To tell or not to tell, that is the question...
marykb replied to LeighaMason's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I told my husband and one close friend and that is it. My family is totally obsessed with weight already and my childhood was filled with wacky diets. I do not want to encourage them to critique what I eat and do. We just told the kids that I had to have some surgery on my tummy but that I'm ok now. They really didnt' ask any quesions after the first few days. The only questions they did ask were if they could sit on my lap, or I could carry them up the stairs. -
April Bandsters - How are you doing?
marykb replied to BusyMom1961's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 4/8 and have been doing pretty well so far. I've lost about a third of my goal, so I'm VERY happy about that! I go in tomorrow to see if I need a fill and how I'm doing. Part of me wants a fill --although I'm a bit nervous about it. Part of me thinks I'm doing pretty well already and might not need one. So, we'll see how it goes. -
My Dr had me on mushies after a week. I ate some scrambled eggs during that time and had no problems. I wasn't supposed to eat any chicken though. I would agree with asking your Dr.

I have done karat for a couple of years now. My Dr said to avoid it completely for 2 weeks and then no sit ups for 2 weeks. When we spar, I typically do it with my husband, and he knows better than to hit me in my stomach anyway. I'm not that familiar with rugby, but do you get tackled in it? Do people get hit in the stomach a lot? I am a pretty nervous person, so if that could happen, I would probably avoid playing it for a long time. But, that is just me. -
I weigh or measure everything I can. If I'm out someplace and am eating, I'll try to eyeball it and then eat less than I think I should eat. (I figure I'm overestimating when I eyeball it). If I get full before I eat what I've measured, I'll stop. If I'm still hungry I'll stop too, but it is much harder. Mary

Congratulations! -
That is great! I hope I'm as successful as you have been!

That is a great idea! I'll have to do that.

Hi, I'm 43 and live in Denver. 3 years ago I lost 70 lbs, but have since gained it all back. I've been very fortunate in that I don't have any other health problems. My husband is very supportive, but I haven't told anyone else in my family. My family has always been totally obsessed with weight and I just don't want to have this be a big focus. I was banded on 4/8 and so far have been losing weight. I have eaten a few crackers and tonight had a bit of ice cream, but otherwise have been sticking to it. I get my first fill on 5/18, so I hope that will help me fight my temptations.

Good Morning late April Band Bunnies!!!
marykb replied to beachcitygirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got thrush after my surgery too. I had to take some disgusting liquid medicine 4x a day and when that didn't work some other antibiotics. It finally worked, but I hate that infection! -
Bandster Hell for the April Bunnies
marykb replied to IAmJacksLapBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have my first fill in 10 days. I don't get hungry between meals that often, but when I do, I'm STARVING! My Dr said I can have 8 oz of a Protein powder mixed with skim milk. Otherwise, only 2 oz of food 3x per day. I'm at the point where I can eat almost anything, but I'm still sticking with mostly protein. I've found that, for me, if I eat something low in protein, I get hungrier faster. I'm really hoping that after a fill I won't have the days where I'm so hungry! Mary -

I've been using Benefiber mixed with water and haven't had any problems.

I had surgery on 4/8/10 and I'm already cheating--I feel awful! Last week I had a bite of a friend's brithday cake--but about 2 T of frosting. Last night, about 45 minutes after dinner, I had 3 Ritz crackers with about 2 oz of cheddar cheese. Today for lunch I had 5 Ritz Crackers with a little over 2 oz of cheese. I'm not supposed to be eating sugar, crackers or snacking at all. I know it isn't like I'm eating a whole box of crackers, or an entire cake, but I still feel really guilty about it. My husband keeps telling me that no one can stick to a strict diet forever; you sometimes need to have things that are not on your diet, just don't go crazy. Maybe it will be easier after I get my first fill in a couple weeks. Does anyone else feel guilty when they do things like this? Or, has anyone cheated on what they are supposed to be eating so early after getting banded? Mary

How often do you weigh yourself
marykb replied to lauragshsu's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I want to do it once a week, but I'm too tempted to know if I've lost anything so I am doing it every couple of days now.:bored: -
LB Pain vs. C-Section Pain?
marykb replied to Mommy2Ps's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with everyone else, the LB was nothing compared to a C Section. The recovery, for me, with the LB was a piece of cake compared to the C Section too. The pain I did have didn't last nearly as long! -
I scrambled egg works well for me for breakfast. If I eat a slice of deli turkey and 1 slice of cheese, that holds me for quite awhile too.

Thank you!

Liquids after surgery
marykb replied to suebydoo70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same. After 1 week each of liquids and mushy, then I was on solids. It was fine. -
That is great! Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! I haven't cheated since Saturday, granted, not a very long time. I've lost 22 lbs so far, so I'm trying to focus on that, not the fact that I've had 8 Ritz crackers in 24 days.

Stargate and Anita, Thanks, I'm trying to calm down and not stress out about it. I'm still not getting many calories and most days more than enough Protein, so I'm trying to focus on that.

What are you eating???
marykb replied to YoungBlackAndBanded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been really lucky I think because I don't get my first fill until 5/18. I haven't been super hungry very often and usually the Protein Drink helps. I'm sure I will start getting hungrier and hungrier until I get a fill though -
What are you eating???
marykb replied to YoungBlackAndBanded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For breakfast I usually have 1 scrambled egg with .5 oz of cheddar cheese. lunch is either 1/4 C cottage cheese or 1 slice cheese and 1 slice deli turkey. dinner can be either of those two, or 1/4 C of whatever my family is having. Last night I had 4 slices of banana and 1 Tbs of Peanut Butter. If I get really hungry during the day, I'll have 8 oz of skim milk mixed with one Carnation Instant Breakfast packet. I also take Multivitamins and 1500 mg Calcium every day. I try to walk at least 30 minutes every day at work and if I have time, I'll do an hour. On the weekends I do a lot more running around, walking, biking, playing in the park with the kids, etc. Mary
