  1. Yay KKB that is awesome. Congrats on your success and healing. Sleeve 4 Me what about creamed Soups can you eat those? They were surprisingly tasty to me after surgery. I preferred the chicken one but I had a the mushroom one a couple times. It will give you some additional calories and you could add some Protein powder to it, though I wouldn't put too much in it. I tried that once and whew it did weird things to the texture. Total gag.
  2. Thank you so much! My youngest is wearing his again this year he loved it. My older son has moved on lol.
  3. Stacy you made me well up. Wow those are all so wonderful and I can actually hear your joy through your post. Thank you for sharing with us and congrats on making your tool (the sleeve) work for you. It is amazing.
  4. I said I can't drink crystal light? Was it on a different thread? Crystal light is an approved post drink option for sure. I will be honest I only like the fruit punch one. The others taste like diet drinks to me. I don't like aspartame sort of taste of fake sweetners. Not even in gum can I stomach it. I will only have sweet N low in my tea and coffee. Other then that I wont drink it. I have tried other sweetners such as truvia and splenda...DONT LIKE EM lol. I always loved to wash food down with a bubbly regular Pepsi so now I am just drinking tea, apple juice and some fruit punch crystal light along with my Water. I think lost of people use crystal light though and it is an awesome zero calorie/sugar option for sure!

    stuck!

Week three was slow for me, then close to end of week four i dropped 4 pounds and it has been another week and I have lost another 3-4 pounds already. I started exercising and logging my food into Fatsecret.com it is paying off. I will do my six week weigh in a week from friday and I will update my ticker. So I was in same boat as you in week three when I started on some decent food, just keep plugging along. Chances are you can't not lose weight if you keep your calorie intake down and eat decently. Don't get too worried. I bet your body is just happy to have some food back.

    many AFTER questions

Driving by day 5 No pain meds after I left the hospital (one tylenol for a headache once) 2 nights at hospital Muscle Milk Light ROCKS... IMO (i hate powders that you add to food gag!) General swelling in tummy area around 10-12 days but its more just a lil poofy around incisions then noticable swelling. Clear liquids were like heaven but I wasnt hungry so not eating real food didn't bother me until around the time I got to mushies and I was ready for those puppies!

    Mushies!!!!!

Hi Determined: Have you looked at any VSG guides? I will link one for you to look at. Each doctor and clinic has their own pre and post surgical diets for you to follow. Most go in stages from liquids and progress to normal types of food allowing your stomach to heal without complications and to get you used to taking in certain amounts of Protein and such. Here is a link of one of those guides. http://www.sleeveguide.com/uploads/1/7/9/4/1794785/dietary_guidelines_sleeve_gastrectomy.pdf

    6 Months Out

congrats! I will check it out.
  10. I am with Chilo, I consume around 900 calories a day sometimes a little less and I like Tiffany am not really limiting the fat. I am not going toward high fat foods just foods that have a good protein content that may have a bit of extra fat in them. I haven't updated my ticker but I am at a loss of around 5 more pounds over the last 9 days. Since I started exercising. Your gain probably isn't from not eating, I think it is from water weight or maybe fecal matter.. who knows. I do think to keep it moving the other direction you might try to get a few more calories. I know it is hard with your limited choices. I had some shrimp the other night and they had a TON of protein. Low carb too. Chin up your not going to keep gaining. Added: I looked at your diet journal on fatsecret, wow it looks really low and it doesn't seem like your getting enough veggies possibly? I also wonder if the jerky you are eating isnt jacked up in sodium and making you retain water.
  11. Congrats on your surgery. You will be on the loser's bench in NO time!
  12. There was tv with Directv, I did not see a dvd player. Sorry :crying:
  13. Ahh poor Two ::gives you a hug:: I had the same breakdown somewhere around the same time post-op. I went to my room and bawled like a baby. I guess I was so loud that my son heard when he was walking by my room. He was waiting when I opened my door. He is only 11, he was worried. I assured him I was feeling physically fine nothing to worry about but that I was feeling kind of sad and down but that I just needed to cry and get it out. He gave me the biggest hug. I think it was some post anesthesia depression along with the calorie deficit and the mental strain of worrying over leaks and such. Youre tired, youre sore, youre hormones are nuts and it is a big change. You made the decision to have surgery when you were in a clear frame of mind. You will get back to that point and you will remember all the reasons you did it and how much they meant to you. You will feel like you again I promise and it doesn't take long normally to reach that point. Just hold on tight hun.
  14. LOL it is like we are a bunch of sports fans and each surgery is a different team that we are all fanatics about. Well here in our park there are a ton of band to sleeve revisions so for those people it was not the right choice. Each surgery has it's pro's and con's so depending on each person and the things they find important to maintain their lifestyles you will get fanatics on each side of the surgery road. I personally think the ongoing risk of complications with the band (slippage, errosion, esophogeal issues and fills then needing unfills etc) it was just too many "what if'" I wouldn't want any surgery that reroutes my intestines because I personally know of two people that died of complications after those types of surgeries and I would rather leave that part of my body intact. The sleeve for me was shown as effective as the other two if not even more so. I felt like once I healed it was a one and done procedure and the risk of complications after the initial healing period was done was minimal. So this was the right surgery for me. I am now a diehard TEAM VSG fan!

    Question!

That is the general direction given to pretty much everyone that I know of. It is something that I just knew was going to be difficult for me. Part of my meal time was the drink that I was having with my food. Milk in the morning and pretty much Pepsi (NO DIET) the rest of the meals. I picked restaurants based on if they had Pepsi vs Coke and if they kept my cup filled. That said I have dropped the soda (tastes a little funky anyways, yes I had to try it lol). I drink tea, crystal light or apple juice. I do take a few tiny sips when I eat. I went to lunch today and had half a charbroiled chicken taco and took 5 tiny sips of my iced tea. The cup didn't even look like I had drank any. Others are totally against it. Some just suggest chewing the food longer is the key. I say it is not about the size of the food particles I am eating. It is part of my eating experience so I log those tiny sips of juice on my food log. The rest are all calorie free. That is my experience thus far.
  16. Exactly what Julie6 said. You would be more then safe with the hospital staff only but for moral support I say bring someone.I would say try to bring someone that you are close to...don't just bring anyone. Does that make sense? I had my mom with me and she always gives me a sense of peace. I was very emotional after surgery though probably nobody would have known that by looking at me but my mom of course could tell and knew exactly what I needed. She pushed my iv pump around the halls every stinking time I walked to the bathroom. She would re-wet the cold cloth I put on my head. blah blah It was great to have her. I would have survived alone though.

band removed but no sleeve BUMMER

Well then amen! I know it sucks to wait but think about all the wonderful healing that will be done to your tummy in that time. It will be stronger and better for the procedure down the road and it will significantly reduce the complications that you COULD have had if your surgeon wasn't as conservatively attentive.

    Scared to be skinny

Hehe that is true! I also started off looking at lap band on the lapbandtalk forums and some people that were posting over there mentioned the sleeve and I hopped on over here and did a ton of research here and on the net. I decided pretty swiftly that with all the possible ongoing complications with the band that this surgery would work much better for me. I am about 5 weeks out (friday) and I am down over 20 pounds. I have my official 2 week weigh a week from this friday then I will update my ticker. That is pretty good because I am a lower BMI person and we tend to lose slower. I am adjusting quickly. Just do your research, print some things out for your hubby and have him attend your informational meetings. Maybe he will be less worried. Congrats on your decision to move forward with something like this and welcome to the boards.
  19. Congrats to you and your hubby. How awesome that you can be a support to each other and you both will totally understand where the other is coming from! yay

    Im getting scared!!!

Ah Sleeve I can totally understand why youre scared. I never had any surgery before I had my tummy tuck a few years ago and I was scared stiff. I had an IV before that when I was in labor with my children so I knew what to expect with that. If you have someone that is good at getting i.v's it is a pinch that you feel but it is very minimal IMO. The catheter they put in while your under sedation and you really don't feel it while it is in, which is amazing. When they removed it I felt no pain it feels like a tug, sliding and feels foreign but did not hurt at all. I think youre going to do great. Just try to be as relaxed and positive as possible. Don't fight the drugs just let yourself go. It is the strangest thing to fall asleep one second and not realize it, then wake up and it feels like you never went to sleep yet it has been a couple hours (surgery and recovery etc) and youve had stinking surgery! Nothing is going to take away the anxiety totally but just know it is normal and you can ask for a pep talk from us at any time!

Wow, who would have ever thought your surgery would open doors to heal some relationships and to get affirmation of the love others have for you! Bravo and best wishes.
