system you can pick it up at Walgreens and other pharmacy type stores with the solution packets. The kid was getting a sinus infection every two months or so and since he has started on the washing he has only needed an antibiotics 2 times in 3 years. I wish I had known this for the first 9 years of his life. It is amazing. So the last time I started getting a really bad sinus thing going on, I picked one up for me and it immediately soothed and opened up the passages and washing out all the icky. I used it about 5 weeks post op and got some relief until things cleared up. Just thought I would share as it is that time of the year and it has been a miracle worker. Simple yet affective!
