I am 38 have two daughters ages 17 and 14. I have been obese since I was 14. Due to hypertension, my daughter, Elizabeth, was born at 2lbs. 5oz. My second daughter, Sarah was born at 5lbs. 1oz. Then in April 2005 I drove to the hospital one day to find that I had a pulmonary embolism that was 4cm along with many others. All of this has led to an uphill slide to over three hundred pounds.
Last year when I joined in January 2009 I wanted to find out more about surgery and found a wonderful doctor that would accept me as a high risk patient. However, out of pocket expenses prevented me from starting the journey then. In November when it was time to re-enroll in health insurance at work, I found out this year they offered a healthcare spending card with balance up front.
So here I am. On January 6, I had my first visit in a year with Dr. Ganta. I was so afraid that he would say no this time with even more weight gained in the past year. I was proud to see that only went up about 10 pounds though. December is always a rough time for me. I love holidays and the food that comes with them. When I walked into his office again I weighed 304 pounds. On that day, I started on the path of becoming heathier. My goal is 150 pounds. He explained that possibly could get down to 172. Even that looks good to me from where I am at. However, ultimately I want to be 150 pounds when my oldest graduates from high school next year. I am going to work very hard to achieve that goal.
