  1. I think it would benefit you from stopping the pot smoking as soon as possible for the sake of the surgery process. I also believe that smoking weed and otherwise constricts blood flow and could possibly hinder the healing process. This was brought up before and I think you might find some people that actually smoked weed post op and you could hit them up on how it worked out for them. My thoughts are if they make people stop smoking cig's before surgery for safety purposes that would probably include weed smoking http://verticalsleevetalk.com/pre-operation-vertical-sleeve-surgery-vsg-questions-answers/5691-unfourtunatly-bit-controversial-but-thoughts-consuming-marijuana-psop.html

    Did everyone get a card?

Ohh glad I am not the only one! I don't do buffets generally speaking because of this same reason. GAG. I don't mind pizza buffets (can't do those anymore huh lol) and there is one chinese buffet that my hubby LOVES so I would only agree to go RIGHT when they opened so the food was fresh and nobody had been digging with the utensils and putting their nasty faces up under things, coughing and other gross crap. Sorry went on a tangent lol. I do feel strongly about those things huh?

    Is my mom jealous :(

Joy what surgeon did you decide on? You mentioned in your post that your insurance just started covering it. Do you think you might be able to qualify and have it covered? My insurance covers the procedure but I didn't meet the requirements. I wish I could have saved the money and had them pay for all or part of it, but I understand their medical necessity rules.

    alcohol?

Well put! I have been craving some sort of rum drink. I have a while to wait until I can have some but it has been on my mind! Normally I am just a tequila shot taker (Patron Silver!) but I do like to order the Tropical Mai Tai from Red Robin and those have been sounding DELICIOUS! :confused1:
  5. I had a tummy tuck at UCLA and received great care. They are expensive though. Even though I had a really good experience in Mexico, I just don't know that I would want to go back for surgery again. It just was stressfull to me being that far away from home. It was mentally taxing. The only thing I could see myself wanting after surgery is some boobs if mine end up like flap jacks and I am pretty certain they just might.
  6. Someone had pointed out on your thread, I think, that it might be a bit of dumping syndrome. I had been wondering that. I think it may be a slight case of that now that I am eating semi normally. I am going to see how it plays out before I consult doc to find out if I need to see a nutritionalist.:confused1:

    meat... yuck!!!!!!

I don't know much about being a vegetarian, we own a dairy farm, third generation. I would get laughed off the table if I tried to throw that idea out there lol. However I respect anyone's way of eating as long as they don't make it a moral issue. I do know they have some great recipes here that are vegetarian Vegetarian Main Dishe Recipes - Allrecipes.com you may be able to get ideas you would not normally think of from it. Are you going to be a modified vegetarian eater (some chicken and fish)?

    where are the heavyweights?

I read this thread last night and was so pleasantly surprised at the positive comments everyone was making about people with low BMI's. I thought I might not want to read it as it would be a low BMI bashing thread lol. I know I know I should have more faith in you wonderful people by now! So congratulations to those who are getting the surgery and wonderful job to those who had it and have used it to reach amazing goals.

    Any Novembers yet?

The doctor's place a drain tube under the skin in the abdomen through one of the ports used for surgery, so any fluid/blood can exit the body. My doctor removed mine on day 3, I think as long as your not draining a ton of Fluid they can remove it rather quickly. The rest of the fluid then is absorbed by your body. I had one on each side of my stomach when I had a tummy tuck. I got those out around day 7. :biggrin2:
  11. Nothing like that selvester it was just uncomfortable, the pain was more bothersome then painful if that makes sense.

    Introduction

Welcome and congratulations on doing your research and trying to make informed decisions. I too decided that even with my lower BMI I was ready to lose this weight and actually have the tools to keep it off. My bmi is close to yours so I can feel ya. There are some really great people on this site that have tons of advice and solid information/references. So ask away.
  13. YAy and congrats on a smooth surgery and welcome to the bench. The gas pains, the difficulty drinking and all that go away and rather quickly. I felt much better around day 10 but each day before that was better and better. I can gulp down drinks when thirsty now and my tummy has settled and now it is a trial and error thing on each new phase of the dieting. Just keep moving around and getting your liquids, it will all work itself out.

Foods you used to love but now hate

I was a Pepsiholic...straight Pepsi none of that diet crap. I would have about 4 cans a day. I tried a drink the other day. NASTY. I did sip a few sips of my sons Sierra Mist and that isn't too bad and I previously did not like that stuff. Oh and I was an iced vanilla coffe addict (McDonalds) and I have had no desire to try that...it doesn't even sound good. Chinese food....not working for me. I just tried a few bites of chowmien from Panda express yesterday and chewed it up really really good...it just did not go down well. I think that it will be a no go. Broccoli is my fave veggie and THANK god it still tastes wonderful and goes and stays down fine. I have been having it daily (I love those zip and steam pouches from Ziplock!) Oh and avocado has been my second best friend. LOVE EM It is still early on in my game...I am just sampling right now but I am sure more will turn up.
  15. Glad you are on the mend. 20 pounds in two and half weeks is a great number and I think you are a low BMI'er like myself so that is even better. I lost 15 pounds the first two weeks and I was excited. I think I have lost 2 more pounds this week but I am only doing official weigh in's every other week so I will update my ticker at that time. I have another 40 or so pounds to lose but two pounds a week is healthy and it will probably be better for sagginess etc to lose slow. It took me a couple years to initially put this weight on. We can't expect to lose 50 pounds in two months like heavier folks. But it seems it takes us all about the same 7 months or so to be pretty close to goal, from what I have seen. Who did your surgery and how are they responding to all your complications and the follow up you have needed at home?
  16. Those are amazing! You have shrunk a bunch congrats!

    Good News

Maddie I am so thankful that you do not have to go back in for surgery and that it is something that is treatable with some meds. You have been through so much with your recovery you deserve a break. Continued thoughts and prayers.
  18. I could see it if you work in a job that you dont have access to eat when you need to, that is the thing I am adjusting to at this point because when my stomach says eat...i better eat the hunger pains are stabbing. If you work at a factory job or somewhere that break and rest periods are not as reliable as they should be then I could see taking off that long to adjust and get body strong if not I would say 4 weeks would be a reasonable time off. Of course what your doctor is willing to do is between you and them. :thumbup1:

    1st post op visit

LOL I beg to differ removal of that drain was one of the most uncomfortable and painful things I have ever experienced. I am not a chicken and have a high pain tolerance but I told my mom after the doctor left the room that if I was the sort of person that would scream in pain, that is the time I would have done so. I could feel it pulling on tissue that was wrapped around it and it was sort of wound up in there...GAG i could puke right now thinking about it. I just sort of grunted and bit back during it. I NEVER want anything like that in my body again if I can help it.:thumbup1:

    now there's a side-effect I didn't expect!!

I keep watching Bully Beatdown on MTV. MMA fighter and the host of the show..Jason "Mayhem" Miller....YUMMMY Im a sucker for a guy with dimples anyways. He is nuts and he has an amazing amount of energy. :thumbup1:
  21. I am dreading this side effect. If there is one thing I have always had going for me it was my hair and I just grew it out to the middle of my back. I lost a ton of hair after the birth of both of my boys, but my youngest is 9 so the hair has recovered. I really really really hope that I dodge this but I am thinking if I lost it so bad after giving birth and losing the baby weight that it will be the same for this. GRRRR
  22. I am glad to hear you are feeling better emotionally. It feels so great to get out and to be doing "normal" things doesn't it. Funny you mention chinese food, I have been thinking about the orange chicken from Panda Express lol. My hubby and son brought some home one night and I sat at the kitchen table eating my cream of chicken Soup smelling that yumminess! It sucked at bit. Muscle milk rocks though, those are by far the best tasting Protein drinks I have tried. Keep up good work glad to hear the lightness in your words!
  23. I am 19 days post op and I wanted to start walking on the treadmill at the gym. I emailed contact at Dr. office and she responded I had to wait till week 4. I know every surgeon differs on the post op recovery. When did your docs consider it safe? Just curious.
  24. My husband will cross his fingers that I end up with this sort of side effect. LOL
