Does PPI help curb appetite? Anybody?
mp8btpc replied to mp8btpc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I think this calls for me to try my own personal medical study! I will pick up some more Prilosec and try taking it and seeing if in the next couple of weeks my hunger gets under control. I know I have been stressing about some extended family bull crap so it might just be an anxiety comfort food thing that I am experiencing. Either way it can't hurt to try to add the Prilosec back in, I can enjoy coffee when I take it so that is almost reason enough to keep taking it. If it seems to be working I will continue until I reach goal then try to stop it then. Thank you all for weighing in on this though! Blackberry you are correct research is a PITA! information overload and sooo much conflicting. Tiffy I wish I had zero hunger....that alone makes me jealous girl. -
Thanksgiving - things have changed since surgery
mp8btpc replied to NtvTxn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bet that is a strange sensation. I was all bummed because I should have just chosen like 2 items to have a decent amount of, instead I chose to fill plate with a tiny bit of each food and I didn't feel like I was able to enjoy it because I got full so fast. I am being a Debbie downer, I can appreciate that I was unable to eat only a tiny bit but on the other hand my head was telling me to dig in! i LOVE chocolate meringue pie! My grandma used to make the best ones...nobody else I know puts meringue on chocolate pies. So glad to hear I am not weird that I love that! -
One Week to Go... and I'm thinking of Chickening OUt
mp8btpc replied to rain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your fears are normal and we all had them, I am sure we all questioned why we just couldn't lose weight the "normal" way and keep it off, but statistically it is close to being impossible for people. I am sure you could find some great stats online to help justify to your husband why you feel hopeless about doing it through some non medical method. I think you should sit down and write him a heart felt letter explaining why YOU want to have the procedure and offer to have him come with you to the doctor and that you are prepared to show him the stats regarding the procedure. I know when I was telling my mother who is in the medical profession and is of the mind that you only have medically necessary procedures, that she was not happy that I was choosing to have surgery and given the fact that I was a "lightweight" it made even less sense for her. But through a heart felt plea with her that I didn't need her to approve of my surgery I just wanted her to support me. I made it clear how bad I was hurting by being overweight and that it was affecting my quality of life. I left it up to her to decide if she would accompany me to Mexico or not. I then gave her a week before I brought up the subject again and asked her if I could get my birth certificate so I could get my passport, because it would take 6 weeks to get and needed to get process started. She then said sooo if someone is going with you they need to get a passport too?I said yes and that I would pay for her passport if she chose to go. She said she would look for hers,......so long story short. I didn't approach her in anger and I wasn't pushy. I just laid out my heart and let her know that I was going to do it but it meant it a lot more for me to have her to support me even though she didn't agree or support the surgery. Just give him some time to adjust, approach him humbly but with strength that you are making a decision only YOU can make. He is hurt you went behind his back so-to-speak but I think you can smooth it over with a little TLC and some information for him. Let him know you want him involved and that you need him but that you deserve to make your own medical decisions and that he would retain the same right for himself. Good luck. -
How did everyone do at Thanksgiving?

DANGIT!!!! It is official, my hair is falling out. EXPLETIVE!
mp8btpc replied to mp8btpc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ahhh thanks guys for the tips and for understanding how it is emotional to see my hair in clumps after simply running a wide tooth comb through it! I am going to pump up my vits for the sake of it and just roll with it. I lost quite a bit after both of my labors and it came back so I guess crying over spilled milk wont help. I run a straightening Iron through it daily so maybe I will try to do that less often. It was something I dreaded and hoped I could dodge but apparently it is out of my hands (actually it is all out of my head lol). If it gets noticeable maybe I will try a few of those extensions like Sleeve4me suggested, that picture was very cute by-the-way! I ended up with enough this morning after washing my hair to make a little rat to poof up the top of my hair LOL or I can pray for the head shrinkage. -

Ten weeks out - not as easy as I thought...
mp8btpc replied to TwoStepsBack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL I can understand what you are saying. You feel like you are eating so much less then pre-op, you are making better choices and of course you feel like you deserve some treats in very small moderation. However we justify it the body probably isn't in our justifications and just needs some more time of stricter dieting. You have lost like 30+ so don't be too discouraged but just put yourself back on a stricter eating phase even for a week or two along with stepping up your exercise and I think you will see results on the scale and that may be enough to help the motivation to hang off a little longer on the extra's. Chin up! -
Super Sleeve (Gastric Plication)
mp8btpc replied to CavyGuy's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I am still confused after all these posts...is Super Sleeve Gastrectomy a supposedly smaller more restrictive sleeve? Or is it the same as the plication with no cutting and the sewing together of the stomach onto itself? If it is a more restrictive sleeve could a person in theory have VSG and then if for some reason lacked full restriction go in and subsequently have a Super Sleeve done? -
Cant believe it I have reached my goal
mp8btpc replied to noname's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow those are some great results. You have every reason to be so proud. Thank you for sharing with us, it is so inspiring for me personally to see these posts from "real" people. -
First off congrats your stats are amazing. Good for you. Secondly I stopped my PPI's about 2 weeks ago and I have noticed I am hungry more often and wondered if the PPI could actually help control my appetite, I think I need to go back on the PPI's at least until I reach goal. Anyone else have info to support this theory for me?

Well there are plenty of Dr. Aceves patients on the site that will be able to give you direct info on what to expect, but know this you will have a great and successful surgery with him. I never have a second though when people mention having surgery with him. Good luck and best wishes hun.

Uhh do you mean Zicam? Zantac is for GERD and such...hehe -
I saw someone joke that he lost almost as much weight as the weed they found in his van. LOL. Good for him though. It helps get the VSG procedure out there.

Ohh i have not seen those liners but I am surely going to look for some. I HATE cleaning the crock pot. Also I LOVES ME SOME SWEET BABY RAYS sauce! I am going to make this next week for sure! One item I love is the zip and steam bags from Zip Lock for veggies. You can wash and reuse them quite a few times. I can make a lunch size portion of broccoli in like 3 minutes. I just wash the broccoli shake off the excess and lightly salt it before I put it in the bag and toss it in the micro and whamo, great steamed broccoli in a jif. It works great on canned veggies also. I just drain the juice and toss em in the bag.

LMAO I was like is she talking about scar tissue under her incisions? Yes, I have rediscovered my collar bones and I LIKEY! -
Congrats on getting a date for your surgery! Yay and for also getting one of your last presleeve meals to be Thanksgiving feast! Awesome! Your daughter has done so well so kudos to her. I hope that you get a great resolution for her. Since she is so thin maybe she has learned to eat less portions and could actually do without the surgery or at least let it play out a year or so and see if she has had much gain. I would probably do that if it was me. I can understand though why she would be scared to not have some tool in place after losing all that weight. Keep us posted and again congrats and enjoy Thanksgiving portions ...eat some extra for me please?

Post-Op Vegas trip... HELP!!!!
mp8btpc replied to JennChap's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good question I was thinking about that the other day (i dont have any tattoos) but I was watching Pawn Stars and the owners son has quite a few and my mind wandered around to I wonder how all his tattoos would look if he lost weight. Strange how I want everyone to have the sleeve now lol. I hope that doesn't sound bad like I am intolerant of people with weight issues. I just think for those who are struggling with weight issues they can't solve it would be great if everyone who wanted it could get it. Random rambling....sorry lol -
Feeling a little uneasy...
mp8btpc replied to MRSKOUBiK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well if you don't mind sharing with us when you get the full information on why it was denied. There has been some great advice given on appeal letters etc. Some ladies have had a successful time of it. So if you haven't already posted something regarding it. Keep it in mind. The site here can be very helpful. p.s Im sorry to hear about the denial but hopefully it is just a starting point. -

Ladies PMS question
mp8btpc replied to Crabadams72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have taken ibuprofen for my menstrual issues since having the sleeve. I however can not take Aleve it does weird things to my period. It always has, it makes me stop bleeding mid cycle then suddenly two weeks later my period would start again (though it worked awesome on the cramps lol). I brough it up to my doctor years ago and he said that Aleve is actually prescribed to women who experience episodes of heavy menstrual bleeding for days on end. It will in a lot of women stop their bleeding. It also has been linked to possibly messing with fertility in women. I found this article about it on a fertility website: Fertility Plus Also this: Precautions related to fertility The use of naproxen, as with any drug known to inhibit cyclooxygenase/prostaglandin synthesis, may impair fertility and is not recommended in women attempting to conceive. In women who have difficulty conceiving or are undergoing investigation of infertility, withdrawal of naproxen should be considered. -
Wow that's a whole lot of benadryl. The active ingedient in most of those over the counter sleep aids including tylenol PM's is the anahistamine that is Benadryl (diphenhydramine). Maybe too much wired you up?
