    Post Op Visit

hat was pretty much mine too. The assistant weighed me and he came in, looked at the stitches, told me it looked good and he was done. I asked a couple of questions, how much Protein should I get (40) how much Calcium (1000) and how long eating only 2 oz (until I lose all my weight) and that was it. Mary
  2. I'm 20 days post-surgery too and I have been pretty emotional some days as well. It is really bad when I don't have a particularly great day. One thing not going well will just ruin most of my day. I keep trying to focus on the positive and remember how much healthier I will be and that helps sometimes. I'm just hoping as I get more and more used to the band and eating this way it will get better. You are definitely not alone! Mary
  3. I didn't have any pain either, although I did get pretty gassy. I ended up taking some Gas-X to get rid of it. I did that on and off for the first 10 days or so.
  4. I was banded on 4/8/10, and I've had a horrible taste in my mouth ever since I stopped the liquid diet. I used to use a couple of 5 calorie mints a day and drank my Water, but the mints are upsetting my stomach now. I still drink lots of water, but it doesn't seem to help much. Does anyone else have this problem? If you do, what do you do for it? Thanks in advance for any advice anyone has!
  5. I will look for those. I did read just the other day that cinnamon actually helps get rid of bad breath, while other types of mints just disguise it. Thanks for your help!

    First Fill Today

I'm glad to hear it went well. I'm having my first fill in a couple of weeks and I'm already nervous about it. It is nice to hear that it went well for you!:scared2:

    Post-Op Questions

I wouldn't be able to do all that, but I'm kind of wimpy.:scared2: I know for me the day after the surgery was much more painful than the day of. The anaesthetic had worn off and I was really tired. I was taking all of the pain killers I had been prescribed. I had my surgery on a Thursday, and by Sunday I was up and around a bit more, but I was still pretty tired and couldn't bend over at all. Mary

    Renewed thinking...

I feel the same way. The other day we went out to dinner and my kids and husband were eating mozzerella sticks. I just put them at one end of the table and didn't look that direction--but it was really hard! I don't even really like mozzerella sticks.
  11. When I was eating mushy food, I did a lot of yogurt, cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. The eggs made me fill full the longest. I eat only 1/4 C per meal and 1 scrambled egg would do it for me.

    Finally!!!

Congratulations! I have just started and I hope to get to that point some day as well. You show me that it is possible.

    Embarrassing Diarrhea Question

I'm glad I found this too! I feel like I've been living on Immodium since my surgery on 4/8/10. I didn't have any when I was on liquids, but I did on mushy foods and now on soft solids I have had it a couple of times too. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in having this problem.
  14. I usually have 1 egg scrambled with .5 oz of low fat cheddar cheese mixed in. I've tried protein drinks, but I get hungry so quickly with them!
  15. I slept propped up on pillows in bed for a couple of nights before I could lay flat. It was just too painful to get up and lay down again right after surgery. I was finally able to sleep on one side after about a week. It has been about 2 weeks since surgery and it still isn't comfortable to sleep on the side with the port.
  16. I was on liquids for one week, mushy foods for one week, and now, 15 days out, I'm on softer solids. For example, I can have deli meat now, but not pieces of chicken. I'm on that diet until 1 month out from my surgery, then I can eat anything. I'm SO glad I wasn't on any kind of diet beforehand. I had to do liquids the day before surgery and I was starving!

    Confused

Diana, Thank you for the info, I really appreciate it! jensmallwood, I was also concerned about the 3/4 C day of total food until I lose all my weight. The nutrionist for my Dr. also said the same thing. I think what I'll do is find another nutrionist, just to get a second opinion. I can certainly understand no more than 2 oz at a time--I don't want to stretch out the pouch I just got. Thank you for your comments! Mary

    Confused

I'm getting a little concerned reading all of these posts. My Dr. has told me no more than 2 oz at a time and eat no more than 3x per day. About 99.9% of what I eat is protein. I had some pasta once, but that is it. He told me I could have a fruit or a vegetable with the protein, but in total it can't be more than 2oz. It sounds like a lot of people are eating more than that and still losing weight. It sounds like I may need to talk to the nutrionist again about how much I eat.
  19. I have my first fill in a month and the Dr told me he uses pain medication first. Hopefully it is the spray that people have mentioned. Sometimes the numbing medicine hurts almost more than the shot!

    Water Fix

I hadn't thought of that. Good idea! I use mine when I'm biking or hiking, but hadn't thought of using it around the house.

    Portion size

I talked to my Dr. about it today. He told me if I kept losing weight to keep to what I was doing. If I stop losing weight or getting really hungry, I can have a cup of Protein drink. I guess I'll see if I stop losing then I'll have to up it.

    Colorado Anyone

I had surgery with Dr. Tillquist on 4/8 and I've really liked him and CJ in the office. I did a self-pay and didn't have any problems with any of the pre-op things. I had tried Dr Snyder first and had a horrible experience with his office. I never got the same story twice and I submitted information over and over again. Dr Tillquist was a much better experience for me!

    Portion size

I haven't had my first fill yet either, but I haven't been too hungry yet with 3 meals a day of 1/4 C. Once in awhile, I'll have 4 oz of skim milk mixed with Carnation Instant Breakfast between meals, but that is it. I'm usualoly between 200 and 400 calories a day. I definitely measure all my food. I have a problem just drinking the water slowly enough. I start to gulp it--I just need to remember to slow down and sip.
  24. I have a question for the people that are eating the frozen meals: do you normally eat the whole dinner at one sitting, or do you split it up into more than 1 meal? I would love to have those, I've always liked Lean Cuisine, but am only able to have a total of 6 oz. of food a day until I lose all my weight. I didn't know if I could split up a meal like that.
  25. I had surgery on Thursday and went back to work on Monday. I have a pretty sedentary job and didn't have any problems. I was just tired out by the end of the day.
