Newbe-with complications
Kaydotrn replied to pauliegirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
(((Paula)))) I am sorry to hear the news. I would suggest posting this question on the complications thread and I hope youcan find some answers there. I have no experience to help you as I am newly banded, but welcome to the board and please keep us posted on your progress. Best wishes for a speedy solution. -
Nat-tell me more about the book. I am definitely interested. Major food addict here but I am working on that. Glad you had fun at football. We had a nice time too. About 15 of us..though I get easily distracted by crowds and I found it hard to concentrate on the game. It was a nice day out with the family and the Pats winning really helped! Dawn-sorry you are so wiped out! You mean your kids don't listen when you tell them 1000 times to not climb onthe back of the couch-yup, mine too. I swear they have to learn the hard way. ugh. My little one (4) also puts on the dancing tutus and does that Barbie Princess thing. It is funny. My little one scares me though, the other day she was trying to teach me how to model walk down my hall. Seriously, she put on her pink cowboy boots and a dress, and serious face, and stomped like a model down the hall. I nearly died! I swear I don't let her see this crap on TV and I do not know where she gets it. Sadly, she was good at it too. My older daughter is nothing like that. Give her a good book and she will curl up and read for hours. No attitude, super sweet...How are my 2 so different? Anyway, I hope you got some sleep last night! Thinking of you. Steph-I love you pics! Thanks for sharing. We need to put some pics on the yahoo thread so I can "see" all of my friends. You have a teeny tiny butt. ::::jealous:::: Hi everyone else-I am wiped out today. I have not been sleeping enough so please know I am thinking of you but cannot type another word! I should be at the gym right now but seriously just want to take an hour and lay on the couch. I overdid it this weekend and need to learn to not push myself too far. Hohum. Have a great day everyone. 4 more days of liquids...:whoo:

Kimmy-ultimately, it comes down to calories in vs. calories out. Why don't you track your calories for a few days on FitDay.com and see where you stand. If youa re really eating shakes all day, the cals will definitely add up. You also need to be aware that the band is designed for us to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week. Anymore that that is a gift! I assume if you workout hard, the loss will speed up but I think it will be tough to lose all that weight by the end of March. Do you have a trainer? Maybe that push would help. I wish you luck, I know that Hollywood seems to focus on skinny skinny skinny :::makes me sad:::: Best wishes.

SERIOUSLY! I never noticed that!!!! hahahahahahaha. I am such a word freak too and I never noticed that! THat explains everything to me. hahahaha. Thanks Steph. BTW, I am not being sarcastic, I really never noticed that. The only thing I can think of like that is Evian backwards is Naive. hehe

Jeri! I love your story and certainly not TMI! Thanks for sharing. I too love the outdoors and despite being a city girl, we have recently begun camping as a family and we love it. It is great for the kids to be outside in the woods as opposed to spending the summer on the sidewalks around here. You have had such an adventurous life, one that I only read about but really enjoyed imagining! Thanks again for sharing and best wishes on a successful journey.

Welcome Ibrahim! Congrats on your loss thus far. Where is KSA?

Funny to say that as my DH is a recovering alcoholic and has been sober for 6 years :clap2: . Wonderful guy. Anyway, on Christmas Eve I was feeling really down about the not eating thing, and he said "it is just like not drinking for me at first, it sucks, but you get over it." He said it so simply and it kind of hit me in the head...duh, of course. He has done this amazing thing and never looked back, never complained to me how hard it was, still goes to events, parties etc where people are drinking up a storm and sips his diet pepsi's, get in ont he fun, makes jokes-in essence "parties" and never touches a drink, and here I am whining about not being able to eat some roast beef. It was a good perspective for me, and I appreciate that you somehow reminded me of that. It honestly helps.

Just a quick hello before I get ready for another food party---football party at my sister's house. I am right now drinking a latte shake sample. I forget who makes it but it is nasty! I am drinking though because I will be danmend if I waste it. This is where it works to buy samples, sure am glad that I did not invest any real money in a bucket of this toxic crapola! Steph-I cannot believe you have a 22 year old. Although, my Mom and Dad are 19 years older than I am so I know what that is like. IT is cool having young parents though since we are so close. My mom is like a friend to me (now-not when I was younger!). I had my first at 24 and felt so young, I don't know how my parents did it. And I turned out pretty well (except for the fat thing-haha). Feta cheese is one of my favorite foods and I was drooling over your feta and olives. I am craving a spinach bake with low fat feta and low fat cream cheese. Like a creamed spinach. I cannot wait to have a little of that. Is that considered a mushy??? Can anything be a mushy if you just mash the heck out of it? What a good daughter you have going to do missions. That is great. It is amazing how quickly we all forget and I thank you for the reminder. BKwalling-glad you found out what that pain was. I am sorry you had to go to the ER. I am telling you though, every little pain I get freaks me out like I think something is wrong. I am sure it is mostly healing pain but it really does give me the creeps when I get weird sensations. I have turned into a hypochondriac! Beversman-I am trying to think how many parties I have been too. I think it is 7 and all since surgery. Ugh-but it is not popularity but having big families with divorced parents. I don't have time for friend parties and had to decline the offers to go to family parties. haha. But I should be done until Easter! Thankfully. Okay-lots of talk about burping. I amnot burping at all. Not since the fist post op days when I was really gassy. But I do have more gas from the other, less pleasant end. Just loud but not particularly offensive (at least not to me-hehe). I sound like a trumpet. hahahahahaha sorry, TMI. I need to get my house picked up and my kids are driving me batty today so I will talk to you all later.

Good Morning everyone. I am here for positive support and guidance :::grin::: How is everyone's weekend? Mine is super busy and as has been the case for the past few weeks, totally centered around food events. UGH! Yesterday was my last official holiday party and it was crazy how much food there was. I took a dessert sized plate and ate some squash and a little potato since it was mushy (though I am still technically on liquids until Thursday). It was the best I could do. I chewed it to smithereens and ate very slowly. Today I am off to a football party. I am going to bring some of my potato Soup to eat. That should be fine. It is just hard to readjust to not eating and I cannot believe how many of my life events are centered around food. No wonder I got so heavy! Even is you indulge a little at each even, it will surely add up. I think I have been to 7 or 8 different events in the past month that have had huge displays of food. It is enough to make a starving girl lose her mind! haha. But I am happy to say that I am getting through it all! I had a heavy sleep on my stomach last night and when I woke up, my tummy was sore. Must have been too much pressure. Anyone else have that problem? Have a good day everyone.

Somebody Please Respond Just a Few ?s
Kaydotrn replied to Chris1982's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats on your surgery date. As far as smoking, I would really try to quit. I quit years ago and know first hand how tough it is! My surgeon will not operate unless you have given up the cigarettes. I am sure there are many smoking bandsters though-there is a thread somewhere here about it. My anesthesia was gas. I too am a stomach sleeper and found sleeping the first 2 weeks tough-used pillows for support to sleep on my side. It was hard, but I can now sleep on my tummy and am getting a full night's sleep! Thank God! My doctor perscribed liquid percocet which I used a couple of days and for the first 7 or so nights. Otherwise I used liquid tylenol. Ultimately, ask your doctor and follow his/her recommendations. -
Okiefamily-wtg on the walk! That will really boost your efforts. I haven't tried the pouches yet, as I am not on soft foods but I too would like to know if they are any good. Denise-that drink sounds yummy. Definitely consider checking out bariatriceating.com. There selection is good, they sell samples, and there shipping is quick! OfferRocker-I love that bariaticeating site too! I will take all the help I can get. Thanks for the other site. I will have to check that out. Have a good weekend everyone.

((LIZ))) I am so glad you are here! You should check out the September link since there will be a lot of people at the same stage as you are. There is a ton of great support here and I know you could probably help a lot of us more newly banded people out too. (as you already have helped me a lot!)

(((B-man))) I know how you feel, I feel the same. I have never been a "mean girl" not in high school or now, and that was never the intention. Anyone can come here and be involved in this thread..we don't own it. I just thought it was a chance to get more in depth and build on our already bonded relationships. I still go to the December thread first and read & post. What can we do? There will always be people who misinterpret, and I am comfortable that my intentions were not malicious nor were anyone else's. SmithK-I am so curious about Vienna Sausages. I have seen them in the supermarket and to be honest, was always a bit freaked about sausage type mean in a little can. I know it is just a matter of what we ate growing up...That is a good story about your concotion though. I hope you got over your craving. ((jillrn))) Hang in there. We are all going to lose at different rates. I don't balme you for the feelings you are having, but it is too soon for regrets. What are you eating in those 1000 calories? I only ask because I too have thought about insulin resistance and I find when I cut out sugar, white flours etc, the weight starts to come off. I would also recommend getting a thorough blood workup and thyroid checked. Hang in there!!!!! Nat-you are such a bitch :girl_hug: just teasing. How goes the good fight? Are you on your elliptical while reading posts? I can't wait until you start sleeping while you pedal on your elliptical. Maybe you can put some wheels on it and drive to work that way. I swear you have grown extremely attached to that beast! haha. Good for you. As far as the gym, there are no classes at the gym I go to now. I would love some yoga and I always liked kickboxing but my last gym that offered those classes cost me 50 bucks a month, and this gym, with better cardio equipment is only $20. I can live without the classes. For weights I have my own schedule of machines alternating upper and lower body workouts. As I get a little more into my recovery I will sign up with a trainer to set up a more concrete workout. As of right now, I feel like what I am doing is working. Sweethot-I am so glad to hear you are feeling better!!! We don't want any complications. Especially while you are attending the Medieval Torture hospital. Learn some German, would ya! To be truthful, I would be afraid to understand what those nurses were saying to you!!! I think a reunion some day would be great. Nat seems to think you are hosting??? Count me in! VaBandster-yay for not eating the fries and burger! I know it is hard, but totally worth it. Way to go!!! Even if we can eat it physically, that food is nothing but crap anyway. I for one am craving a buffalo chicken whip made by Nat!!! Transformer-can you get over this weather? New England was 70 degrees today. Freaking nuts! By next week it wil be 30 below and I will be freezing this booty off! Alright girls-it is getting late and I am beat. Long day at my official last Christmas Party! Yup-had another day of torture while I sat and watched people eat the yummiest looking food... BTW-I had my first food dream last night! Who started that-was it you Dawnae? Well last night I dreamt I was making eggs and turkey sausages (thanks to Nat) and I was getting upset with myself because I knew I wasn't supposed to eat them yet. I was relieved when I woke up. WACKO! See you all tomorrow!
-
I feel the same way! I honestly think I could eat a cow but have to will myself no too. I hope that changes when I transition off of the liquid stage but I imagine there will be no real restriction until I have my first fill which I imagine will be no sooner that February. (how's that for a run on sentence) I am excited to hear the experience of the first fill recipient in this group. Anyone getting a fill soon?
-
((jonandjem))) Please don't feel that way! This is a great place for support and I for one would be lost without it. I post regularly on several threads and I think it helps to chat with people in all different phases of this journey. We can learn a lot and hopefully help those just beginning with our recently acquired knowledge! There are no mean intentions. I wish you all the best and hope you stick around.
-
Are you talking about mudd butt? If that is the case, you can read back to posts around the 18th and a lot of us were complaining about that. I think it is totally normal. It took me about 2 weeks before I had any solid bm. Things are getting a bit more "regular" now but are nothing like pre-band.
-
I am with you Denise. Liquids stink but I am trying my best. 6 more days until I can transition and I cannot wait! This has been 3 looonnnggg weeks. hang in there, My latest yummy is simple, I take mashed potatoes and think them with a lot of skim milk-about a 1/2 cup of milk to 1/4 cup of potato, put a little low fat cheddar on top and melt it in the microwave. Mashed potato Soup. It is so yummy and definitely getting me through the next week. I also got the sampler pack from bariatriceating.com and the Protein shakes I have tried so far are much yummier than the ones I was eating. Wish I had them before. Today I had Elite Cafe Mocha and it was yummy!
-
(((BKwalling))) I love you even more! That is a wonderful story. I will say a prayer that you get to keep your babies and someday have babies in your belly. You have such an amazing motivation to get in shape. Wow. Thanks for trusting us enough to share that info. You are so young but obviously so mature and I am really happy for you. Give those little fellas a big squeeze from me.

I was at the gym today and as I was leaving I saw my neighbor. She told me she saw me the other day and was telling someone else how good I looked (that was nice) and then she asked was I doing anything else besides exercising and I told her just eating a lot less (no mention of surgery since I am keeping it to myself). I relayed this to my husband who said "you are going to have to start telling people soon"...WHY??? I know many do tell, but I just want to keep it to myself. For now at least..Of course if I ever do come out with it, everyone will think I am a big liar since I kept it in so long. It is my private medical history though, isn't it? How many of you are out with your surgery? Nat-"potato pie packed pouch"--that is a way to look at it. Get on the elliptical and learn the lesson, then move on. What the heck can you do? This is bound to happen as well all learn to overcome the eating issues that got us here in the first place. BTW, are you interested in some clothes? I have some cute Levi boot cut and a dark blue Target "Mossimo" pair of jeans that are 20 and black boot cut pants...nothing too fancy but within the next month they are heading out the door and I would be glad to send them off to you. As far as shoppin, I will porbably buy a pair of 18 jeans maybe at Old Navy or Target and a couple of shirts. I have some 18's and 16's in my closet and I will rotate the clothes around. I will NOT buy much until I am steady at a size for a while. I wish I could look into the future and know what that size will be. I am also interested in sharing photos on that "groups" thread we started. I too do not want my shtuff posted on the WWW. I have myspace but it is private except to those that I know (anyone else have one or my the only 35 year old dork in here?)-I will share with you if you ask. As far as Protein drinks. I had been using Designer whey that are not so tasty but tolerable. I went to bariatriceating.com and bought their sample set that came today. I have about 15 samples, tried the Elite Cafe Mocha (22gr protein before adding milk) shake today and it is delicious! I am looking forward to buying some more after I try them out. It is a nice kit, and well put together for about 20 bucks. I recommend it. BTW, giggling at your confusion in that "obese people unattractive" post. "Is English your 1st language?" I was thinking the same thing and then felt bad that she is dyslexic. Must be tough to find support in a typewritten forum. Oh- and another thing-you are not too fat to join the gym. I started there at about 275. Yeah, I felt like a heffer but screw everyone else there. I am there for me. I even joined a gym that has guys there and people I have known my entire life. At times I feel akward but I am getting over it and looking better for it. I do weights on the nautilus machines 3 days a week but currently I don't have the ok from the MD. Can't wait though. I miss it. mystique-as far as weight, the thinnest I have been as an adult was 167 about 14 years ago (back when baggy clothes were in :::. I thought I was pretty hot then. haha. I have it in my head that I want tobe 157-that will put me in a size 10 I think. Right now though I want to see 190 since that will bring me out of the "obese" category and plop me into the glorious "overwight" category. I too am 5'7" but I think it really depends on the person. BKwalling-are you planning to have more babies? You have 2 boys, right? I only ask because you mentioned about getting down to 140. I think I am done in the baby department, though I joke that my luck will be that I get knocked up in my 40's. I had my first at 24 and second at 30 and now at 35 I don't think I haveit in me to start again..though there are times I would love to. My sister is in baby making mode and pregnant with her 3rd so I get a lot of my baby fix from her. Sweethot-are you feeling better? hope so. Your food sounds yummy. Good for you for planning it out. Okay, where are the butt shots? I want to see some booty on here. hahaha Hugs ladies. Sorry for the super long post, but I had lots to say tonight.

I went to my first seminar around September 26th, 06. I had my first consult the middle of October as well as nutrition and psych eval. In November I had my abdominal U/S and end of November met with the surgeon and was given the opportunity to schedul my date. They had as soon as Dec 7th available but I was not free until Dec. 18th-so that was my surgery date. My insurance info was submitted the last week of November and approved the same week.

Are fat people unattractive and unpoluar?
Kaydotrn replied to ted12345's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well said Wheetsin. I get what you are saying. I was really confused during this post but I think I get it now. I definitely think yo-yo dieting messes with your metabolism and makes weight loss more difficult, as does age. That being said, I find that exercise and eating small well balanced, Protein rich meals does wonders to revv that metabolism back up. As far as the obese people being unnattractive? I don't know. I know both beautiful and unnattractive obese peopl (as well as thin). Nathalie is right on when she mentions confidence and attitude playing a major role. I was not feeling confident or attractive 35 pounds ago, but now I feel really good. I keep reminding my husband that I am hot stuff! I am far from a model of a healthy, fit body at 230+pounds but I feel good and that reflects in my physical appearance. -
I am a definite and really looking forward to it. I think my friend Liz will be coming as well as she was banded before me in September but I think lurks on this site... ::shout out to Liz to join in the conversation:::: Really looking forward to it especially since I will be transitioned to mushies by then and may be able to eat something...woohoo.

HMO Blue Value paid for my surgery as I was over BMI of 35 and had Hypertension. They also pay for a BMI over 40. I did have a $500 deducitble that I paid for the hospital stay. Not too shabby...

I was about 2.5wks post op...definitely no pressure on tummy.
