Two weeks post-op enjoying hamburger
mp8btpc replied to Big_Mike's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Now Mr. Mike, Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it. The post ops are important in the healing of your stomach. It is also the time to get a grip on starting good habits. Your stomach was severed into two pieces 14 days ago and is being held together to prevent leaking by staples and possibly sutures....lets think about this. Do you think a hamburger is the food it needs to have shoved into it at this point? Im thinking that's a fat NO. -
Well hold on to your britches girl,,,youll get lots of response on that question. There are several threads dedicated to just that doctor. http://verticalsleevetalk.com/vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy-vsg-surgeons-hospitals/1334-dr-mario-alberto-almanza-reyes.html http://verticalsleevetalk.com/vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy-vsg-surgeons-hospitals/7618-dr-almanza-tijuana-mexico.html

50 + pounds question
mp8btpc replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people actually have a few pounds gained from the surgical fluids and such. So 8 pounds is still a good amount. You are losing and that is what counts. Just get the fluids and your protein and you can't go wrong. -
First let me say that I have noticed that I get more hungry late in the evening. I don't know if it is because my Prilosec has ran its course from the morning dose or if it is just because I had been eating so little that it catches up with me late in evening. Secondly I ran out of the Prilosec yesterday and did not have a dose today (i forgot to pick it up today) and today I feel really hungry. Though when I write it down it doesn't look like that much. This morning I had a half a Breakfast sandwich with cheese, couple scrambled eggs and a slice of deli ham. I drank some oj after that. I had a slice of bread with Peanut Butter for lunch. Then at 3:00 I got a bean burrito from taco bell and ate half of it rather quickly but wasn't sure if I felt full. It has been two hours and I just got the other half out of micro to eat the rest of it. I am not sure if it is acid hunger, possibly PMS (i get ravenous usually) or what. Am I jacking myself up? At one month should I be able to eat that much? WTh:cursing: I need to get to the store to get some more fresh veggies and other high Protein items. I will do that tomorrow. But I was surprised at the amount of that burrito I could fit. Any thoughts? I am seriously concerned.

Concerned over my eating
mp8btpc replied to mp8btpc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is the first day I allowed myself the simple carbs. I will make sure I track my food on the comp, I don't want to cut out carbs to lose but I know the protein needs to be eaten first, I am still adjusting I guess. I am just concerned that my pouch is huge or something and I'm gonna end up failing after all I went through. On the bright side I get to start at the gym tomorrow! I will get to store tomorrow and pump up the ready protein foods. I'm bummed sorta that my tummy holds so much this early on. -
That is a wonderful achievement!

Carrie, I am so sorry you went through this. As someone who experienced something horrible pre-op I can tell you the PTSD is horrible and I still try to keep my thoughts away from that horrible day when I was given the wrong medication and stopped breathing. I can't imagine what it would be like to not have the absolute love and support from my husband. Believe me my husband thought I was nuts to have this surgery and was in no way FOR IT, but he was FOR ME and in my corner so anything I want or need or if I just need to complain he supports me, even if i did it to MYSELF. I think right now that if you had the support and comfort you needed from those you love and that you give so much to you would be feeling a whole lot better. You may not be happy about having the sleeve after you expressed changing your mind in the OR but you would know that things will get better, they will return to a normalized state.... all that will be changing is the amount you eat. I am a month out I just ate a half a bean burrito from taco bell. I feel full and I feel like I ate something delicious. I don't want you to think that you will feel physically how you are feeling right now forever. I hope you stay around and let us inspire and encourage you. I know that not everyone who goes through with this is going to be singing its praises ...especially straight off the bat but I am pretty sure that once you feel more like yourself again you wont resent it as much as you are now. I feel it sounds like there are even bigger issues to be tackled within your support system and I wish you the best.

PreOp Diet tips or encouragement
mp8btpc replied to iegal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanted to give some encouragement because I remember being so scared thinking in the middle of my pre-op diet that if I couldn't handle the prep-op diet how the heck was I going to do post-op and I can say the post op dieting has been a lot easier on my mind. First off I was not nearly as hungry and just the recovery process made it easier to sort of forget about the food cravings. It was more like I just was excited with each new food I could eat. So don't despair just get through this and you will be getting your sleeve and moving forward with your goals! -
back from Mexicali (sorry...long!)
mp8btpc replied to shrinkinggrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shrink, Sorry for the rough start I know it is unnerving either way to be going for surgery in a foreign country then the added stress always makes it feel even more foreign. I am glad your home and in your own space and whatever you are feeling right now will get better by leaps and bounds very soon. Your going to do great just take it day by day and realize that everyone has the ups and downs....the scale downs will make it all worth it and things will normalize! -
HOLY CRAPBALLS 2 months! That is amazing and congrats.

I take the OTC Prilosec but I have noticed I get hungry by the end of the day (bet it has wore off by then) and today I ran out of the meds and forgot to pick some up and noticed I have felt hungry all day long. I bet it will feel better when I get the prilosec tomorrow and take it.

Half Way Point 105 Pounds Down
mp8btpc replied to lbourgeoisjr's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
OMG I am so jealous...first off congrats on a job well done, secondly I loved the show Big Medicine with your doctor in it. I wish it still came on they both seemed so caring but no nonsense about their opinions on obesity and the need for surgical intervention. It was actually when I saw an episode where the daughter who was only 60 or so pounds overweight had lap band surgery that I ever considered the thought that I might actually be able to find a doctor willing to do it and that it would be safe. I ended up with the VSG but still. :thumbup1: -

mp8btpc replied to Barbie_70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had same problem, it seemed my stool consistency followed the consistency of the current diet. Once I moved on to mushies it followed suit now that I am eating pretty normally it is back to normal. -

I had my normal period the week before surgery and two days after I came home from surgery I started my period again..it was really light bleeding and lasted about 5 days but I never never have intermittent bleeding. It was strange but when I googled period after surgery it appears quite common for the cycle to get thrown off after anesthesia. Also birth control is affected by antibiotics so it would be a good idea to use back up birth control after surgery for a couple of months I would guess.

Oh the dreaded phentermine! I used the medication several times to lose weight....yes it works huh, but damn if I didnt turn into a raging B*tch (ask the hubby and kids). I also am convinced it totally jacked up the already shakey metabolism. The minute you stop using it...whamo here comes the pounds. Just thinking about that medication makes me grouchy hehe.

Cant wait for cataclysm either! We already pre-ordered our copies from Game Stop. I was at Disneyland last spring and some teenagers were walking around with Horde Shirts. I wanted to give them 5 but I thought ....look at me the old woman gamer hehe

Yes welcome. I am in same boat I was researching the lap band and had never even heard of VSG but while on the sister site, Lapband Talk , people were talking about the sleeve and the more i researched the more I was sold. I am 24 days out of surgery and feeling pretty darn good.
