~*~ Workout Challenge and Chat Thread ~*~

How is everyone doing? I was able to swim 100 laps on Friday! It was much slower than I used to do it, but at least I finished it. I did quite a bit of walking over the weekend and a bit today. It will be back at the gym again for me tomorrow. I'm seeing the trainer again on Saturday, so I need to get ready--I haven't seen her in a couple of weeks. I hope everyone is doing well! -
Thanks, I will do that. I didn't even think of calling around and asking about it---Duh!

I had surgery in April and my Dr., Dr. Tilquist, has support groups but they always seem to be at the worst possible days and times. Does anyone know of other groups that are available? Or, do you have to always use the groups that are set up by your Dr.? thanks

Congratulations! That is fantastic!

I have a serious time crunch too. I have 2 kids, work full-time, volunteer and my husband is in school full time. My kids have a lot of activities and depending on my husband's schedule, I'm doing a lot of running around after work to get them there. I've started getting up at 4:45 am and getting to the gym by 5:00 am. That way I can get in almost 90 minutes before I have to shower and get ready for work. If my husband has to leave home by 6 or so, I can at least get in 30 minutes before I come home again. Sometimes in the evening I'll also play games with the kids that involve a lot of movement. That helps too. It is definitely hard to keep getting up early. My goal is to get to the gym at least 4x a week and do other activities the other days. I also try to walk for at least 30 minutes at work every day. Most days I can squeeze that in, of course, there are those really ugly days when I can barely walk to the bathroom because I'm so busy.

I've always thought that sounded interesting too. I've used some weighted balls, but I don't think it is quite the same thing. I've been working a TON lately. Sunday my family went to the pool and I was able to swim some laps--1 mile in 45 minutes! I didn't think that was too bad, considering I haven't swum that far in years. But, Mon. and Tues. I didn't do anything. Both evenings I did work at home and Tuesday I went to work early too. After yesterday I decided to forget about coming in early if I was already staying late and doing work at home, so I am back at the gym in the am again. Today I tried a new machine. I can't remember what it is called-it is similar to an elliptical, but it is much harder for me! I was really panting and my heart rate was really up there when I finished my 45 minutes. My legs were still pretty wobbly feeling a couple of hours later. It was great! :rolleyes2: I haven't been feeling good about my food decisions, or the # of calories I've been burning lately. I've felt like I've really needed to step it up and stop eating. I felt a lot better today after I stepped on the scale. After 2 weeks at a plateau, I lost 3 lbs! I guess I needed to do what I've been doing. I'm back at it again in the morning. Saturday I'm taking my Girl Scout troop to a farm to pick veggies and Sunday am taking my kids to climb trees. I'm hoping that both of those activities involve a lot of activity from me. :0 I hope everyone is doing well! -

You are exercising and that is the important thing. :tt1: That is great that you are off some meds too! I took it pretty easy last week, after I over did it on my knee. I did more upper body stuff and some biking on the reclining bike. I'm back to normal now though. :tt1: I have been doing more on the elliptical and have upped my weights as well. I decided that rather than do all cardio one day and then almost all weights the next, I'll be more consistent. I'll do more cardio on my weight days and do some weights on my cardio days. I'm also going to start shuffling up the cardio, rather than sticking to the elliptical all of the time. We'll see how that goes. I hope everyone is doing well! -
I struggle with this too. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

How is everyone doing? -
I've had 2 fills before today. At my first one, the Dr. gave me 3 ccs and it was too much. He ended up taking 1 cc out about 3 hrs later. At my 2nd fill, the Dr. gave me 1 cc and took out .5 about 30 minutes later. Today I went in for my 3rd fill. This time the PA. gave me .5ccs, waited 20 minutes and gave me another .5 ccs. She thinks that part of the reason that I seem to be getting so tight so quickly is that I may be getting some kind of spasm. Next time the PA wants to do 3 fills at the same appointment. I REALLY hope I don't need that. After the 1st one, it is very painful for me. When I've had the fills before, my jaw locks and I have a lot of excess saliva. As soon as I've had a bit taken off, I'm fine again. However, I can't tell any difference in my hunger after my fills. Has anyone else been told that they may be spasming? Has anyone else had to wait between fills for 20 mins or so?
-
I think that 2 weeks would be better. Just waiting 20 minutes is hard because the second fill is much more painful for me. It is hard because I'm self-pay and I get 12 appts. with the band. After that it is $200 per fill, it can get pretty expensive if I have to go in mulitple times to get one small fill. :smile2:

I'm sorry you have them. I had them a few years ago on my back and was miserable. I hope that they clear up quickly!

Great job! -
Being able to go down the slide at the park when playing with my kids and being able to fit in the swing and not be miserable when I swing with my daughter Walking much, much faster at work when I wait too long to go to the bathroom and have to get to the other end of the building. Being able to jump on the trampoline more than once or twice, now it is 10 minutes and I can still keep going

how well did your husbands/wife take being at the hospital
marykb replied to lovemysgt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband took me at 6:30 am, hung out and used his lap top to study and play for a few hours, then came in when I was in recovery. We were home by 1:00 pm and then he stayed with me until he had to pick up the kids from school. Fortunately he was good at the hospital--he is nursing school right now and I would be worried if he was freaking out. -
I haven't heard that before, but I really like it too.

Did your Dr. call you after the surgery?
marykb replied to tle5000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr.'s office called later that afternoon and the next day. The surgery center called the next day. -
I look so much older now that I've lost weight in my face. Other people have commented on it too! Has anyone else had this happen?
-
I was kind of shocked someone said something to me too! That is the last thing I need. I feel old enough already.

How very sad. My thoughts are with her family.

Hi Barney and LilMiss! 90 mins a day is awesome, LilMiss! I wish I could stick to that! Barney, that is great that you are training for a 5K! I just got back from being out of town again with the kids over the weekend. I didn't do too well eating wise, and we didn't do much strenuous exercise, but we did play in the hotel pool a lot and walk quite a bit. I didn't end up doing as badly as I thought I would. The bad thing is I somehow twisted my knee or something on Saturday. I have no idea what I did. I had an ACL repair about 10 yrs ago and every once in awhile I'll step funny and it really hurts for a few days. I iced it on Sat. night and again on Sunday night. It didn't feel too bad this am, so I went to the gym. I started on the elliptical and it started to ache. So, instead of paying attention, I did what I normally do and cranked up the intensity. I didn't want to be too wimpy. After 50 mins on the elliptical, I did 20 on the bike. Needless to say, by the time I had showered and dressed, I could no longer walk down the 1 flight of stairs from the locker room and ended up taking the elevator!! I could barely get my leg in the car. My husband bought me a new ice pack today, so I'll use that tonight. Tomorrow, I'll just do the bike and some arm weights. I think I learned my lesson about being wimpy--at least until the next time. -

I had surgery on 4/8 and I'm hoping that my hair loss stops soon. My Dr. has told me to get 40 g of Protein a day and I'm usually over that. I've started taking Hair, Skin and Nails Vitamins and using the Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. I was taking Biotin before, but it is included in the other vitamins, so I've stopped. I don't see as much hair on my pillow when I wake up in the morning, but that might be because I just have less to lose. Good luck everyone!
