    Went for surgery on 6/25

UPDATE!::: I just received a copy of my anesthesia report from UCLA when I had surgery a couple years ago and low-and-behold. I was given Midazolam for nerves before that surgery. Actually i was given the exact same dosage that the anesthesiologist on this incident states she gave me...I tolerated it beautifully, I knew I had something for nerves before they wheeled me down the hall for surgery and it had made me feel really lose and floaty. I had no idea what they had given me and now I know. So I am 99% certain now that it was in fact a paralytic I was given by mistake ..just like quite a few medically trained folks here pointed out. I wish I had some recourse, the PTSD sucks. Though I do feel better now about having surgery again in August. I am taking this report so the doc can use it as a guideline if it is compatible. time to move forward!
  7. I have been contemplating this for a couple days and decided now that I am less emotional to get this off my chest. I feel very let down by the lack of response I got when I related my near death experience having the sleeve. My post was entitled went for surgery 6/25 I got three whole responses to my thread. Three whole people were empathetic and caring enough to offer kind words and prayers. Yet someone can post they just had surgery and get fifteen well wishes. It is almost like noone wants to hear the bad stuff or complications. I think my account of what happened was very honest and did not place blame on anyone just accounted the facts of me almost dying on the bed in front of my mother before I even headed back to surgery. I am sorry if you think it is pathetic that I would care to hear from all the people I have come to use as information and inspiration in choosing to have this surgery. I had higher expectations but I guess that is my own fault. Maybe I am just a mess after the experience I guess time will tell.
  8. :rolleyes:I have decided to go through with having the sleeve surgery, despite my first attempt. I am going to a different doctor at a different facility. I am having and EKG and stress test here in the states first to clear me. The facility that I am going to is aware that I had complications and are going to come up with a plan that will give both them and myself peace of mind that I will come through successfully. I feel that I need to do this for several reasons, one being that I can't live in fear of surgery, two because I am stubborn and want to kick that crappy memory in the butt, and three because I have been assured by my doctor (whom I have a long history with) that there should be no reason for me not to do well, four because I think what happened was bull sh*t and I don't believe the anesthesiologist was forthcoming with me about what medication I was given. Last but not least I WANT A SLEEVE DANGIT! It looks like surgery will probably be next month after my children start back to school and it will give me a little over a month to recover before I head out of state to visit relatives for a two week vaca. So for those who were rooting for me. I appreciate it.
  9. Congrats on the call, that is wonderful news. It is normal to feel scared, excited, leery and just about any emotion under the sun. Just make a list of pros vs cons and I think you will end up with a smile on your face. Don't forget to add the fact that your insurance is covering it to your pro list, there are so many people here that don't have that option or like myself I have the coverage but I don't meet medical need requirements.

    Went for surgery on 6/25

Wow Jeanie it sucks not being able to breath it is such a scary feeling. I remember the point where I was getting a tiny bit of air when they stopped bagging me and I thought damn I am going to pass out again! I also do not handle morphine very well. I learned that from a surgery I had a couple years ago. I have to have half the normal dose and they have to give it to me with some anti nausea meds. I am so glad your ok and wish you the best on your sleeve surgery.

    My Journey (Finally)

I am glad your recovering and made it past the horrible reactions you were suffering. It is a good thing you can handle the morphine they shot ya with because that is the one thing I do know from a past surgery. Morphine is not tolerated so well by me. I get dizzy and nauseated all alone from it. I was praying through the middle of reading your post you werent going to tell us that they gave you morphine for the pain and suddenly it was even worse nausea lol. Keep us posted on how your progressing and welcome home.

    Went for surgery on 6/25

I went to my doctor today who immediately rejected the theory that my reaction was from the drug midazolam, he like you very astute medical personnel, feel fairly certain it was a paralytic. So what do I do now? Calling counselor monday for sure and trying to decide if I'm ready to try surgery again.

Your weight loss is amazing being a lower BMI'er I am hoping for same thing, if I go forward that is. Anyways, your mom is going to flip too. I wish I could see that. YAY!
  18. Woah, how did the Dr. suddenly become suspected of paying off drug lords to guard his business...OMG I am actually laughing so hard I snorted!

    I'm SCARED to eat!!!

You can puree cans of soup right...like a chicken noodle or chicken and rice? Minestrone pureed might taste yummy. I think someone mentioned egg flower soup (chinese rest. make good ones).

    G*DD^mnit *&$@%+!!!!!

Well SH*T, that just sucks. No wonder you were all over the place with your emotions that pre-op diet alone is enough to do it, then to have the rug pulled out from under you is just jank (my 10 year old taught me that). hehe. You have done a good job at talking yourself down though by listing the positives. Take your medications...heal it up and have a great surgery!

    Advanced Directive

Very, Very informative direction! I bet I can print one out online and take it to be notarized. I directed the staff and my mother that if something happened during my surgery in Mexico that if something came up to first try to get me stable then get me to San Diego asap but I guess once I was there I would need an AD. Wow, never thought about it and I came close to needing it.

    Complications after Sleeve Surgery

Teri, what a scary miracle. Your post is an eye opener. I never thought dehydration could do such damage post op, but it makes sense. Best wishes on your continued recovery.
  24. I am so happy you had a great surgery and are in the recovery stage. I am always confident that when someone is using Dr. Aceves they will come back with great things to report. I am thinking of using him if I decide to give the sleeve a second try.
